I was invited to be a part of a Hacker Camp called SHA2017 which happens only every 4 years in Holland. I was invited to be a part of the Belgium Embassy / Hardware Hacking area by Mitch Altman.  I met Mitch in his trip to Beijing setting up the iCenter hacker space at Tsinghua University and we got a fashion tech ardruino class going.

Mitch invited me to come and teach about etextiles and do workshops with the #LEDRibbon. He said that I should branch out into the maker scène. Indeed, it was the best experience ever and I met a community of people really open and highly intelligent! I could talk to anyone about technology.

The thing I also really enjoyed is how very experienced engineers also took the time in their day to come to my workshop to pimp their tshirt, and also see what I was doing and offer more advice, help, and teach me. I got real knowledge and I got solid foundation in some key areas such as PCB design.

I can't say the camping part was successful, as I got hypothermia on the first day and suffered from a terrible cold for the full 5 days, but the knowledge and exchange with people was with the suffering.

Everywhere I went people I met enjoyed my perspective on security, fashion, and technology. We brainstormed about how to create encrypted jewelry, secure communications, and my most recent topic: hacking cars.

on the flash talks my friend encouraged me to get up on stage and give a speech about fashion tech.

You can watch my flas talk here but bear in mind it was on a camping and I was really sick! FAs Forward the video to -13:45 sec Watch here.

Several people on Facebook have been asking me if I am changing careers because I am being featured in more movies of late. "More" being the 4 that I have participated in small roles but secondary lead roles. I have also been in more videos and documentaries and TV commercials. The funny thing is with all of these, is that I just play myself on TV. Every role I have gotten is actually me and something that has happened or is happening in my life. So it is very easy to say the lines and call up the emotions. The answer would be, no I am not changing careers- I have a full time job being the CEO of 360Fashion Network and I don't have time to go on castings every day. But at the same time, I have been a fashion model my whole life until now, and if there is time and I can fit it in- it's a nice break from the pressure of raising a company. At the same time my goal has always been to make tech cool and to attract more women to a technology career. The modelling and acting keeps my feet on the ground and makes my life fun and glamour Lis. Now the main difference is that I'm making products with partners and brands, so I get to be my own model in the product photos or the video which is really for me the combination of what I stand for and want to promote, and what I love!  With all the Uber talk and women rising to important positions, I think there's nothing wrong with wearing many hats and doing many different things according to your skill set. Often times if I leave things into the hands of people I don't know, it's not done the way I want. So I put on the hat of producer, or model, or actor, and CEO. That's what really being CEO of a startup is in my book: it's the person who is willing to roll up their sleeves and dig the ditch if no one else can or is willing to do it. It's the person who is able to get the job done, and done well. It's the person who doesn't let the ship sink while watching the problems happen. It's the do whatever it takes to float and then, eventually to get that albatross into the sky to soar like an eagle. [...]

I organized the second 360Fashion & Tech Forum meet-up and it was a success. We showcased the Azreal YM smart glove and we talked about the state of fashion tech. I really enjoyed to see the designers speak openly about their design concept and the engineers answer highly complex technical questions from our sophisticated audience.

Berlin, Germany - PRESS: Page-Online.de have given everyone a sneak peek at our upcoming launch with ROMASTER: The Qi Suit made with the 360Fash Tech "Gesture" Kit.  The Qi Suit was a particularly challenging creation because of the obstacles we needed to overcome in order to create this incredibly tailored suit by Master Li - the Golden Scissors award winning tailor who recently died, with my work with him as his last great living legacy on this earth. Although I could not speak a single word with Master Li, we had another way to communicate that transcended language: we had the language of innovation.  The main obstacle to this project was TIME. We only had 45 Days to complete this project and then launch it at Intel Developer Conference in Shenzhen May 13th, 2016. The second most prominent obstacle was CULTURE & LANGUAGE. The third most difficult obstacle was TECHNOLOGY. TIME With only 45 days to complete the project for the Intel Developer Conference 2016, we worked 45 days straight with very long hours up to 2:00AM the next day. We had to figure out the parts, order the parts, test the parts, and then build the LED patterns. Lack of sleep is not a good thing for a team because it leads to short tempers and not clear thinking. Some days we just had to roll up our sleeves and drink a lot of black tea. CULTURE & LANGUAGE With the whole team of 10 people speaking Chinese, I found myself challenged with only translation to help me explain and communicate how to execute the project. We had to revert to a lot of diagrams, and twice I had to pull in my friends who just for their kindness came in and solved the problems late at night. Also in using online project management software, the fashion team had no VPN's and were not able to follow the project in a "modern" way. The engineering team often did not get the whole specifications translated and thus we had mistakes that we had to re-do and would lose time. In these situations it is extremely important to be professional and to put your nose to the grindstone and not give up. To be flexible and willing to give up something but also to go back and re-do, including things that may have been lost in translation. #NeverNeverNeverGiveUp TECHNOLOGY Currently there are a lot of LEDs out there and we had to make quick decisions on what type we were going to sew into the suit. We made several tests and in the end forgot about LED Strips because it would be prone to fail on the weakest points: the soldering joints at the end of the strips. Flexible LED boards that we cut were too hard and would be extremely uncomfortable for the wearer. The final test, and ultimate choice were the LEDs in shapes on boards. This allowed us to create a poetic pattern, but had big enough holes on the back for us to solder them together with insulated thread. Stay tuned for more of this epic story and the launch! [...]

Berlin, Germany - #FashionTechBerlin Was a great experience and I am really grateful to be included and have had the chance for Michal Starost to join us and showcase his #RoboticDress along with showcasing RFactory Motion Dress, and LIBET LED Bags. The exhibition was really beautifully put together by #Elektrocuture and Lisa Lang, and we met so many new talents through the exhibition. www.360fash.com

I also got to know new people in person, whom I had only met through twitter or seen online. One of those people was Muchetta from FashNerd.com and the other was Amanda Cosco from Electric Runway. Both outstanding women with a clear vision of the future.

Barcelona, Spain -- Mobile World Congress was a huge event for the technology industry--and now fashion thanks to Kim Arazi from N3 and 360Fashion Network. Off the plane I was so exhausted from the 18 hours of travel and then straight to work for getting the last items for the exhibition. Kim and I ran around the city looking for clear boxes to put all the great wearable tech inside to keep them secure and safe. We finally found them with white pebbles to make them look elegant.

Sometimes as leader you have to just roll up your sleeves and dig in to take the opportunity in the hand. It's exhausting when there's not enough time, budget, and manpower. Yet opportunity only knocks when you are ready to leap in and go to the next level. You can choose to stay where you are and wait for everything to be right--maybe that's just for the very well established and famous. For me, I'm still building brick by brick, territory by territory, millimeter by millimeter the 360Fashion Network to be the leading fashion and technology event producers in the world. To make our events strong we have to jump at the main opportunities. That means no sleep sometimes. That means pushing beyond human capacity. That takes super model strength.

I have to admit though that this trip I was pushed to the limits and beyond. To the point of hallucination and lack of sleep...yet it's bearing fruit.

Now if only LUFTHANSA WOULD FIND MY LUGGAGE! That's the only thing I have to say: LUFTHANSA SUCKS! Terrible service, terrible flight, and they cannot find my luggage. Lufthansa, you are no KLM, no DELTA, no VIRGIN ATLANTIC. You need to locate my luggage instead of saying "we have no information" and "we have no feedback from Barcelona and Frankfurt". I have very valuable things in my luggage that you cant replace. Step up your efforts LUFTHANSA!

Ever wonder what it is that I am doing in China all this time? Well, here's your chance to see it. CRI Radio followed me around during our 3D Festival rampup and you get to see me building the robotic dress, talking about fashion and tech, and executing the 3D Festival exhibition. It's pretty go-go-go and at the same time it's pretty much fun. It is certainly not easy, but in the world where we get to choose what we want to do, I am following my passion.

Its been an amazing start to the year: Started off in the presidential suite of an L.A. Hotel and an amazing road trip, over to Las Vegas for first time at CES. Showcased my robotic dress with Monster and Wearable World.

Last days in San Francisco with friends and meeting potential sponsors for my show.

Now I am back in China meeting big companies and fashion groups about the GSMA show in July.

Finally, tomorrow I have a big modeling job!

I fell across this photo of me from the 3rd Le Web and it shows how fast technology moves. Back then I was the lone fashion tech person in a sea of geeks. Now finally the moment has arrived and I am here with the fashion tech party just getting started!

Best Wishes,

A New Kind of Supermodel

In 2004 I launched my brand anina.net in an art exhibition together with the art posthume in Moliere's house in Paris. The exhibition was called "A new kind of supermodel" where I said through my exhibition, in the future it wouldn't be enough to just be a pretty face. That fashion models would need to be brands and use media and social media to promote fashion houses. They would need to be brand ambassadors, spokes persons. It has now come to pass.

The law of this world is: Evolve or be eliminated. Frogs are going. The rainforest is going. And so too must models evolve to stay competitive. This Kardashian debate of what is a fashion model, is the same as what is happening in fashion: Will the future of high-fashion be defined by high-design, or by high-technology?

In the same way models must become more than clothes hangers. They must become names. They must stand for something. They must have their "angle", their selling point and they must be smart and charismatic. They must command attention on social media as much as in a room. They must evolve or the industry will default to Kardashian style celebrity models. Name and status and connections, or "guanxi", have always gotten one in the door. Once in the door--its up to the individual what happens next.

Maybe middle eastern style is now "in" so Kendal Jenner has her moment on the stage. But can she change and adapt like the chameleon Linda Evangelista? Does she have the courage of Kate Moss? The lion heart of Naomi? Fashion changes so fast. Only true models can adapt to the trends. Those who cannot will fade away down the social media feed.

As you may know, when I started 360Fashion Network, PBS television created a feature film about me. Bob Cringely followed me thru fashion week and it was one of the top viewed shows on PBS.

I had the great pleasure to be filmed again and share my 8 year experience of being an entrepreneur, again with Bob Cringely, this last month at Wearable World Labs in San Francisco.

It's great when you can look back and by telling your story share your advice with others and review your own accomplishments.

Many thanks to Dave Martinez assistant for snapping some photos.

I recently attended the 50th birthday party of a fashion tech legend, Scott Jordan who makes Scottevest. I wore, upon request, the laser dresses created for the GSMA - 360Fashion & Tech Runway Show.

It was a big hit with my friend Robert Scoble taking very beautiful photos of me. Many women said they would love to wear them. The lasers made it look like atoms were flying around your skirt.

The dresses were also on display at the 3D Festival during Beijing Design Week. They were sponsored by Polish tech company Softax.

At the Embassy of Poland Event showing the GSMA - 360Fashion & Tech Runway Show I was interviewed by BTV for ChaoYang News about wearable technology and fashion. I said that we need to move wearable technology out of the sportswear industry and into high fashion. We showcased the misfit shine jewelry and dress created with Michal Starost. The sports tracking jewelry is suitable for women who love fashion, and one of the Misfit shines can be "plugged in" to the dress or jewelry in order to keep tracking, but doesn't have to look like a sportswear device.
