Comics Corner: For fans of the comic book

Talk about all things related to comics from the stories to the art and the artists themselves. A blog for the uninitiated, current, and former fans of comic books. For all ages, of course.

untitled

Fri, 23 Jan 2009 05:22:00 +0000

So, I've moved on. I love having a blog here but I decided to just do one on Blogger about comics. Where I can speak more freely (I have a little bit of a potty mouth). And where I can talk poorly about creators and feel it's not a reflection in any way on the Seattle PI.

RIP Eartha Kitt

Such an amazing singer. I remember seeing her once years ago at Jazz Alley. She will be missed.

Drops and fence riders

So, the new year is upon us. More new titles are coming out, and more titles are hitting the $3.99. So of course, I start looking at titles I could start doing without.

Omnibus madness

If you like Omnibuses, March is going to suck for you. Check it out...

Golden Globe nomination

Thu, 11 Dec 2008 08:31:00 +0000

The nominations for Golden Globes have been announced this morning. Heath Ledger got the nomination for Best Supporting Actor. I actually never saw Tropic Thunder (yet) but Tom Cruise and Iron Man himself... Robert Downey Jr are nominated as well. You also have Ralph Finnes for The Duchess, and Phillip Seymore Hoffman for Doubt. So I have no idea what the competition is like... But I'm rooting for Heath.

Jason Aaron and G. Willow Wilson coming to town

Tue, 09 Dec 2008 03:37:00 +0000

Emerald City Comic Con just updated their guest list, and I'm giddy. Giddy like Bendis the day his comics come out. You know who they are if you read the title. But yeah... Jason Aaron, writer of Scalped and G. Willow Wilson, writer of Air. My two current favorite titles at Vertigo (and yes, that is including 100 Bullets which only has two more issues left after tomorrow). Other names added? Kieron Dwyer is coming back, hooray!

Punisher War Journal (why did you not see it)

Mon, 08 Dec 2008 04:36:00 +0000

Punisher War Journal opened this past weekend... Making 4 million dollars. Yes, 4 mil opening weekend. It kind of scares me to think of what will happen with The Spirit. A comic movie based on a character not known out of the comic community and even in the community... I'd say half the comic readers don't know who he is. Not just that, but Frank Miller is not known as a director, and the hero is an actor I've never heard of. They're marketing it as directed by the creator of Sin City and 300. So yeah... Seeing what happened with Punisher War Journal makes me nervous. A comic movie directed by an unknown starring an Irish man from Rome.

Straight from Dan DiDio's mouth.

Who shall lead Vertigo

Fri, 21 Nov 2008 08:13:00 +0000

Y the Last Man ended earlier this year, and 100 Bullets ends in February. So who is going to be the new flagship for Vertigo? In the past, titles such as Sandman, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, and Y the Last Man have been called the flagship. Now? I'm not so sure. There are lots of great titles, but some I don't think could be it. The oldest book is Hellblazer, but that will never be considered one. Why not? In my opinion, it's because of the revolving door for writers. If ever there was a time it would be flagship worthy, it was when Garth Ennis wrote it. AMAZING stuff. I guess Fables would be the new leader of Vertigo. I love Air, but that series is way too young. DMZ is an amazing series too, but it just seems too political for me to consider it the front runner. Scalped? I want to say yes, and if you love 100 Bullets… This series is a good title to fill that void. It's a weird time at Vertigo, a lot of fresh new titles, but I'm just not sure who the leader of the pact is. I guess I

My latest pull list

Thu, 20 Nov 2008 03:46:00 +0000

Here we are, a new year rolling up on us. Secret Invasion and Final Crisis are almost done, and well... Comics are hitting the $3.99 mark on a more regular basis. So I figured why not share with you what titles I'm reading right now.

two Marvel movies get three writers

Wed, 19 Nov 2008 04:47:00 +0000

So first off... First Avenger: Captain America (a title I hate for many reasons, one being that Captain America wasn't even a founding Avenger) has two writers. They being Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely who did the Narnia movies, and the Peter Seller biopic for HBO years back.

And then there was one… Ultimate title

Tue, 18 Nov 2008 03:18:00 +0000

Well, in Feb... It's the last issue of Ultimate Fantastic Four, and Ultimate X-Men. Don't fear though... Ultimate Spider-Man is still going strong, which also happens to be the only Ultimate title I pick up ever since Millar left Ultimate Fantastic Four and Vaughan left Ultimate X-Men and my wallet's been happy ever since.

I want that!!

I saw this in the DC Feb Solicits:
