New blog of Poetry and Paintings

October has seen a new beginning for me ..... trying my hand at poetry. Prior to this past week I have only written half a dozen haiku style poems but in the past 8 days I have managed to write several poems in other styles. To celebrate my new passion I have started a new blog where I can post my poetry and 'marry' each piece with one of my paintings as decoration! I hope that my FFF ((image)

A new poem

The way things are There comes a time This much I know When a mind feels like resting And I ain't suggesting That this is wrong - just my way of protesting The way things are Things don't last long This much I know And my mind keeps on saying Stop your crying and praying Don't make no sound - just my way of delaying The way things are There is a way This much I know Be(image)

Letting Go .... a poem

Letting Go This cold, cold earth Last resting place I heard your voice You kissed my face Then all was gone Without a trace In cold, cold earth This hard, hard ground No need for sight For those who lie In this dark night Not to see again The sun, the light In hard, hard ground Yet comes this sound There is a sigh Like wind through trees Or the faintest cry Of a (image)

Re-cycling (old into new yet again!)

Current project is to re-use a painting I am not happy with and turn it into something else. Although I loved the subject of this one (my lovely youngest daughter with her baby son) I just could not get a good likeness of her face and it did not do her justice. So out with the white gesso and she disappeared (sorry Mel), presenting me with a nice blank canvas. I had added texture prior to(image)

A Reversal and a Commendation!

I decided that I liked "Patina" better turned the other way up then entered it into the Otago Art Society Spring Exhibition. I see on their website that I have received a Commendation!! Very satisfying. (image)

Finished all but varnishing and title!

New work in progress ..... slow job!!

At last I have a painting on the go!  I would have preferred to do it in pastel but the costs of mounting and framing are so high that, without a commission,  I have chosen to work in acrylic on canvas. Quite a long way to go before it is finished! (image)

Congratulations to My Golden Grand-daughter!

The jewellery judge Kath Libbert wrote:“What a treat to be introduced to Naomi Nevill’s wonderfully vibrant world of lustrous enamel jewellery all executed with supreme skill. I love her confident use of colour, the range of ways she makes use of enamelling, for instance her intricate shimmering cloisonné work, the variety of compositions she creates, from the detailed geometric patterns in(image)

SOLD and Off to a good home!!

'Citronella' 'Go Figure' An ex-neighbour of mine from the North Island contacted me at the weekend to buy 'Citronella' and has since added 'Go Figure' to her purchase. I am so glad that they are going to someone I know, and I am also very glad that I kept going with 'Go Figure' and got it finished. Posting one off to her tomorrow and the other will follow once I have completed varnishing.Happy(image)

On my easel ......... for ages!!

'Go figure'   (Acrylic on wrapped canvas) Well, I've at least I'm painting again, although this painting has been on my easel for weeks (if not months).  It is one of those where the initial work was fun and exciting but then ......... MIND BLOCK!  However, I have played around until now I feel that is is just about finished. And to be frank I am rather sick and tired of it!!!(image)

Naomi Nevill - following in her g-g-g-grandfathers' footsteps?

Here is my talented grand-daughter Naomi Nevill's website where you can see some of her jewelry and design processes. Interestingly, two of her maternal great-great-great-grandfathers were goldsmiths/jewelry makers in London in 1800's - their names were Herbert Sparks and Jean Adolphus Leeuw, each having their own business/workshop. At 23 Naomi is already an award winner! Last year she won a (image)

Pastel, Paint or Poetry?

As nothing seems to be happening on the pastel or paint front these days, perhaps a try at poetry might be a partial answer to this current lack of creativity! Where is she, the me I used to be? Fading, shredding, wafting free in ragged pieces, desperately spinning, shrinking, hard to see. Pretending, as things become less clear, that nothing's wrong, I am still here? (image)

New abstract .... and about time!

On my easel .... been there for so long waiting to be finished that a spider had taken up residence!  But I think it is just about done ..... (image)

Fresh off my easel ....

It is not often that I complete a painting in one day .... in fact I cannot remember the last time I did so. But yesterday I told myself that I really must try and get out of the impasse I have been in recently and DO something!I have always loved working on dark grounds, especially black paper or black canvas. Having tried soft pastel on paper and oil pastel on canvas, this time I decided to (image)

It is so nice to sell a painting ..........

'Reef'  (Acrylic on canvas, 36cms x 46cms) Yesterday I was thrilled when someone from our village stated her interest in one of my paintings, and we were able to negotiate a price that suited us both. It is a painting that I have always felt immense satisfaction with, although it has never attracted a buyer before whenever it has been shown publicly! It was painted 7 years ago. I (image)

Artists who inspire ....... Nicholas Simmons

If I have written about artist Nicholas Simmons before then I am NOT going to apologise ...... for the simple reason that he is someone I admire very much and whose work just lifts my spirits! If you have never seen any his paintings then you have missed a treat and I urge you to take time to view them on his website. To get a feel of who he is, his ideas about painting and his techniques (image)
