Two Weeks Left to Comment on Proposed Tip-Pooling Rule Change

The public comment period is quickly dwindling down on the proposed Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) rule change that would allow employers to pool tips given to their wait staff, with one qualification being that the wait staff are paid at least minimum wage. Comments must be received on or before January 4, 2018. The proposal is posted on the Federal Register website.

Restaurant Spending Up 6.3 Percent over Thanksgiving, Black Friday

Payments technology company First Data says consumers spent 6.3 percent more in restaurants on Thanksgiving and Black Friday this year than they did last year as overall spending surged 11.9 percent. Many restaurants were closed or had shorter hours for the holiday.

TGI Fridays Expands Amazon Relationship with New Alexa Skill

Expanding on its presence in the Amazon Marketplace, Dallas-based TGI Fridays has designed and developed an Alexa skill (i.e. Alexa function) that allows users, using just their voice, to quickly make reservations, place an order to go, and pay their bill. The company announced yesterday that the new skill is available at a limited number of Fridays restaurants and will be available across America by the New Year.

Auto Museum Moves to Save McDonald's Historic Site

​The McDonald's museum in Des Plaines, Illinois, has faced repeated flooding problems and been closed for 10 years, but people were nevertheless disappointed to read in the news last week that the company planned to demolish it next month. The museum is on the site of the first McDonald's built by Ray Kroc after he franchised the brand from brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, the original owners of McDonald's.
