Our house in Provence

Our house is a carefully renovated natural stone country house (built in 1796) set in terraced olive-groves in the commune of Mons, near Fayence. The house (a perfect rectangle on 3 floors) faces south-east and its terraced patio is covered by beautiful vines supported by a wooden pergola.

What makes this a great holiday in Provence for you?

The property is in a secluded hamlet with a handhold of other barely visible country houses spread out in a micro-climate hillside.  It is in the commune of Mons (Saint-Jean), lying between the dramatic gorges of the Siagne and Siagnole (2m away), formed of mountain streams, where you can paddle or picnic.

Saint-Jean is peaceful and sheltered with marvellous views over the nearby hills. The closest village - Mons - is 7 minutes away by car and sits unchanged on a rocky outcrop for 1,000 years, with spectacular views to the Mediterranean. Mons has an épicier, a boulanger and 3 restuarants and is a beautiful place to explore.

Nearby are the popular and scenic ‘villages perches’ of Fayence, Callian, Montauroux and St. Cezaire, where you can find an enormous range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets: everything from local with atmosphere to elegant with Michelin stars.

Outside the house, a cobbled patio is ideal for outdoor eating - a special place under the vines in the summer. It is covered by several vines which offer shade. The views are out towards the landmark mountain with exposed strata.

Outside the sitting room, there is outdoor furniture (a sofa, two arm chairs & coffee table) for relaxing in the shade.

A teak table with eight chairs is provided for outdoor eating. The children will enjoy eating from a small stone table.

The pool is 75 metres or so from the house: you can relax by the pool in complete seclusion and tranquility, surrounded by terraces of olives, the peace only disturbed by the quiet buzz of cicadas. You will not be over-looked.

The pool is 5m by 10m. It is surrounded by a barrier - making it safe for children - which encloses a large terrace where you can relax on the provided sun-loungers.

The view looks across the nearby hills..

There are two “master” bedrooms, both with double beds and ensuite bathrooms. There are two other bedrooms on the 2nd floor: a third double bedroom and a fourth with 3 single beds (& a foldaway campbed) - ideal for kids - and a 3rd bathroom (WC + shower).
