Comment on Old year bad, new year good by Jeromai

I got nothing about MMOs, but a personal little trick that works well for me re: Inbox Zero. After I’ve cleared or skimmed enough of the backlog to feel reasonably confident that nothing time critical is left in there, I just shove the whole chunk into a folder labeled along the lines, “Not Yet Sorted” or “To Sort Through.” Then I start fresh at a faux “Inbox Zero”, which ensures the backlog doesn’t keep growing, and go through the leftover folder a couple emails a day. Either it empties and I reach true inbox zero, or it hits a point where everything left in there is better off archived, never to be seen again unless retrieval via search is needed.

Damn, I totally biffed responding here. Kinrany wrote: Have you played Space Station 13? I did a few years ago. I'm sure it's crazier now. It was a fun game but not quite an MMO, IMNSHO. But pretty fun. Wilhelm Arcturus wrote: What “serious” topics of the day would you even want to grapple with? [...] Is there anything new under the sun? Yeah, I guess there's a general malaise about MMOs in particular, although gaming in general just seems to be drifting along. As for VR... I don't see it being a big thing. We'll see if AR even makes a splash at all, I guess.

Happy Birthday! What "serious" topics of the day would you even want to grapple with? Lockboxes? The trajectory of VR in gaming? The current state of Steam for the indie dev? Is there anything new under the sun?

Have you played Space Station 13? (Google says it haven't been mentioned on this blog)

It all depends. I think its easier to explain to others that you are busy raiding in Western countries, over here whenever I say that I'm "busy doing stuff with my guild" and that i "feel responsible for those people as Guild Leader" best I get is a chuckle of pitty. It's sad really since the same people that mock "mmo socializers" then spend hours chatting with their "facebook friends" that they never meet in real life.

I wonder if there’s a historical/influential connection between current LARP discussions and culture of consent (both nordic as well as in other larp communities) and the designs and implementations of early MUDS, MUSHES, and the like? I’d hypothesize that perhaps there was a lot of overlap in terms of people playing/participating in both? Curious…

Comment on Watch a bunch of Gaming Legends later today! by VirtualWorldEntertainment

Just wondering if Greg Corson (A-Maze-Ing, Virtual World Entertainment INC, NEC, Sony) could comment on the guy in Michigan who claims to have built the simulators in Chicago? On WIKI he later claims to have purchased the Delaware Virtual World Entertainment LLC when Disney in the State of Illinois closed it down and did not transfer any assets (common with an INC). We worship the real hero that developed innovation. It is a shame if that title was hijacked.

Comment on Overflow stats, or what to do about Accuracy by Psychochild

Dacheng wrote: What did you think of Blizzard’s ‘reforging’ solution, during WoD? I liked it. FFXIV has something a bit like this with the Relic/Anima weapons. You can forge your weapon to have the secondary stats you prefer, although there are generally some preferred configuration. I think it makes some sense. Give gear out that has crafted stats, but then there's extra gameplay for people who want to optimize to the excessive degree. As a player, I think I'd find it more annoying that I had to get the right drop then do extra to make it actually good.
