Throw the records out the window when rivals meet? Hardly. Saturday’s 75-62 loss to Army confirmed everything we knew about the first part of the 2011-2012 basketball season for the Mids. Hitting perhaps a low point in a ten game skid, Navy’s young players would now do well to apply a lesson from their English class and adopt a new mantra for the year; “to thy own self be true.”

Lehigh's late run defeats Army, 64-45

In a game much closer than the final score indicated, the top seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks (20-10) rallied in the second half to overcome the upset minded eighth seeded Army Black Knights (14-15) in the Patriot League tournament. Lehigh finally prevailed over Army after being knocked out of the tournament three consecutive years by the Black Knights.

It was expected to be a Patriot League battle pitting Army, the best defensive team, against Lafayette one the league's best offensive team. It ended up being a mismatch. However, in the early going Army matched the Leopards bucket for bucket.

On Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena the Army Black Knights (14-12, 4-8 Patriot League) shutdown the high scoring offense of their arch rival the Navy Midshipmen (13-14, 7-5 Patriot League) to win the annual "Star" game for the first time in eight years. In front of a record home crowd, Army forced 21 turnovers and held the potent long-range shooters of Navy to just 1 of 19 from beyond the arc.

American Eagles beat Army Black Knights 57-54 in Bender Arena Wednesday night as a Cleveland Richard three-point jumper hit the rim at the buzzer. Coach Zach Spiker decided to shake up the starting line up as Mitch McDonald, Tyrell Thompson and Jeremy Hence opened the contest. It didn't produce the desired results as Army once again struggled with a slow start that cost them the game.
