I've just discovered Mr. Bageant. Thanks to CPN and Charlotteville radio for keeping this interview accessible. Joe would have to include the internet as well as TV in the modern American hologram. From Hedgesville, WV

Enjoyed the warts-and-all tour of Winchester. On a visit there years by, we stopped at the Visitors Center and asked about the town's connection to Patsy Cline. The lady apologized that Patsy had an upbringing that was "a little rough." She ought to have said that Patsy was unqualifiedly the best American pop/country singer ever to grace the continent. Deer Hunting With Jesus was one of the most insightful and best-written social commentary I've ever read. --George Flynn Georgetown TX

I've read Joe's book. I was expecting more from him. It wasn't what I expected but nevertheless it made for a decent read I suppose.

Coy Barefoot, can you contact me re a possible radio interview with you about my ideas on Global Warming and Polar Cities? Thanks. danbloom AT gmail will do. Thursday, July 5, 2007 11:55 pm It is now really 55 minutes past the 11th hour, and global warming is a major, major problem. There are many ways to deal with the issue, including ignoring it entirely. Movies like "An Inconvenient Truth" and "The 11th Hour" produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio on the state of the natural environment, are important. Thinking about POLAR CITIES in the future, to house some 200 million survivors of climate change in the year 2500 0r 3000, say, might also be important. See info here: "It really is getting later earlier and earlier." Who said that? "Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity ... We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future

I bought and read Joe's book. It's very well written and insightful - a consequence of the "insightful" part is that it is depressing. This is no bash on Mr. Bageant at all- au conraire - he nails the human condition. Joe Bageant speaks truth - we must deal with it. I will add, he speaks truth in a fine style that seduces one to read his writings with passion! Go Joe! Thanks for saying what it is from you honest Buddha eye.

I just listened to the podcast with Joe Bageant. I have been reading his web site for two years and he is the most insightful, clear, cogent, writer today in my opinion. Thanks for the podcast and thanks to Joe Bageant that the art of journalism still exists in America.
