Ausmus earns save for Tigers' bullpen

Thu, 25 May 2017 00:53:05 EDT

Seems like every season the Tigers would construct a team almost good enough to win a championship. There'd be very good starting pitching and a really deep lineup. Problem is, there was always this one teensy problem. In the last four seasons, the Tigers bullpen has been ranked 24th, 27th, 27th and 24th in relief pitching ERA.

Brad Ausmus is sitting Nicholas Castellanos for a couple games. He hopes it has the same impact a few days off did for Justin Upton last season. "We're going to give him a couple days," Ausmus said Wednesday afternoon. "I just want him to kind of hit the reset button and start fresh."

Fulmer has fun taping 'Play Ball' segment

Wed, 24 May 2017 20:40:29 EDT

Mahtook's HR not enough to pick up Zimm

Wed, 24 May 2017 03:24:48 EDT

The Tigers arrived in town around 4 a.m. CT Monday morning, faced the Astros 15 hours later and looked like they might have been sleepwalking against Brad Peacock and the Astros bullpen in a 1-0 loss. Wed, 24 May 2017 01:42:38 EDT

Avila, Ausmus impressed with Gose's arm

Tue, 23 May 2017 20:14:56 EDT

Major League managers and GMs don't normally find themselves talking about 26-year-old pitchers in Class A ball. When the pitcher in question is a left-handed outfielder who throws a 99 mph fastball in his pro pitching debut, though, it's anything but a normal situation.

But the way Avila has swung the bat so far, in what is starting to look like a renaissance season for the 30-year-old, there's no easy way to dispute the manager's decision.
