Braves general manager John Schuerholz was under the impression he had acquired Barry Bonds, until he returned to Atlanta's Spring Training complex during that morning in 1992, when he learned the agreement he'd made with the Pirates the previous night had been nixed, essentially because of Pittsburgh manager Jim Leyland's irate reaction to the proposed deal.

Braves add veteran Suzuki as backstop insurance

Instead of gambling on the possibility Tyler Flowers will remain healthy enough this season to negate the glaring weakness in their backup-catching department, the Braves made a slight upgrade on Saturday, when they agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Kurt Suzuki. A Major League source confirmed agreement on this deal, which is pending a physical. The team hasn't confirmed the contract.

The baseball world mourned the unexpected deaths of Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura and third baseman Andy Marte on Sunday. Ventura, 25, died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic on Sunday. Marte, 33, also died in a separate car crash Sunday in the Dominican Republic.
