odh, I truly hope you read this.

I am sorry if my post about dotheads offended you. As I tried to make clear, that was not my intention and I don't condone that language. I tried also to make clear that I made those comments in my youth when I was immature and regret those statements deeply.

The one thing we can never do is go back and make right what we've done wrong. If I could I would.

I make no excuses for what I said in the past and accept any anger you have towards me for making those statements.

All I ask is that you accept my apology for past discretions and not to hold a grudge. What I did was wrong and I sincerely apologize.

As grown men I would hope that honesty and recognition on my part is enough for both of us to come to a common ground.

I hold no ill will towards you.

AMG - You know what will set the world right on it...

AMG -

You know what will set the world right on it's axis again? Not arguing with Tom and AMG on the internet. These arguments are examples of internet addiction, plain and simple.

Being that I'm Indian and of Muslim origin, I don't exactly appreciate the use of the slur "dothead". Muslims don't wear "dots", Hindus do, which makes the slur doubly insulting. That's what set me off. By the way, I'm no youngster. I'm 34, and I'm a teacher.

God, I'm ashamed...I repent! I repent! I've completely lost my cool in public. Not many things will, but "dothead" will do that. You'll never see me here again, AMG. I promise. I will never blog on this useless board again. I will, however, attend the anti-war protest in March, and vote my conscience. Insults aside, I will say three things that I genuinely believe to be true:
1. You were wrong about the anti-war movement.
2. Polman was wrong about the anti-war movment.
3. I blog way, way too much. You do too.

You can have the last word. Adios.

Well, I made an assertion (that you are full of shit) and backed it up with evidence....I guess that qualifies as reasoned at the very least.

Until then, grow up son.

Destroy itself from within? What a load of baloney. The anti-war feeling in this country is what propelled the Democrats to victory in the midterms!

AMG - Not only do you need to grow up, you need to grow a pair. Just for your insolence, I'm going to leave another of your turds on display. From the resident Democrat-establishment shill:

Seriously now, protesting the Dems BEFORE they've actually taken office is like yelling at your mechanic for the cost of his work before he's even gotten your car in his work bay. It does no good.

Sheehan has been manipulated so badly that anything she does now is cheered only by a select group of people. Her actions and the actions of the other protestors did nothing yesterday but make themselves look foolish and out of touch.

Yes, Polman is a professional communicator and he chose his words carefully. But his words make a point. As he has stated man times before, the demise of the true conservative party came about because the far right got control of the party and ran it there way. If the far left "insurgents" do the same to the Democratic party, the party's failures over the past 12 years will be nothing more than a ripple on the ocean.

Right wingers rejoice. Your opposition could potentially destroy itself from within.

Yes son, get a life. That's 2 minutes of your life wasted on some silly anger issue that you can't control.

Get a life son, get a life.

Get a life? That little search, cut and paste job took about 2 minutes. Want more? Tell me, AMG, how old were you when you became completely full of shit?

Nice try knucklehead. Every quote you pulled (and seriously, you need to get a life) is part of a string of point/counterpoint. But of course you don't get that. It would take a modicum of intelligence to make the connections.

But keep wasting time fixating on a handful of my posts while excluding the hundreds of others. I'm sure this is the most exciting thing in your boring little life.

I'm glad to be here for you. Enjoy yourself.

Of course he's a suckup. I could definitely find much more if I had the stomach for it, but here's a brief sample-

It's pretty obvious that Bush is going to propose sending more troops to Iraq and the Democrats will acquiesce, after an empty show of "disapproval". These fucking Democrats deserve to lose, because they ARE weak. Stop listening to their words and look at their actions in terms of policy. There is no opposition to the war in congress.

Yeah, the whole two days they've been in power they haven't done a thing!! You're right anon, they are weak. Let's just all sit back and let Bush do his thing. After all, he's done a such a good job so far.

anon, they haven't been in power for years. For the last 12 years the Repubs controlled Congress and have essentially shut down the Dems.

But then you know that already and your post is nothing more than an attempt to make it look like the Dems are a bunch of do-nothing freeloaders, which is the Repub party line.

Nice try.

amg said...
Yes, as oppossed to those that used to be our leaders and just rubber stamped anything bush wanted without any oversight.

Keep trying to make it the Dem's fault. Even the anon, who claims to be a Dem, is making excuses for the Repubs. The Dems weren't the only ones who voted for the war.

You can't have this argument without acknowledging the mood of the nation. Bush manipulated the mood to justify the war and ignored the facts of the intel and shaped the intel to make the case he wanted to make.

odh, you know nothing about me and you clearly lack the intelligence to comprehend what you read. If you did, you would have never called me a suckup.

And I'll let you know when I care what you think about me. In the meantime, don't hold your breath waiting for me to care. I'd hate for you to die before puberty.

AMG - I'm a registered Democrat but I think you are a suck up to the Democratic Party, plain and simple. Why does this Republican action matter to you? Because the Democrats won't have the chance to wave their phony "resolution" in the air? Like someone said before, the Democrats are the majority, they hold the cards, if they want to take substantive action against the surge they can.

This is the sort of party loyalty that creates the monstrous, neverending campaign politics that you people complain about, yet reinforce with insubstantial, phony political stances.

2007-02-08T13:11:00.000-05:00

Guess what? THERE IS NO REAL DEBATE IN CONGRESS ABOUT STOPPING THE TROOP SURGE. The "resolution" has no teeth (er, it isn't resolute). I could care less if the Republicans end the "debate". The only difference the Republican action will have is to give the Democrats the appearance of being in favor of stopping the surge. After awhile it gets tiring pointing out the phoniness that is rampant in congress.

2007-02-08T12:53:00.000-05:00

anon, tell us all again how the Repubs were trying to broaden the debate? When you demand a 60 vote tally, you aren't trying to broaden anything. The vote tally is intended to shut everything down.

The evil MSM doesn't have it wrong, you do, and so do the Repubs.

2007-02-08T09:59:00.000-05:00

Okay, okay, Newt was in the House and not the Senate. Jeez, technicalities...and beside the point...unless you're someone who wants to say something just to say something.

Newt was the face of the Republican Revolution. I said Newt and the boys...what? R u now going to pick on the fact that I didn't say Newt and the boys and girls?

Do you believe he wasn't in the inner circle with Senators planning these things?

Good lord, let's stick to the theme and not muddy the waters...I didn't call him Senator Newt...again, he was the face of the Republican Revolution of 1994. That's all.
The point is the R's established precedent, so anyone blaming the D's has only the R's to thank for this.

Truly, it's a poor use of this tool and it was not intended for this application. As slow and backlogged as our federal benches are, the politicians don't help by keeping positions open.

2007-02-07T17:55:00.000-05:00

From reading the post, one would get the impression that Republicans were trying to stifle debate. Absolutely incorrect. In fact, Democrats were trying to stifle debate with the cloture motion. Republicans were trying to broaden the debate and include other resolutions. I find it amazing that most of the MSM (including the WaPo and NYT) also reported this incorrectly.

Nah, there is no bias there. As another poster said...it depends on whose ox is being gored.

2007-02-07T14:08:00.000-05:00

Democrats filibustered judges until the "gang of 14" threatened to go along with the nuclear option, then they approved several for votes.
Democrats filibustered a minimum wage bill 9 times because it contained a repeal of the estate tax. It needed 60 votes to be approved.
They filibustered several other measures as well, not just judges as proposed earlier in these posts.

Republicans are not trying to limit debate. They want to debate and vote on every resolution. Even the Inquirer the other day said Democrats do not want to vote on the Gregg resolution because they would have to vote for it or else appear to be against the troops. So it makes sense they do not want it debated, so who is it that is limiting debate?
Polman just follows the liberal lead, drinks the Kool Aide, and blames the Republicans. Maybe he would be more apt to agree if he were limited to only a certain number of posts about Bush and Iraq, say two a week. Then he would have almost nothing else to write about.
