Children Fleeing Tanks

Sun, 17 Aug 2008 16:01:13 PST

The commentators on the news fill my ears with facts and speculations. Who fired first? Who fired best? What are the body counts? Which dignitary is en route? What speeches are being made? What talks are in session? Is the asset strategic? No matter who is in the right, and who is in the wrong, even assuming anyone is in the right or in the wrong, children flee tanks. Tanks travel a lot faster than children do. Tanks roll over whatever is in their path. A precision bomb need only be slightly imprecise to obliterate a row of flats. A child sees a plane in mid-air, and turns, and points, and smiles. A plane at war rains shrapnel upon children. A mushroom cloud rising from a civilian city takes children holding pets. Children and other non-combatants don't need to know the reason for war. They just need for people to figure out ways to resolve crises without war. This is not a soundscape of sophisticated theories or political wisdom. This is a sound-collage that believes that children are in the right, and the way that war afflicts children is wrong.

Tiger by the Tail

Sun, 29 Apr 2007 20:19:35 PST

My girl, upon listening to this, said "What are you, Moby now?" But she liked it. I used a drum hit from Mc Jack's "Naked" loops (originally downloaded as a remixfight) but the drum loop in question is no longer on CCmixter, so, with his permission, I credited the song's vox and supplied this little update to clarify what's going on here.

One Endless Unity

Wed, 07 Jun 2006 22:05:52 PST

The piece "Preservation" from my album "Subtle Precautions" on www.disfish.com provides much of the melody here. "Preservation" is a collaboration with jazzman LeftOver Brass, whose wonderful MIDI jazz may be explored at: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=525254. I think that B Trasht's upload of 12 seconds of beats lives entirely up to its advertisement to the effect that it may be used universally (and, indeed, it can be used in one endless unity, indivisible). Thanks also to Alchemist Jack, whom I frequently sample in drafts, but do not use nearly often enough in things I share with others. The spoken word, text and vox, were edited out on revision.
