Hillary Wins Round One for 09/28/2016

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 00:00:00 -0700

I hate to say it, because I truly believe the election of Donald Trump is profoundly important for the future of the country, but Clinton cleaned his clock in the Great Debate.

She attacked. He defended.

Now, how much sense does that make?

Why Trump Should Start Governing Now for 09/21/2016

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Two incidents last week demonstrate that the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, run by House Speaker Paul Ryan, is as dysfunctional and impotent a force to hold the Obama administration accountable for anything — including high crimes and misdemeanors — as it ever was under Ryan's predecessor John Boehner.

—Bryan Pagliano, the former State Department computer specialist tasked with setting up Hillary Clinton's server, was subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions about the national security scandal that continues to haunt the former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee. Pagliano refused to answer the subpoena. He just ignored it. That's a textbook example of contempt of Congress. How did the Republican House respond to this flagrant denigration and dismissal of the power of Congress? Did they order federal marshals to arrest Pagliano? Is he currently behind bars until he agrees to appear before the committee? No. Instead, Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and a guy doing the bidding of Ryan and the GOP establishment, huffed and puffed, saying Pagliano was "thumbing his nose at Congress," and promised there would be "consequences." A week later, there have been no discernible consequences, and insiders say they don't expect any.

—Also last week, Paul Ryan himself engineered an agreement by the Republican majority to avoid impeaching IRS Commissioner John Koskinen for his clear, unambiguous direction of the agency's illegal political targeting and official abuse of tea-party groups and others viewed as adversarial to the Obama administration. This was the most heinous misuse of the IRS for political purposes ever admitted by the agency. Koskinen had previously obstructed any further investigation of the facts by House committees.

Why Obama Could Never Allow Hillary to be Indicted for 09/14/2016

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 00:00:00 -0700

As the facts about Hillary Clinton's tenure as secretary of state become clearer every day, the question every American should ask themselves is whether she got away with a very significant and heinous crime for the following reasons:

—She was a Democrat and was widely seen by the Democratic Party as the likely successor to Barack Obama.

—She was part of the Democratic Party and Washington establishment, and they seldom turn on their own.

Who's Worse -- Kaepernick or NFL? for 09/07/2016

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Everyone is up in arms over San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's decision not to stand during the playing of the national anthem before games.

I understand the feeling.

Here's an extremely wealthy and spoiled black athlete, raised by wonderful adoptive white parents, adored by fans of all races across the country, living in a nation presided over by a black president protesting what a rotten, unjust, racially stratified nation the United States of America is.

Let's Take a Look at the 'Alt Left' for 08/31/2016

Wed, 31 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Before Hillary Clinton offered up her latest paranoid rant on the "Alt Right," I received a number of calls from the media inquiring about my thoughts on the subject.

I consider myself a pretty informed person when it comes to politics, but, before this flurry of press calls, I had honestly never heard the term. Maybe I wasn't invited to the secret club.

I discouraged these interviews by explaining ahead of time that I was unfamiliar with the label and uncomfortable and suspicious of contrived political classifications generally.

This Race Ain't Over, Folks for 08/24/2016

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0700

The public perception of where the 2016 presidential race stands has been affected much more by Big Media wishful thinking than the actual preferences of the American people.

That is the takeaway of the most recent L.A. Times/USC poll — one that does daily tracking with a carefully selected group of about 3,000 U.S. citizens on the basis of demographics that represent the national voting pool.

For the Big Media, the race is over. Hillary is going to win in a historic landslide that may even result in a change of control of the Congress.

Who's Truly Inciting Assassination? for 08/17/2016

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Does anyone really think Donald Trump incited violence against Hillary Clinton?

Let's agree that he made an unfortunate, off the cuff comment.

He said that if a future President Hillary Clinton hypothetically stacked the U.S. Supreme to ensure the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was neutered in its protection of an individual's right to bear arms that there would be no going back — Americans would lose their fundamental freedoms.

When Discrimination Becomes Tyranny for 08/10/2016

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Entrepreneur Nate Snell is hiring in Portland, Oregon.

You might think that would be good news in a country with 45 million working-age citizens completely out of the workforce.

But not so fast.

The Democrats' Hateful, Anti-Life Convention for 08/03/2016

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Whoops! They "forgot" American flags.

Next thing you know, flags appear inside the Democratic Party convention and those atop the Philadelphia City Hall disappear.

There was a moment of silence for police officers around the country who have been assassinated following overheated, Black Lives Matter rhetoric.

If Black Lives Matter, Vote Republican for 07/27/2016

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 00:00:00 -0700

If black lives matter — and they surely do — the logical, rational, historical and practical course of action in 2016 is to vote Republican.

That may seem puzzling and counterintuitive, since Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton seem so closely aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement that blames police for systematically targeting minorities for abuse, discrimination and even murder.

But is there more to the story?

Pence Has Something to Prove for 07/20/2016

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Donald Trump has repeatedly pledged as president to fight for religious liberty in the face of attacks from government, judges, a contemptuous media and increasingly radical secular cultural institutions.

I am still hoping he's serious about that.

But the selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate does not give me a great deal of confidence.

Police Shootings? No Justice at Justice for 07/13/2016

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 00:00:00 -0700

The back-to-back fatal police shootings last week of two black men, both caught on video, are understandably disturbing.

Before the retributive sniper attacks on police officers in Dallas, they were among the most talk-about stories across the nation.

What we see with our own eyes and what we hear, as well as the reports by eyewitnesses, of these incidents in Baton Rouge and outside St. Paul, Minnesota, should be enough to make any American's skin crawl.

How War Has Changed Since 1776 for 07/06/2016

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Imagine George Washington at Valley Forge. His men are starving, they're barefoot in the snow, some are deserting — and facing firing squads as a result.

It looks like all may be lost.

What does Washington do?

Meet Dartmouth Prof Mugged by Reality for 06/29/2016

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Regular readers of this column will not be surprised to learn that I was once a radical leftist, a revolutionary, supporter of the Black Panthers, a commie.

But by 25, I had begun to see the light. First, I transitioned briefly to liberalism, then, in 1981 I was Reaganized.

It did not happen quickly enough for me to bring myself to vote for him in November 1980. I actually voted a second time for Jimmy Carter, though I recognized he was a disaster long before while I waited endlessly in gas lines.

Hillary Question: Should Sex-Selection Abortion be Legal? for 06/22/2016

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 00:00:00 -0700

At its core, so-called "progressive" ideology is radical social engineering in the form of rebellion against Judeo-Christian morality.

From the perspective of someone who was immersed in left-wing ideas as a young man, I can tell you that is the only consistent thread you will find in this perverse and dangerous creed.

Let me give you an example of the way it works.

All Americans Have Something in Common Today for 06/15/2016

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Like all Americans, I watched the reporting on the slaughter in Orlando filled with revulsion, anger and frustration.

While grieving with the families of those killed in this horror and identifying with the pain and suffering of those wounded in the worst shooting attack by a single person in American history, a thought occurred to me.

America is more divided today than at any time since the Civil War. Citizens have less tolerance for one another's views than during the worst they did in the most polarized times of the 1960s. We've been intentionally played against each other too long. We've been broken up into "interest groups" so effectively by politicians looking out for their own interests that we've actually begun seeing each other that way.

To Be an American Muslim... for 06/08/2016

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 00:00:00 -0700

I have sympathy for Muslim citizens of the U.S. concerned about the heightened tensions the spread of terrorism in America and abroad has caused.

I am concerned, too — and I am not a Muslim,

I am, however, an Arab-American Christian — a second-generation Syrian, for that matter.

Transsexualism: A Legal, Cultural Pandora's Box for 06/01/2016

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 00:00:00 -0700

I don't believe most Americans have any idea what kind of a legal and cultural Pandora's box has been opened by the transsexual activists — and I include Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton among them.

I've talked to lifelong Democrats about this — people who voted twice for Obama as president — and not one supports the idea of encouraging men who feel like a woman using women's restrooms. Neither have I found any that think it's a good idea to allow boys who say they identify more with the female sex to use girls' restrooms and locker rooms in public schools.

I don't suggest there are none. I only point this out because most people, including Democrat voters, think it's insane.

The Moral Chaos Theory in Practice for 05/25/2016

Wed, 25 May 2016 00:00:00 -0700

Do you know what "chaos theory" is?

It was first postulated in the 1960s by Edward Lorenz, a mathematician and meteorologist who sought to predict weather patterns through math formulas based on minor changes, assuming those minor changes who result in tiny changes in outcome.

What he found, however, was the opposite. Complex systems, like weather, respond chaotically and unpredictably to even the smallest changes in conditions.

Olympics Terror? It's Happened Before for 05/18/2016

Wed, 18 May 2016 00:00:00 -0700

As Rio de Janeiro prepares to host the 2016 Summer Olympics in August, intelligence agencies around the world, including Brazil's, are warning about the high threat of Islamic terrorist attacks at the Games.

As an old-timer, reading these reports, I was struck by the realization that most people alive today have no recollection of what happened at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

To set the scene, 1972 was only 27 years after the end of World War II. The previous Olympic Games hosted by Germany in 1936 was under the watch of Adolf Hitler. That was where Jesse Owens stole the show.
