On Saturday, April 4 the North Seattle Family Center hosted it's Fifth Annual Celebration of African Cultures. Over 350 children and families attended the event, and over $2,795 was raised from cash and in-kind donations from the community.

Trail mapping begins in NE Seattle

At the Kick-off community members collectively mapped walking routes in their neighborhood. Photo provided by Feet First. Modeled on the West Seattle Trails project, Feet First is working with community groups to create the first trails map of NE Seattle. Feet First is a pedestrian advocacy organization, working to create walkable communities, in which people are encouraged to experience their neighborhood on foot, through participation in mapping and sign development.

Big fat flakes fell again this morning, turning ordinarily drab Lake City into a winter wonderland. It may be years before we see snow like this again. As pretty as it is, I'm ready for the rain to wash it all away. 40 degree temperatures sounds absolutely tropical to me.

Walking around the neighborhood, I came across this amazing snow sculpture created by local artists Michael Ness and Emily Singer, with help from their neighbor Linda Mantandos and others. Hopefully it will last through tomorrow.

Well it looks like we're in for a long week of snow, ice and cold. The weather forecast is for heavy snow developing in the south by late afternoon, pushing north through the Seattle metro area in the early evening. Locally, we could see 3-8" of snow Saturday evening into Sunday
