Death of Mali President's Receptionist Sparks Domestic Violence Talk

The suspected murder of a Malian government employee at the hands of her husband is sparking a dialogue about domestic violence in the West African country. On December 29, police found the body of Fanta Sekou Fofana, a 27-year-old receptionist in the office of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and the daughter of a presidential adviser.

Results from 1,797 soil geochemical samples designed to test for gold mineralization along gold-bearing Banket conglomerate stratigraphy have identified two zones, each in excess of 1 km strike length and up to 240m wide, of significant gold anomalism. These zones are completely untested by drilling.

Ahead of the second meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the Bamako Convention billed to take place in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire between January 28 and 30, 2018, Mr. Leslie Adogame, Executive Director, Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development , has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, ratify and implement the Bamako Convention now. According to Adogame, "It is most worrisome that Nigeria which should play a lead role on the continent has inadvertently lagged behind 29 other countries in Africa.
