The LAST Huskies blog posting here

Mon, 16 Mar 2009 05:58:00 +0000

Well, Huskies fans, this is it... My final posting on the Huskies football blog.

Greetings from the Tacoma Dome!

Four Downs with the Running Backs

Wed, 11 Mar 2009 10:41:00 +0000

I originally planned to break this post into two separate posts so we could get a deeper look at the tailbacks and fullbacks. However, since my newspaper – thus, this blog – is running out of time, so am I! Here is your peek at the running backs:

Wells injured, will miss spring

Tue, 10 Mar 2009 10:49:00 +0000

Seattle P-I Seahawks beat writer Clare Farnsworth attended the UW Pro Day today at the Dempsey Indoor facility and had this to report on Huskies S Jason Wells: "Jason Wells was at the UW Pro Day -- on crutches and with his right foot in a boot. He tore the Achilles working out and the optimistic outlook is that he'll be ready for the start of the season. He did not want to be interviewed about the injury."

Four Downs with the Quarterbacks

Mon, 09 Mar 2009 09:18:00 +0000

A QUICK LOOK BACK: Four games in to the season, the Pac-10's returning Freshman of the Year, Huskies quarterback Jake Locker, suffered a season-ending thumb injury when he – of all things – leveled a block on an end-around. The offensive production for the season went to the sidelines right along with Locker. Redshirt freshman Ronnie Fouch was forced to take over the offense and, despite showing he could throw the long ball, performed poorly in a scheme that never looked well put-together.

Brief hiatus

Folks, I will be covering the 4A state basketball tournament today before heading out of town.

Search for Cooper, others to be suspended

The news out of Clearwater, Fla. is tragic this afternoon.

Four Downs with the Cornerbacks

Tue, 03 Mar 2009 03:40:00 +0000

With a lot of Huskies' news on tap Monday, I held off posting this until early Tuesday morning so the blog wouldn't get bogged down and you wouldn't miss anything on the search for former LB Marquis Cooper and a nice bit of recruiting news. A bit delayed, but here you go... Narbonne RB Davis commits

Mon, 02 Mar 2009 11:36:00 +0000 is reporting Melvin Davis, a power running back from Los Angeles' Narbonne High, has orally committed to play for the Washington Huskies.

Mahdavi “just can’t believe this”

Mon, 02 Mar 2009 07:40:00 +0000

There might not be any former Washington Husky teammate that knows Marquis Cooper the way Ben Mahdavi does.

Neuheisel “very, very hopeful this has a happy ending”

Mon, 02 Mar 2009 06:54:00 +0000

Former Washington Huskies coach Rick Neuheisel, now in his second year as UCLA's head coach, doesn't remember Marquis Cooper came to UW in part to pursue his hobby: Fishing.

Cooper’s boat, one man found; no sign of others

Mon, 02 Mar 2009 05:08:00 +0000

In a developing story from Clearwater Pass, Fla., the man found on the overturned boat in Clearwater Pass, Fla. was former South Florida player Nick Schuyler, according to an update just moments ago on ESPN.

2010: A UW recruiting odyssey

Check out my story on the Huskies' recruiting effort for 2010.

Four Downs with the Safeties

Fri, 27 Feb 2009 07:48:00 +0000

A QUICK LOOK BACK: The lack of depth and talent showed up nowhere more than in the safety position. Last season's coaching staff rotated a true freshman (Johri Fogerson), an injured player (Victor Aiyewa) and a 27-year old former baseball player (Tripper Johnson) and still couldn't find any success. Junior-to-be Nate Williams was second on the team with 76 tackles and, despite leveling some bone-jarring hits, did not display the speed necessary to be an elite-level safety.
