The introduction of tolls along the Algarve’s only motorway, the A22 has had the side effect of generating more traffic on the EN125, but after little over one month since the charges came into place, many businesses have not seen the increased trade they were hoping for while congestion and danger have returned.

Vihno do Douro and Port are both produced in the Douro wine region. This region is centered around the Douro river(image) in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region. It is sometimes referred to as the Alto Douro (upper Douro), as it is located quite a way upstream from Porto.

 

Port is well known and drunk throughout the world, there is a whole lot of interesting facts about Port that will come in a future article.

 

Vihno do Douro is a table wine from the Douro wine region. Originally these wines were bitter, but the English started to add Aguardente to the wine to help them survive the long voyage from Portugal to England. The tast of the wine was of course changed, which was the reason for its success. In the 17th century it was already widely exported. Today, Douro wines are very good wines, similar to port wine. Barca Velha is considered to be the best Portuguese wine and one of the best wines in the whole .....

Brits back in force last October

During the month of October 2011 more than 470,000 British tourists stayed in hotels in the Algarve; more than three times as many than the next largest group of foreign visitors that month, the Germans.

That month, just under 350,000 Brits flew into the Algarve’s Faro Airport. A total of 348,248 British citizens were registered as having arrived at the airport in October 2011, up 9.8 percent in relation to figures from the same month in 2010.
