Mon, 13 Feb 2017 14:38:46 -0800

(image)
Seattle is right to explore options to bring the NBA back to KeyArena. But it shouldn’t lease the venue to developers with no team in sight. First let Chris Hansen’s arena deal in Sodo expire, then wholeheartedly pursue the NBA at a better location such as KeyArena.

A memo to city-council members says a review of an all-private arena proposal from entrepreneur Chris Hansen will take “five to six months” to complete. No council vote can be scheduled until after that, which extends beyond the city’s timeline for making a KeyArena decision.

Gary Payton gets a deserved honor, but it would mean more at a Sonics game

Wed, 08 Feb 2017 22:01:38 -0800

It was a great moment. A poignant moment. One that prompted emotions and memories alike. But it was also a sobering reminder that, sooner than later, this city needs to do that ceremony right.

Concept of Seattle getting a ‘free’ arena is unrealistic, despite private funding

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 19:15:43 -0800

(image)
Getting something for nothing doesn’t exist in professional sports, even with private-funded arena deals such as the one to build a venue in the Sodo District or proposals to renovate KeyArena. Taxpayers inevitably must give these groups something.
