Raising Awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND / ALS)

Thu, 25 Jan 2018 02:01:04 +0000

When a doctor first suggested that my mother probably had Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), I told him to remove it from the list. But life doesn't work like that. And MND (ALS) is a cruel, progressive, terminal neurological disease that can strike anyone. MND has no cure or treatment, and it kills over 50 % within 2 years of diagnosis. My goal is to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (ALS) to make others understand why donating to MND/ALS associations is important.

How Personal Can My Professional Blog Be?

Fri, 30 Jun 2017 08:53:06 +0000

Should educational bloggers stick to blogging about educational content on their professional educator blogs? Or is it okay to include the occasional random post that shares your personal interests and passions? As a dilemma I've faced myself on this blog I thought others might find my thoughts helpful. Would love to know your thoughts on the topic!

Trials and Tribulations of Digitizing a Publication From 1929

Wed, 05 Apr 2017 12:56:48 +0000

What is the best way to digitize an old publication so that others can easily read? It isn't as simple as it sounds! If the text is small you need to include the ability for readers to easily zoom to enlarge text and photos. This post compares sharing using Flickr Slideshows, photos uploaded to my blog and a shared Google Album using the "The Western Mail" Centenary Number publication. It’s packed full of content that could be used with students and will be helpful for those interested in history.

Digitizing My Family History

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 10:10:14 +0000

I was left 100's of old family photos and documents when my grandfather died aged 98. Some date back to the late 1800's and early 1920's. With no one left to remember all their stories I've been digitizing the photos and documents, writing their stories to share with future generations. I've included some of my favorite photos and old documents in this post, explained the process I've been using to document my family history and linked to where I'm storing digital copies.

Dealing with Change

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 13:19:14 +0000

We each respond differently to change! While we can't control how others will respond to being asked to change we can control how we react to their responses. This is my tips that have helped me over the year when implementing change.

A Glimpse into My Work Life!

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 23:43:56 +0000

People I meet in person often find what I do unusual because I'm a remote worker who works very flexible hours. So I thought sharing a glimpse of my work life would provide an insight into what life is like as a remote worker and the tools I use to connect with my work colleagues.
