A Cape Coral pilot is in jail in a middle eastern country that says he can't go free unless he pays nearly $45,000. Steven Bral, a pilot from Cape Coral, Florida, has been jailed in Oman.

The Cape Coral Police Department is in need of new volunteers for administrative positions in the lobby of the Police Department as well as at City Hall. Police Volunteers assist citizens every day at their stations located in the Police Department lobby at 1100 Cultural Park Blvd., as well as in the lobby of City Hall next to the City Clerk at 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The Police Department location staffs volunteers at the reception desk, and is also in need of volunteers to staff the fingerprint station.

Proposed city purchase of old golf course acreage: Cape-County meeting on land buy unlikely

The city of Cape Coral may have to wait until it actually purchases the old golf course acreage before it can discuss funding help from the county. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners this week decided that a meeting regarding the 175-acre site isn't going to happen yet since 1) the proposed $12 million land buy doesn't qualify for preservation funding and 2) while city staff has brought forward a $13.5 million improvement proposal for a park, there is no concrete plan for the site's use "It doesn't appear the board is ready to have a joint meeting on the golf course.

City to shut off water in some Del Prado area neighborhoods on March 10

A Cape Coral man has been charged with negligent vehicular homicide in connection with a Thanksgiving day crash that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman. Kenneth Graves, 37, "was found to be at-fault for the traffic crash, and probable cause was established that found he had operated a vehicle in a reckless manner" in connection with the three-vehicle crash in which Kennya Yolibeth Gonzalez Ojeda was critically injured, the Cape Coral Police Department stated in a release issued Wednesday.

The 94th Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair had another great 11 days, with the final weekend bringing the best weather and the biggest crowds throughout the day and night. Friday's Moonlight Madness once again packed people in, as did Saturday and Sunday, which featured Florida Agriculture & Horticulture Day on Saturday and a Last Blast Sunday special, with $20 wristbands for rides until closing at 10 p.m. Although the numbers were not official as of Monday morning, Fran Krone, fair manager, expected the fair to at least reach last year's record number of 109,000.
