Comment on Stairway to Keys by Mike Nice

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 10:23:05 +0000

Yes - the building is being renovated and the external stairway was added, possibly around an internal elevator shaft. It will be interesting to see how they use it when the building is in use.

Comment on Under the Main Street Bridge by Mike Nice

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 10:50:15 +0000

Yes - I like the way this one turned out. I've found it challenging to get good results under the bridge. But when the light is right, the bridge does add a very special effect.

Comment on Table Rock by Galley

Tue, 20 Jun 2017 11:35:49 +0000

When I moved to Greenville from North Dakota in 1989, I climbed to the top of Raven Cliff Falls. In hindsight it was a pretty reckless thing to do.

Comment on Transition by Mike Nice

Sat, 17 Jun 2017 18:11:12 +0000

Yes there's much work remaining, but they're almost half way through with the demolition. Then there's the rebuild process with the half a city block worth of new buildings!

Comment on Transition by William Kendall

Sat, 17 Jun 2017 17:40:36 +0000

That'll be quite a bit of work yet to do.

Comment on Berea: A Look Back by William Kendall

It certainly does evoke the past.

Comment on Greek Festival by Mike Nice

Sat, 20 May 2017 20:52:29 +0000

Yes it does attract a big crowd. The church makes use of every square foot of their property for the different stands or entertainment.

Comment on Greek Festival by William Kendall

Sat, 20 May 2017 18:32:51 +0000

I can imagine it attracts quite a crowd. There's a Greek festival here in the latter part of the summer.

I remember as a child going to the Cat Dive to eat those delicious hot dogs! I have a picture of it in my home that my Dad left to me after his death. He worked at Duke Power so he spent lots of times there!

I would certainly miss the tree lined streets as well.

Comment on Let’s Eat! Theme Day by Mike Nice

Tue, 02 May 2017 11:04:17 +0000

I had thought the phrase "Tupelo Honey" was just a clever, somewhat exotic phrase, and learned that there really is such a thing as Tupelo Honey, made from the blooms of Tupelo trees. I'm guessing that they may now just use local honey or something equivalent since they don't claim to offer real Tupelo Honey with the biscuit.

Comment on Let’s Eat! Theme Day by Lea

Mon, 01 May 2017 13:30:16 +0000

Short ribs plate looks really yummy! Since I live near Tupelo, MS, I am wondering where does the Tupelo Honey come from? Have a wonderful day!

The earlier and longer spring probably produces more pollen than your spring - it affects some people, but fortunately I am not bothered by the pollen.

Comment on GREENville’s Main Street by William Kendall

Fri, 28 Apr 2017 16:36:50 +0000

Your spring is quite far ahead of ours!

Comment on Turtle Crossing by Mike Nice

Wed, 12 Apr 2017 23:52:44 +0000

The tail does give it the Snapper look. I gave this guy plenty of room so that I wouldn't have to discover for sure the hard way!

Comment on Turtle Crossing by William Kendall

Wed, 12 Apr 2017 20:35:18 +0000

Snapper by the look of that tail.

Comment on Swamp Rabbit Arrives by Mike Nice

Wed, 12 Apr 2017 02:29:41 +0000

It doesn't show very clearly, but the rabbit's front paw is attached to the base, which is also bolted down. The sculpture is smaller than it appears in the picture; it's only about 12 to 16 inches long.

Comment on Swamp Rabbit Arrives by William Kendall

Tue, 11 Apr 2017 20:00:18 +0000

The artist must have done a lot of figuring out on how to balance this one! I'm impressed.

Comment on After the Storm by Mike Nice

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 10:34:41 +0000

Yes, I'm really glad the city opened up access to the falls. Before the park was built, the falls were hidden under a 4-lane bridge.

Comment on Maple Seed Helicopters by Mike Nice

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 02:38:18 +0000

Yes, it was taken over the weekend. It must be that this tree was delayed by the area where it is planted.

Comment on Maple Seed Helicopters by Galley

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 01:23:00 +0000

Is this a recent photo? The red maple in my backyard looked exactly like that in a photo I took on Feb. 19th.

Comment on Christ Church Restoration by Mike Nice

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 00:50:19 +0000

Yes, it looks like a huge project. I'm amazed that the scaffolding structure can be placed around the steeple in that manner - either the steeple is structurally very strong internally, or the scaffolding skeleton surrounding the steeple is very rugged.

Comment on Christ Church Restoration by William Kendall

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 16:06:35 +0000

Cool story - I hope they do add a horse again, perhaps they even will be able to find the original horse. I think they have plenty of space out front for it.

Comment on Willy Taco by JaneL

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 15:45:55 +0000

I'm pretty sure it was the Feed and Seed. When McCallister opened, it was a high point to go there a few times a year from Spartanburg, and being horse-mad, I loved seeing the horse out front of the Feed and Seed.
