Traffic Signal Technician II

Friday 12 Noon - Thursday 5 pm

Under the direction of a higher classification, performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, traffic signal control systems and associated electronic equipment. Work involves the performance of routine tasks in locating and correcting solid state, electronic, electrical and mechanical defects in traffic signal systems. Work also involves the performance of shop level repairs and maintenance work on a variety of solid state, electronic, electrical, electromechanical and digital traffic signal control equipment. Work is performed independently, with considerable latitude for determining materials and work methods used, and is subject to inspection during progress and upon completion. Minor supervision may be exercised over a small crew of workers as assigned. Assignments are usually given orally, but may be in writing and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Incumbents may be required to attend or complete other courses of instruction if it is deemed necessary by a superior. Employees of this class are required to be on twenty-four (24) hour a day call. The Traffic Signal Technician II is distinguished from the Traffic Signal Technician I by requiring more complex field level repairs and maintenance work on a variety of traffic signal control equipment. Performs other work as requested.
