Safe and Strong in His Arms

Back again!!!

Seems like I am the one returning to my blog every time...

This time life has taken me through continued teaching, pregnancy, 9 hours of labours - one of the most intense experiences of my life, my chubby lil Rihanna, breastfeeding for 11 months, connecting with my cute little gift from God and seeing her little person grow and my doctoral research in corpus.

So, I am about to leave for Kolkata for week long workshop on corpus annotation and etc etc...I am hoping it gives me the breakthrough I need and the trigger I am desperate for.

Of course, married life goes on...and on... and on... That's the new lesson I have learnt about marriage.. :) Rohan's a papa and I enjoy seeing him grow as a person as he finds his footing as a father.

So, that's it. Hope it doesn't take me too long before I come back here.

Back to Blogging

I have returned to the world of blogging after a long break of around 3 years. What brings me back are my students. Life has taken a turn and I'm back where I was a few posts ago (a few years in real time). I'm at H. M. Patel Institute, Vidyanagar, Anand, teaching MA ELT students now.

Nothing more to write for now.

A peculiar people

I loved this particular version of Titus 2:11-14 [KJV]

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

It says the church are a peculiar people because they are zealous of good works. Zeal in a lot of areas is seen in the world like workplace, family, profession, personal identity, etc, but while it is commendable to be zealous in any respect, the Bible proclaims the people of God as naturally inclined towards being zealous of good works..and that is definitely not the convention of the day..

So, be different, be peculiar, be zealous of good works.

Now what would provoke me enough to write again...

nothing but the sheer blessing of God that I've experienced this last week. At first, we had two wonderful evenings of meetings with Tony, Matthew and Chris. And then, four wonderful days of fellowship with the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and men of God..i truly understood the power of covenant and covenant friendships during this last week when I met my great friend and brother Chris on his visit to India.
It was such a great time of refreshing and rejuvenation, it simply blew me away!! I am glad that God joins us to people even when they are so far away from us, probably only in terms of distance, definitely not in the Spirit. It is so comforting and at the same time awe-inspiring to think that all of us in Christ, oblivious of where we are, have all been doused into the mighty living waters to become one in Him.

Something I stumbled upon...

These are words of Sabina Wurmbrand from her book The Pastor's Wife. I think they are terrific.

Richard is aware of the danger. And every danger of which you are aware ceases to be a real danger.

Just updates

I have finished my masters degree and now have enrolled for an MPhil in ELT [English Language Teaching]. I'm also working along with it on a government project in the same field so am planning to do my research in the same area ofcourse.
I have to teach Worldviews and English at the Nadiad Bible college this year and am quite excited about the new techniques about English teaching that i have learnt from my new job.
So, that's that..just in case any of you wish to know...

After a lonnngg break..

Its almost been two and a half months since I posted anything on this blog but loads of things happened otherwise.
The biggest event, my sister, Esther got married and has gone to Scotland with her husband, Sanjiv. She is enjoying the beautiful summer weather right now and mouthing ferrero rochers all day and gloating about it to me over the internet!!
I have to teach Covenant this time round at the Bible college along with Worldviews and English which will be great fun. I still remember how Bryan Shutt had made us all fall in love with it and ofcourse, the mighty hesed of God. I am really excited about it and if any of you have strayed upon my blog, do pray for me that I am able to do justice to it.
My second year at MA is still in mid-air because Part-I results are not out yet but they will be out soon by the looks of things.
So, there you are, now you have the main updates of things on my side.
I hope I am back here, composing another post soon.
You can check out Chandrakant's revamped blog from this link below

my sis is getting married...

...on the 7th of April and its crazy last weeks going on in the countdown. The wedding gown is almost on the way but i have still not figured out what to wear. Anyway, just thought this was a good update.
One li'l word to chew upon. God spoke to me lately and told me that as the people of the kingdom we were destined to turn "promises into reality". That was pretty amazing.
Alrite then...mum's calling.

Who will save me?

Once upon a time Paul cried out that who would save him from "this body of death". These days I can say I am right there with you Paul, actually its quite good to have a comrade in the turbulence and yet sometimes it feels so alone so hard while all the while Satan keeps blaring in your ears of how incompetent you have proved, how slack you've gotten but, thank God,Paul after voicing his cry immediately follows up by saying "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

And well indeed, thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, whose mercies are new everyday and who is a strong unshakeable rock on whom we stand. When we are in Him, nothing can break us, let alone the weazel-like attempts of Satan. Indeed we can surely say,

For we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost but among those who stand and so are saved. Hebrews 10:39

Praise God!!

One cannot begin it too soon.

I came across this poem by Samuel Butler Yeats a few days ago and surely one can say he has nailed it in this one.
I whispered, 'I am too young,'
And then, 'I am old enough';
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
'Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.'
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.
O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

Life as it is...

my dashboard said my last post was in sept, 2007, quite a long time ago. i dont think anyone might have still kept up with loggin on..maybe u must have given up but well here i am back again.
so howz life in your corner of the world?? up there floating with the clouds...being ridden through some gales of fun and laughter or is it the valleys for now???
thats it for now..

Reservoir of strength

Here's one of the many gems that Proverbs has to offer for our lives,

Drink water from your own cistern,
And fresh water from your own well.

Though this is being used here in a different context, I got a feeling that it had more to say that just the message that it gave directly in the situation under discussion. As I meditated over it, I started seeing it in a new light which encouraged me and taught me something about our life in the Spirit and the importance of our relationship with God.
As we go on in our everyday lives, we need to remember that at all times, we need to have a cistern or a reservoir of resources ready for ourselves to draw from. The biggest reservoir for a believer is the Word of God. One needs to keep soaking oneself well in the Word, so that whenever needed, one can draw from it the precious drink of life that will cause him or her to go ahead in their walk with God with renewed and refreshed strength.
The second line talked to me loads about having a constantly active intimate relationship with God. Sometimes, in the midst of our zeal to achieve great feats for the Kingdom, we tend to forget the first, innocent and tender love with which we approached and adored the face of our Father. Now, that is something which should be remedied or rather avoided at all times. Our personal, intimate relationship with Christ is our well of fresh water. We might draw from him whenever we need to. We dont need other artificial solutions because we have the best resource with us.
Therefore, today as you go about your daily activities, dont forget to tell God how much you love and adore him.

The Church

I came across this sonnet by John Donne and loved the manner of his expression.

Show me, dear Christ, thy spouse so bright and clear.
What! is it she which on the other shore
Goes richly painted? or which, robbed and tore,
Laments and mourns in Germany and here?
Sleeps she a thousand, then peeps up one year?
Is she self-truth, and errs? now new, now outwore?
Doth she, and did she, and shall she evermore
On one, on seven, or on no hill appear?
Dwells she with us, or like adventuring knights
First travel we to seek, and then make love?
Betray, kind husband, thy spouse to our sights,
And let mine amorous soul court thy mild dove,
Who is most true and pleasing to thee then
When she is embraced and open to most men.

tell me what do you think??

Welcome students of GCMT!

This post is specially for my GCMT students. Its a great landmark in these ten months that you are now accessing the internet and are able to find your way through it.
Blogging is a very interesting way of journaling our opinion and beliefs in a public space as well as getting a group discussion going. If you love doing this stuff, it can be a very effective medium.
Cheers to Justin sir for having brought you this far and I am sure this is just the beginning and the best is yet to come...

ps. i will try and post regularly from now on!

Its raining again!

It had been really hot for a few days now and today, somehow, the Ahmedabad skies decided it was enough and gave the Amdavadis a respite by giving us a day of RAIN...
The first day of college is long gone, its down to everyday business now.
Lately, I have been reading Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman and I came across this piece that I absolutely loved.

STRANGER, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me?And why should I not speak to you?

So tell me what do you think about it?

First class

It felt like old times again [ofcourse it seems like ages ago when I used rush to college everday]. I was trying not to be late and literally ran from the parking in our college up to the assembly hall which is on the third floor [quite a sight but couldnt help it!].
After the usual introductions and the welcome address, we were directed to our classes. I had assumed there would be no lectures today so had conveniently not taken anytime but a tiny diary to take down the timetable. But lo behold..we were told our lectures would begin that very day.
Thus began my first class of MA. It was really great. I enjoyed it a lot. The paper is on the Renaissance Age and the texts during that period. Our professor began by giving an introductory lecture on the various perspectives to this crucial event in history. I should say not having prepared for the lecture beforehand I felt a little bit shaky at the wide ranges of time and events that he was spanning but it sure did whet my apetite for the lecture.
So here goes..bring it on...I am ready for an exciting journey through the study of English literature once again.

The God who is there..where?

No, the title of my post is not some ingenuous creation of my mind but is the title of an article by John Fischer. I was browsing through a few blogs and websites lately and I came across this article comparing Francis Schaeffer's The God Who is There and Bill Hybels' The God You're Looking For.

I recommend you go through it and ponder over the questions and crucial issues that Fischer raises in it. You can read the article by going to

You doing business in the deep??

He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters; They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep. For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea. They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery. They reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven. Psalm 107:20-30

God has spoken to me very strongly through this passage of Scripture lately. When on the beach, one can sit back and enjoy the scenery and do nothing. And it will be fine but one will be simply sitting back and will gain nothing more than some aesthetic pleasure. It is the one who dares to go on a ship, in the midst of the sea and go scuba diving [i am not sure i am using the term right but well u get it dont u what i mean] gets the real taste of the beauty of the sea and all that it holds within it.

In the same way, we can sit back and enjoy the pleasures of the Kingdom of God but if you desire the pearls of the deep, you have to do business in the deep. It is only in the deep that we can experience the wonders of God. It is when we experience His awesome refreshing and invigorating presence in the midst of the rising up to the heavens and going down to the depths, that we really know the wonder of who our King is and what he has in store for us. If we really want to see the restoration of things in our time, we gotta go down to the sea and do business in the deep.

It might be a little bit shaky and out of our comfort zone but just think about the time when He calms the waves, when he ultimately guides us to our desired haven.

Oh what a wonder that our business is in the Kingdom of God!

So buckle up and enjoy the race while you run it with patience and let me know how it goes with you, I would be very interested to know all about it.

Dont lose focus

Lately God has been leading me to read 1 Samuel and as I have been going through the familiar lives of Saul and David, today, God taught me one more thing which is also something all of us know for sure but sometimes just seem to forget.

Though Saul was out hunting for David, David never lost focus of the fact that God had called and appointed him and he was not there to fight for power or position. Rather than fighting with Saul, he focused on fighting the enemies. He knew what he was against, he didnt have his enemies confused. Sometimes, I have experienced that I seem to lose focus of who I am up against and that creates a lot of confusion causing me stagnate. But more importantly at such times I also lose focus of the one purpose and person to whom I have been predestined and called but thank God that he continually exhorts us to fix our eyes on the author and perfecter of our faith. And once our focus is right everything starts to fall into the right place.

So thats it for today....dont lose your focus

Normal life about to begin

I am officially a student at St. Xaviers College Ahmedabad now and my MA lectures will begin from the 28th of this month. The Bible College at Nadiad has already begun and my lectures will start after two or three weeks. So, it will be cool to be a teacher and a student together.
So, the usual life is about to begin. God has been speaking very strongly to me from Psalm 107. Do read it especially if you feel a little bit shaken and tossed around in your life. It will strengthen you and cause you to go for the purposes of God with much a renewed passion.

Wedding done with..

So the wedding's done with now. My sister's off to start a completely new phase of her life and we have been left behind once again with this weird feeling of complete blankness which usually occurs when one has focussed all attention on the accomplishment of a goal and then as soon as one accomplishes it,it is like, now what?
But now what for me because I have loads of stuff to do. I have decided that it is time I finish my Masters degree so I will stay in Ahmedabad now and complete it. I will continue my work in Nadiad so it will be a little bit of a rush though I am sure its going to be exciting.
Lately, I have started taking lessons in the keyboard and have learnt from the beginning itself how important regular disciplined practice is. For all of you who know me well, I'd rather sit six hours together and complete an assignment than sitting for an hour for six days. Same has been the case with spending time in prayer and waiting on God but I know very well their importance in Kingdom life and I think its time to gird myself up and get back on track.
Do pray for me for the same.

Quick update

My elder sister [ I have three elder sisters, this is the second one] is getting married tomorrow, part of the reason you havent seen hardly any posts lately. But I got some time out to post this quick one for all of you.

Do pray for the wedding that everything goes smoothly and all of us have a great time. Every wedding brings the Ultimate Wedding to our mind of how one day our Ultimate Mr. Right is going to come for His beautiful triumphant bride in all splendid glory. What an amazing day that is going to be!!

As he grew...

Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail. 1 Sam 3:19

This verse encouraged me greatly this week. I have been reading about Samuel's life and how he spent most of his time in the Temple in the presence of God. He was passionately doing what he had been born to do even though he didnt know all about God's plan for his life. Infact he wasnt even aware of how God's voice would sound like [sounds like many of us who have doubts about hearing from God] but because he had a genuine heart attitude God spoke to him and created the provision that he needed, to go ahead in the destiny God had in store for him.
The amazing thing that the 19th verse states is that God didnt let any of his words fail. He wasnt perfect, but he was growing and God didnt shame him ever, infact He took care that none of his words failed. Thats our Father who is interested in every detail and phase of our life.

Shall I not...

Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery? says the Lord. Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb? says your God. Isaiah 66:9

God upholds everything that is and that happens on the earth. Ecc 3:1 states thats everything has a season. God is the God of fruitfulness therefore, he will cause fruits to be manifest through your life, the key is to reach or be in the time of fruitfulness.

External circumstances, least of all, never deter or distract us from the King's highway that we have chosen and yet, again Jesus said that You have not chosen me but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain.. We have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit therefore, nothing should make us believe the lie that we cant or are unable to bear fruit, yes, we might not have seen it visibly but what is important is that we run the race with perseverance and in due time, we will see it manifest in our lives and our surroundings.

Cutest dog ever...
