I thought I would have a look around the Internet today to try and find some interesting stories with an emphasis on Quilting, whether it be around teaching people how to Quilt (my great passion), funny stories or quilts & quilting to raise money for charity.
For instance, I found this in The Star Bulletin in Honolulu - Chris Piper finds that quilting helps ease life's stresses and used it to relieve frustrations while serving in Iraq. Scraps of cloth and leftover bits of thread are all Chris Piper needs to create a masterpiece. Her friends tease her, giving bags full of scraps for her birthday. "They think it is funny, but I've made full quilts from those scraps."
Chris was the featured quilter at "Kaleidoscope of Quilts," the Hawaii Quilt Guild's annual show, back in May at the Linekona Academy Art Center.
Oh & by the way, if you live or are on holiday near Gainesville, Florida - did you know that The Florida Museum of Natural History and the Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild will co-host “Quilting Natural Florida” until Sept. 4 at the Florida Museum. The exhibition features contemporary quilts with an emphasis on the plants, animals and environments of natural Florida. Cameras and Camcorders are allowed for personal use.
