Landon was one the the team captains for his sixth soccer game of the season this afternoon.

(image)

Landon had a long drive down field before he passed off to a teammate.

Another hard kick to move the ball up field. Landon almost scored a goal during a fracas in front of the goal. After a scoreless first half, the boys went on to win 2-1.

Will's Seventh Basketball Game of 2017

2017-02-18T23:24:23-06:00

(image)

Will had his seventh basketball game of the season this morning. So far, his team is undefeated. Here Will is showing perfect jump shot form during warm-ups. Note his left hand is not "thumbing" the ball!

(image)

In a lucky photo opportunity, Will showed great hustle chasing after a loose ball that was headed almost perfectly my way.

Will and his coach pointing out a fine point of play on the court.

Will stole the ball and lead the fast break down the court.

Will scored a goal on a great turn-around jump shot!

Landon's First Baseball Game of 2016

2016-03-21T23:33:58-06:00

Landon had his first baseball game of the season this evening. It was the first game of a preseason tournament. Landon demonstrating his patented leg-lift batting technique. Landon walloped a coach-pitch for his first hit of the season. A thumbs-up from first base. Watching the field, ready to take off from first base. With some help from his teammates, Landon made it all the way home. Ready to field the ball at deep short/shallow center. Off to the races after the ball got past a teammate. Throwing the ball in from the fence. Ready in the outfield. Going after a ground ball. Throwing another one in from the outfield. Landon hit another coach-pitch to go 2 for 3 for the day. I have no idea where this bat and helmet came from. Safe at first base. Two thumbs-up from second base where Landon was left stranded. He played a great game. It was a good start to the new season.[...]

We Are All French Today

The bedroom wall above my bed while growing up...nous sommes tous français aujourd'hui.

Last night in Paris, France, and its suburb Saint-Denis, at lease 129 people were murdered and more than 350 were injured by three separate explosions and six mass shootings in yet another series of attacks by Muslim extremists.

The day before ISIS committed "one of the worst terror attacks in European history," President Obama declared ISIS "contained."

Amber Catching her Toy

2015-07-11T23:45:55-06:00

Like most dogs, Amber loves playing fetch.

(image)

Occasionally, she will get her timing just right and catch her toy in the air.

Success!

Backyard Soccer

Will and Landon took advantage of the great weather to enjoy some backyard soccer.

Drew Finished Duolingo Spanish

2015-07-05T23:04:17-06:00

(image)

Last September, Drew started learning Spanish on Duolingo. Today, he finished his Spanish tree in all gold! Duolingo is free language learning program with over 100 million registered users across the globe. Finishing his Spanish tree approximately equates to an entire first year of college Spanish. Drew worked incredibly hard on his Spanish every day (he has a 245 day streak). Great job Drew, congratulations!

4th of July 2015

2015-07-04T23:53:05-06:00

(image)

Our 4th of July started out with a neighborhood parade with the help of the local fire department.

(image)

Everyone got to take turns checking out the inside of the fire truck. ("Fire trucks" have large mechanical ladders that extend from the truck but do not come off, while "fire engines," or pumpers, carry hose, tools, pump water and have smaller detachable portable ladders.)

(image)

Will, Landon and Drew on the front of the fire truck enjoying some patriotic rocket pops.

(image)

The boys playing some Yu-Gi-Oh while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

(image)

I've taken a lot of fireworks photos in the past (2012, 2013, 2014) so, this year, just this one which I thought showed the atmosphere pretty well (I like guy in the corner taking a picture with his cell phone). The fireworks will always be remembered for the 30 minute break during the fireworks shortly before the finally.

Another Lost Tooth

2015-07-03T23:49:31-06:00

(image)

Landon lost another tooth. He's not in pain, that's a smile combined with, "show me your tooth."

(image)

I have no idea how teeth work...must be magic...and magnets...definitely magnets.

Canoeing the Illinois River

2015-06-27T23:54:02-06:00

(image)

Drew has a weekend scouting canoe trip coming up and he's never been canoeing so he, Will and I decided to take a little trip down the Illinois River in preparation.

(image)

We canoed the short course which is supposed to take two to four hours. It took us just 50 minutes.

(image)

The trip was flawless. No one even got wet. It was the perfect prep for Drew's canoe-camp-out.

Memorial Day Flag Folding

2015-05-25T23:45:53-06:00

(image)

Floral Haven had over 3400 flags set out all over their grounds; one for ever veteran buried there. Local boy scouts help take down the flags each year. This year Drew and I helped out.

(image)

The process starts with retiring the Garrison Flag.

(image)

Afterward, we were off to a far corner to start taking taking down flags and poles.

(image)

Each flag has a metal tag identifying the person the flag represents.

(image)

After the flags are all taken down, they are cleaned and inspected for any that are too worn and need replacement. Many hands make light work and with the hundreds of scouts present, it took less than two hours before all the flags were down. We had a great time and look forward to returning next year.

Landon's Sixth Baseball Game

2015-04-29T23:56:50-06:00

Landon's team played their sixth game of the season this evening. Landon did a great job playing third base and went one for two at bat. Unfortunately, the other team was just too much and our boys lost 13-19.

Drew's Eighth Soccer Game of 2015

2015-04-26T23:34:56-06:00

Drew's team played their eighth soccer game of the season today. It was a tough game against an undefeated team. The other team simply out powered our boys which resulted in a 0-5 loss.

Drew's Seventh Soccer Game of 2015

2015-04-25T23:22:16-06:00

Drew's team had their seventh soccer game of the season today. Drew got to play goalie the second half and did a great job. He was really aggressive and made some great saves! His team wound up winning 6-4.

Landon's Fifth Baseball Game

2015-04-24T23:47:55-06:00

Landon played his fifth baseball game tonight. He went 2 for 2, scoring once, and played short stop and third base. His team did really well and won the game 10-6.
