International day of non violence

Thu, 04 Oct 2007 05:57:00 +0000

A few days ago I had a phone call scheduled with a business in India that failed to happen.I received an email the next day, with an apology and an explanation that it was October 2nd. The reason for the missed meeting was to be understood without explanation.Continue reading..

Suburban Panhandling 2007 style

Fri, 28 Sep 2007 17:20:00 +0000

On the way home today, I felt nostalgic. At the exit for 202 on 520E, There was a nicely dressed guy, running from car to car with a gas container in his hand. As cars pulled up off the free way waiting, he would talk to the one nearest to him.Well, if you wonder whats so special about the guy, I have to tell you about an incident a few months ago.Continue reading..

A friend just now sent this to me:

Thank God for George Bush

Tue, 18 Sep 2007 07:55:00 +0000

I never thought I would say it, but I really am glad today that George Bush got re-elected in 2004.I saw this video of this student asking John Kerry some provocative questions, and then being manhandled by a bunch of cops. First of all, why do cops need to take physical action when someone is just talking? Whatever happened to free speech?Continue reading..

Plagiarism – Indian style

Mon, 17 Sep 2007 12:03:00 +0000

India makes the most movies of any country in the world, and the act is made easy by the blatant act of copying superhit scripts from other movies launched elsewhere - and Hollywood is a prime source of inspiration. But the good side effect is that Indians usually are big on watching movies.Being the Indian that I am, and the American that I have become, it was not surprising that my day home today (I am sick and in bed) was spent as following.Continue reading..

Whats in a name

Thu, 13 Sep 2007 18:22:00 +0000

One of the cool things we have at work are these weekly notices that are put up in the toilets, where you spend your downtime reading through some fun tidbits. If you have not seen one of those, all you need to do is visit our Google office in Kirkland and go to the restroom. But something there caught my eye today.Continue reading..

Google Gadgets

Just discovered a treasure trove full of stuff I can put on my website. I was looking for a way to add search to my blog, when I came across Google Gadgets - and interestingly there is a way to add these gadgets to any page that wants them.Continue reading..

Indian vacation

Tue, 04 Sep 2007 19:23:00 +0000

I have never heard of anyone who has been to India and has come back with an 'eh!'.You either love the place, or you hate it. And whichever camp you are in, after you live there for a while, the other side starts growing on you... among other things.Today, I discovered yet another admirer of Indian tourism. Conde Nast Traveler.Continue reading..

Miss South Carolina vs The Presider

Mon, 03 Sep 2007 19:14:00 +0000

I was watching Real Time by Bill Maher the other day. He showed a video of Miss South Carolina answering a question, and followed it directly by a video clip of President Bush answering another question. The whole thing was interesting enough that I thought I would share it with the rest of non-HBO-subscribing, non-Real-Time-Tivoing populace - thanks to YouTube.

Ki Aag releasing today

Fri, 31 Aug 2007 11:52:00 +0000

If you do not recognize the name of the movie, here is a hint: Sholay (fireballs). If you are an Indian worth your weight in matar paneer, you know what Sholay is. For the rest, you will need to mentally blend Casablanca's contribution to phrases used in society today with the action and drama of Godfather. And you get India's Sholay. But what does that have to do with Ki Aag ('s fire), you ask?Continue reading..

Numerology, Indian style

Tue, 28 Aug 2007 13:03:00 +0000

A long while ago, while flying from Bangalore to New Delhi, unlike most real life situations, a cute girl came and sat next to me. Looked a little like Mahima Chaudhary.

Life In A Metro

Sun, 26 Aug 2007 12:38:00 +0000

Saw a great Indian movie today, one of the few that you can enjoy even if you are not attuned to weathering the music, emotion and drama Bollywood presents. The movie had a lot of different characters, an estranged couple with a kid, a struggling artist, yuppies sleeping their way up the corporate ladder, geriatric couple making out in their golden years, singles looking for a marriage partner through dating websites, and above all excellent music by an Indian rock group that shows up at various points in the movie.Continue reading..
