You've been gone too long

2015-02-05T21:43:50.652+13:00

I stopped blogging nearly 4 years ago amid fears that photos of the kids on the blog would bring unsavoury types to the door. Much better to trust Facebook I thought where I get to choose my "friends". I think I'll keep the photos to Facebook for the grandparents and friends a abroad. If I have any thoughts worth sharing I'll share them here. I'm not a sound bite, tweeting kind of girl as it happens. I won't use the iPad next time though - turns out correcting typos is a bit of nightmare.

Ian took Ethan off for a wonderful boys camp last weekend. I can't really do better than direct you to one of the other father's blogs. Click here

December - Christmas preparations begin!

2011-12-02T20:46:38.367+13:00

We know Christmas is almost upon us when the Christmas t-shirts and tree decorations arrive from Oz. Thanks Mim!

Ethan turns 6

2011-11-13T21:55:50.248+13:00

Ethan seems to have found a whole different swagger and a lot of attitude since turning 6. As usual he was spoiled by all the relies with heaps of presents - a whole new wardrobe from Oz - rugby gear and skateboarding stuff - and ltos of money to spend. He had a great party camping with friends in the back garden and watching Star Wars on an outdoor screen. They also had a bonfire and fireworks. For all his swagger though he is still my little safety conscious man. He watched the bonfire at the bottom of the garden from the deck steps - and decided the best viewing point for the fireworks was his bedroom!

We took the kids for a walk along the Wynyard Quarter in Auckland last week. The area has been developed pretty well as part of the worldcup stuff. The playground is clever with maritime themes. Plane-spotting with DanDan.

GO THE ALL BLACKS!

2011-10-23T20:06:51.763+13:00

After much procrastination over viewing options for the big match we have plumped for watching it at home with the kids, a big bowl of crisps and ginger beer. Bring it on!

Rugby World Cup

2011-09-09T21:34:45.049+12:00

We had an awesome opening ceremony for the world cup at Ethan's primary school. Check out the video here

Ethan is in a green top with black sleeves.

Immy and Daniel were in their Ireland shirts.

Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand

2011-08-27T20:34:10.530+12:00

I completed my law exams back in February and got the results in April but it was only yesterday when I was finally admitted to the Bar here as a barister and solicitor. I get to be both here as the professions are fused. It takes a lot of paperwork and references to prove that you are a "fit and proper person" to be admitted.

My biggest fan.

We then had a lovely lunch with my work colleagues and rounded off the evening with the Cambridge Society of Auckland Annual Dinner. WOuldn't you know it though - Ian knew more people at that event than I did! I was surprised how much I enjoyed hanging out with Cambridge folk again. Quite a special shared experience.

Room 2 Publication

2011-08-25T21:01:12.704+12:00

Every week Ethan writes a story for publication and produces a little booklet. Today's made my day.

I particularly like the picture on the front page where Dad and Ethan are sitting at the table waiting for mum to cook their dinner!

Home again

2011-08-06T15:16:35.846+12:00

The homeward trip was very eventful. We had an overnight stop at Singapore - lovely swim, dinner then tried to sleep. We had a very comfortable family room and eventually all fell asleep - just after first wake up call. I extended the room but not the wake up call and then we all fell asleep and woke up an hour before our flat was due to leave with our stuff strewn all over the room. We managed to sprint to the other end of the airport with the kids in tow in pyjamas pulling their little wheelie trollies. Not the relaxing start to the last leg thatwe had hoped for but we were very refreshed for the flight.

Moyagoney Road Formula One

2011-08-06T14:54:49.023+12:00

A wet Sunday afternoon and 7 kids to entertain. Fortunately Noel has sheds and garages full of stuff perfect for turning cardboard boxes into cars complete with steering wheels, exhaust pipes and speedometers. We set up a race track round the house and the kids tired themselves out for hours. Of course it wasn't long until the dads got involved too.

Fun on the farm

Ethan loved helping my cousins with the landscaping around mum's house. Cousin Andrew is in the digger. Ethan as you can see if directing operations.

Portglenone Forest

2011-08-06T14:38:13.629+12:00

Portglenone, the nearest village to where mum lives, boasts a very pretty forest. It runs alongside the River Bann. The river is busy with lots of water-skiing and wake-boarders. We took the Nana and Gramps for a walk and Ethan showed off his archery skilss with his home made bow and arrow courtesy of Noel.

Glenariff Forest Park

2011-08-06T14:31:10.249+12:00

I discovered some great parts of northern ireland that I hadn't been to before. Glenariff Forest Park was one. We went for a walk there on 12th July which was probably one of the busiest days to go anywhere in NI as it is a public holiday. We managed to avoid the marches and had a beautiful walk through the forest. The Mull of Kintyre in Scotland could be seen just across the water.

The big pile of mud

2011-08-05T20:04:57.774+12:00

A big feature at mum's house was the big pile of mud. Ethan was often to be found on top of the big pile of mud first thing in the morning. Gradually throughout our stay it was moved to the greenhouse and to mum's new veggie patches.

Immy the racer

2011-08-05T19:53:56.366+12:00

We had a great afternoon hanging out at Portstewart strand which has a fabulous playground. Both Immy and Ethan loved the racing cars but it was interesting watching their different personalities. Ethan was slow and steady and got faster on each of his 5 attempts. Immy on the other hand barely let Ian finish the "just press this pedal..." before she was off and overtaking some of the bigger kids. Granpa Price got the photos of ethan but here is little immy doing her circuits.

We had a lovely day at the Giant's Causeway on Friday. The weather was glorious. I even got sun-burnt! Very pink nose.
