It’s an interesting exercise to casually check out compadres, and see what they are projecting in their mens dress clothing choices. Some archetypes: Intellectual elite — some things never change, and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an “intellectual” (real, or of the pseudo variety) that wasn’t doing the nobby oversized sweater, corduroy pants thing. It’s like a uniform, and for real dress-up add the blazer with leather elbow patches. Business cool — a variation of business casual. The occasion called for relatively conservative attire, and this guy stepped out, just a hair — cuffing the plaid shirt mid-forearm (I don’t know how he was able to do this with his over-sized cufflinks still in place — but, made me look!) Ignorance of youth — as always, some fresh out of school youth looking purposelessly tousled and unkempt, absolute mens dress clothing cluelessness. Guys, mom’s not around to iron your shirts anymore, and that’s why God invented professional launderers! It’s a couple bucks, drop the daily latte and get your shirts pressed! Hopefully, you know your archetype, and it reflects who you are (or are striving to be). Before you go out for your next social event, just take a quick glance in the mirror and see yourself as if for the first time. Are your mens dress clothing options saying what you want them to say about who you are? Meaningful Mens Gifts, Beyond the Tie! The writer of a wonderful blog site Art of Manliness, has put together some great lists of books. They’re a great jumping off point to find just the right books for men and boys on your list. The Gift of Books – For Men 2. A “man bag” (aka, a “not your father’s briefcase) — don’t freak out, the “man bag” I’m suggesting is more a cross between a travel bag and a briefcase (the over-the-shoulder messenger bag just doesn’t do it for me, yet…) Yes, this one is more the multi-generational, pass it down to the eldest child quality, but, you get the picture. 3. A cool winter scarf. Keep it relatively conservative, and make sure it’s comfy (scratchy but stylish would not be cool). Besides being brilliantly practical in the cool weather, it also adds a dash of color and panache. 4. Pocket Squares (otherwise known as handkerchiefs and pocket silks) — A great stocking stuffer or “add-on” gift, and always welcome for the mens dress clothing afficionado! Pocket squares are back in a big way, whether “dressed down” in cotton or unfinished edges, or classic silk. So, there, no reason for “yet another tie” this gift-giving season — with a little thought, you can make the traditional holiday gift-giving more meaningful than ever. Social Bookmarking[...]

Boots are being worn with more than just jeans, making them a versatile addition to the mens dress clothing wardrobe, too. You’ll seem them under khakis in business casual, and in almost any ensemble involving a blazer — outside of white shirt and silk tie, boots are becoming an approved look. When you’re considering your boot purchase, it is all about quality. Invest in high-quality, well-made boots — a good set of boots should last at least a decade, and will quickly become a favorite choice in your mens dress clothing wardrobe. Don’t get too caught up in trendy, or a current “look” that become the rage. Boots are a safe secure bastion for your personal expression. Have a secret biker side? Go for it! More the hiker, or cowboy, or street punk in your “who would I be if I didn’t have to work for a living” scenario? Do that! It’s a great idea to carry a piece of your dream world with you, wherever you are, whenever possible — you need to keep in mind what you REALLY want, right? Use boots in your mens dress clothing wardrobe to add an extra dimension to your outfits. Make them an expression of your inner passions, get them as comfortable as good times with your best friends, and you’ll find they’ll become almost like a trusty companion. The fashion rules for mens dress clothing are loosening up — take advantage, and wear what you love, as often as you can. On-line Shopping For Mens Dress Clothing There are SO many, more interesting, things to do than head out to the mall to shop for mens dress clothing — fantasy football updates, maybe some hoops with the guys, even work sounds more enticing, right? And therein lies the beauty of shopping on-line — you’re on the internet anyhow, figure out what items [...] There are SO many, more interesting, things to do than head out to the mall to shop for mens dress clothing — fantasy football updates, maybe some hoops with the guys, even work sounds more enticing, right? And therein lies the beauty of shopping on-line — you’re on the internet anyhow, figure out what items you need to add (in line with your monthly budget, of course), and let your fingers do the shopping. What to look for in mens dress clothing on-line stores? Most importantly, an air tight return policy! The truth is, every designer line is going to be cut a little different, unless it’s a repeat buy, you need to order your size, and likely one size up and one size down initially, and plan on returning two of the three. Frankly, it’s not a lot different than what you’d do at the store, except, you don’t have to participate in the whole mall experience thing, replete with the joys of mall traffic and parking, sometimes overly-eager salespeople, and the time it takes to travel between stores to compare prices (yes, you must become savvy consumer and become confident that you’re paying a fair price for the quality you’re purchasing). What if you don’t have an “off the rack” body?  Two choices, (neither of which is an on-line experience, but a necessity) — you can either go the custom route, by far the ultimate goal, but a sometimes five or even ten-fold increase in price over “off the rack” purchases, or invest in some minor, quality alterations.  You can either find your own, independent tailor or seamstress (which sometimes takes some trial and error), or, some on-line stores also have numerous retail outlets nationwide offering quality, reasonably-priced alterations with a quick trun-around. Bottom line, on-line shopping for your mens dress clothing wardrobe makes the “front-end” aspect painless, and almost fun if you understand and are prepared for the process. (image)
Shirts start your “look” in mens dress clothing Dress shirts are the staple for the mens dress clothing wardrobe, and here’s where you can really start making your personal, daily statement — it’s a great exercise to start every morning by asking yourself, who do I want to be today, what “look” suits my mood, makes me feel great? Sure, many days you’re going to have some requirements you’re going to have to work within — maybe you’ve got a meeting which is going to require a tie, or the opposite extreme, maybe it’s moving day to the corner office! Make sure you are continually adding to your mens dress clothing shirt collection, so that you always have a perfect choice, every day. (image) (image) Some key essentials, ALWAYS have at least two crisp, elegant white dress shirts on hand. There is no look more classic than the fresh white shirt with blazer or suit. Another advantage, it makes choosing a tie (if desired) that much easier — you’ll only have to match the tie to the coat and pants. If the venue is suitable for sans tie, open necked and cuffed is a great way to wear a shirt with casual slacks or even jeans. DO experiment with colors and seasonal influences. Colors can be a bit tricky, not everyone can wear brights or neons, but do add subtle colors — sea green, pale blue, maybe even lavender depending on your skin tone and your coat/trousers. If in doubt, ask someone whom you consider to be a good dresser until you have a good sense of what works for you! Seasonal influences fluctuate somewhat — winter/fall you’ll see more plaids, spring summer usually brings experimentations with differing sleeve lengths (look for sleeveless this summer!), but for the most versatility, it’s best to stick with long sleeves in plain, stripes and subtle plaids until your mens dress clothing wardrobe is filled out with the basics. So, what are you waiting for? Figure out how much of your mens dress clothing monthly budget you have left, and look for a new dress shirt to add! (image)

(image) (image) The beauty and sensuousness of leather are add-on benefits, the real value of leather is its durability. A well-maintained leather garment is something that can be handed down to generations, like fine wine, becoming more distinctive with age. If you decide this season to add leather outerwear to your mens dress clothing wardrobe (great for gift-giving, too!), make not of some tips to care for it. Keep it clean — leather needs to be periodically cleaned, but in an entirely different manner than other materials. The goal in cleaning is not to remove the natural oils or leave additional deposits. Make sure to try any new product in a hidden area before applying generally, to make sure it doesn’t change the leather’s color, or leave a greasy residue. An excellent option for general cleaning is a nubuck cleaning cloth, a great all-in-one cleaning product. Keep it protected — this is a little controversial, there’s no question moisture-barrier products fill in the pores to some extent, making cleaning and conditioning a little more difficult, but, the trade-off is a longer “like new” look. Some of the lightweight waterproofing products are designed specifically for garments, but do need to be re-applied periodically. Keep it (relatively) dry — leather can stand up to the elements just fine, HOWEVER, to avoid staining, make sure to thoroughly clean your jacket as described above, and dry away from any heat source, to avoid cracking. Keep it breathing — when the warm weather returns, make sure to keep the leather breathing, NEVER store in plastic. Without air circulation, the pores in the material can retain water and become a festering ground for mildew, bacteria and other types of grossness. Consider a leather addition to your mens dress clothing wardrobe this season! (image)

[...] The very cool thing about layering your mens dress clothing wardrobe is versatility; you can get a lot of different looks from the same pieces — kind of the adult version of garanimals. For everything from business casual to weekend wear with jeans, the classic dark colored blazer provides the ultimate versatility for mens dress clothing. Here’s some suggestions on mixing it up for some updated looks. (image) (image) 1) Add plaid! A splash of color is a great way to stand out, so pair that blazer with an plaid long sleeve shirt. 2) Cardigans are back! Not your dad’s cardigan, but a new deeper V-neck design is a great look paired with a blazer (added benefit — warmth). The deeper v-neck also makes what’s underneath the cardigan more visible, and nothing’s cooler than a James Dean-like T-shirt. 3) Sweaters — the texture of a sweater is as much of the appeal here as is the color pattern. There are so many sweater options out there, but sticking with the classics, like a neutral-colored cable knit, is the best bet when starting out. Also, don’t forget to consider body-type — a bulky sweater on a bulky body is difficult to pull off successfully. Now for the bottom half: 3) Jeans — yes, distressed is back, but, best not to get too carried away, though, “bad boy” jeans won’t be wearable on as many occasions as “smartly worn.” Do find jeans which suit your body type, skin-tight jeans might be all the rage in Europe, but don’t really suit a sturdy body. 4) Flat front khakis — great for business casual occasions, just a bit of an update from the traditional pleat front. Preferred color combos — navy jacket go with beige, black jacket try a muted khaki green. Final tip, make sure your fall/winter mens dress clothing blazer is a tad oversized to accommodate that bulky sweater or cardigan combo. (image)

Shop Men's Wearhouse Today!(image) (image) Do set a budget. This economy is the new normal, right? Money Management International says four percent of your income should be spent on clothes.  That might not sound like a lot if you’re just looking at this paycheck, but look at it annually. Even if your take home pay is only $21,000, you should be able to afford $840 for mens dress clothing and other essentials — that’s $420 for fall/winter and the same for spring summer! Obviously, you can’t build a full wardrobe in one season if you’re on a tight budget, so start with your basic three season light wool suit in a neutral color, a sport coat and trousers, shirts, belt and dress shoes. And, yes you CAN put it together on a seasonal budget as low as $420 — be selective about where you shop, but buy the best quality you can afford. Another must, ONLY buy items that fit well and make you feel terrific. It is pointless wearing anything that fits poorly — the opposite of swank is skank, which is what too tight or poorly proportioned clothes will make you look like! And as much as shopping is a pain in the ass, let your fingers do the work — on-line is relatively painless, and most quality retailers have easy exchange policies if it looked better on the model than it does on you. So, start now! Figure your four percent, and begin or add to your mens dress clothing wardrobe today. Take the pain out of it by check out on-line stores! (image)

Mens dress clothing Men's Style Guide: Accessories For Winter Posted By: Hendrik Pohl As it always is in the world of fashion, every new season brings with it a whole collection of styles that the mens fashion industry insists you should have. This yearâs winter is no different. Although youâre not exactly forced to dispose of every last shirt or necktie from last spring, there are certain pieces that youâll definitely want to consider getting. Chosen properly, theyâre the kind of accessories that youâll be using long after the snow melts.Style SquaredIn the seasons leading up to this one, menâs fashion has seen more than its fair share of bags and accessories that took every definition of âslouchyâ and ârelaxedâ. This season, youâd better remember how to do that four-in-hand on your necktie because the sharply dressed sophisticate is coming back big time.Bohemian and artisanal bags are slowly getting replaced by more businesslike options such as briefcases and hard luggage. Even duffels and carry-alls are getting structure in them with the help of a hard frame and a bottom shaper. The adherence to the definite form and structure of the bag has been a concept in menâs fashion since time immemorial, and hearkens to a time when everything a respectable gentleman owned was bespoke.Of course, you canât just leave the style to just your framed bags and well shaped shoes. Youâve got to have the outfit to match, and that calls for something equally sharp like a three-piece suit or a power tie. You donât exactly have to look like some power monger while youâre at it, but thatâs the effect many want from this kind of accessory anyway.Croc CommandmentTexture rarely loses its value. After all, menâs fashion is a rather restricted field; pieces like knit neckties and tweed suits are a rarity because they manage to have texture while remaining masculine at the same time. This season, the best accessories that strike that same kind of balance are croc everything - croc bags, watch straps, belts and shoes. No, this doesnât require you to pay for the skin of some endangered reptile. Now that real croc skin is scarce (and illegal in many cases), many menâs fashion labels have come out with embossed versions that use regular leather stamped with a croc pattern. Since youâre going for this trend for just the texture anyway, a stamped croc piece should fit the bill.Countless leather items look great in croc. Belts, wallets, bags and watch straps all look so much more luxurious when stamped with that famous crocodile skin pattern. What you should know about getting on with this trend, though, is that you should never wear more than a couple of accessories in croc. You want to appear rich and sophisticated, not as if youâre some pimp or mafia boss.Seeing StripesEvery now and then, the menâs fashion industry gets a liking for stripes. Look around in any shopping mall right now and youâll see that quite a few retailers have the lot from Repp stripe ties to striped shirts. Itâs a trend worth carrying over to your accessories, too.Numerous menâs fashion brands now carry a whole gamut of striped accessories, from a striped fabric watch strap at J. Crew to one-off duffel bags with bright racing stripes from Todâs. Theyâre not exactly the most formal of pieces, but they can give your most boring outfits a bit of a style update without changing too much. In accessories, the value of the stripe isnât its horizontal or vertical pattern, but rather the contrast it provides in the piece.Since your style selection is most probably comprised largely of white shirts and silk ties, accessories always provide an easily changeable point of interest in any outfit. Whether you have a plain office ensemble or an over the top couture asse[...]
Mens dress clothing Men's Style Conundrums: Cuffed Pants Posted By: Hendrik Pohl Very often in menâs fashion, youâll be forced to choose between theory and tradition, as in the case of cuffed pants. In theory, cuffed pants are supposed to look dated, and should be avoided whenever possible. In traditional practice - here meaning it was your dad who introduced the habit - itâs fairly common. Should you leave the house with cuffed pants?Perspective on PantsIdeally, your pants are exactly the length you need them to be. That is, itâs the ideal case with formal pants; cuffed pants are seen at the office at best, and rarely to evening galas and black tie affairs. For casual pants like chinos and jeans, cuffs are an entirely different ball game to play.Thereâs still something to be said for that perfect pair of jeans or chinos that are just the right length, but the cuffed style is much more acceptable once youâve gone into casual fashion territory. While the lack of a cuff creates a very sharp and put-together image, a cuff inspires more laid back, even rakish vibe. Itâs your way of telling the world that you do things your way and you like being comfortable - all through your clothes. And that sentiment does translate through cuffed jeans and chinos. You show others that you like being comfortable no matter what, and that you wear your clothes instead of them wearing you. There is, however, just a thin line dividing pants that look cool when rolled up and a pair that you should have brought to the tailor in the first place.Commandeering Cuffed StyleFirst things first: a pants cuff - as with anything in menâs fashion - looks best when itâs done proportionally to your body. Yes, itâs still a measurement game, even with an aspect as seemingly insignificant as your cuffs. Pants cuffs go anywhere from three quarters of an inch to an inch and a half in thickness, with two inches as the maximum âsafeâ length. Anything more will have length-altering effects on your body because itâll be too thick. Two is the ideal number of folds for a cuff, the first to define the size and the second to secure the first in place. You donât have to bring out a ruler for exact measurements; the tip of your thumb to the first joint is usually a good rule of thumb. Once youâve done the second fold, press the folds if youâre wearing denim and scrunch it up for chinos. And never, ever fold inward; such faux pas was left behind in the 1990âs. Fold them outward. As if the fabric wasnât enough of a clue, cuffed casual pants like denims and chinos are even less formal than their straightened selves. That means youâll have to pair them with other pieces - shoes in particular - that are just as casual as they are. And no, mixing and matching usually doesnât turn out well in this case.Slightly wrinkled white shirts are already the most formal you could get with this style, and a necktie is definitely out of the question when youâre wearing cuffed casual. Heck, wear a casual tee with the pants. Shoes should be something casual like sneakers (but not athletic shoes) or maybe even sandals. Leather is a no-no, and a canvas boat shoe is about as âformalâ as you should get here.Must you wear cuffed pants? Itâs allowable, yes, but not a recommended 24/7 fashion statement. Itâs also a style that should be done only with premium or high quality pants. Looking laid back and relaxed need never become associated with looking cheap, and cuffed pants literally roll over and let everyone see what youâre wearing. mens dress clothing mens designer jackets menâs dress clothing Pohl is a writer about mens fashion dress codes and styles. Mens dress clothing Men's Style Conundrums: Vests Posted By: Hendrik Pohl Itâs a fashion question that countless men have asked in the past: should you wear a vest? Yes, vests are acceptable even when youâre not wearing one with the whole three-piece suit shebang. A layered look with a vest, however, occupies its own special place on the scale of formality. Wearing a vest per se is no style faux pas right now, but wearing the vested look to the wrong occasion most definitely is, regardless of the time period.Whatâs in a Vest?At the very core of it, the vest is a formal item, something you add to an outfit in order to dress it up. Notice how a three-piece suit - the holiest of holies in office fashion - ranks a notch higher than the regular two-piece variety that most men wear. And in that case, itâs the vest that makes the difference. Yet the vest alone isnât much. Itâs like wearing a necktie without wearing a suit jacket; you donât realize its fullest potential in terms of formalness when you don it alone and without the companion pieces of the set. For vests, wearing one as is will definitely dress up your current look, but the result will be less formal than any ensemble that includes a suit jacket. Suit jackets have much more weight than vests in the world of menâs fashion.Should you elect to don a vest, see to it that the occasion is casual and does not demand for office formal; any situation that demands any version of âformalâ requires one or some other version of a jacket. Unless your office has a very lax dress code, wearing a vest by itself will most likely offend some fashion sensibilities there. Reserve the vested style for more casual times such as dinner out with friends or Casual Fridays.Vested InterestsIf youâre one of those people who compartmentalize style pieces into âcasualâ and âformalâ categories, vests fall squarely into that latter category. The easiest and safest way to wear a vest, therefore, is with other items that come from that same group; mix and match is a slightly more advanced trick of the trade.Modern menâs fashion encompasses an extremely wide variety of vests from traditional solids to more contemporary fashions. A vest can be somewhat tricky to wear as it gets more prints and patterns, so a black, gray or navy vest in a classic suiting fabric will give you the most mileage. Of course, you shouldnât eliminate patterns altogether either; you could start with a simple check using any one of the aforementioned colors as a base. One fail-safe way to style a vest is to wear it over a crisp white shirt. Not only does the shirt come from a similar level of formality, but the simplicity of the solid color is one of the most universal and wearable in all of menâs fashion. Regardless of the pattern or print of the vest, youâve got a solid outfit right there. Just pair it with a freshly pressed pair of pants - dark denims or black slacks preferred - and youâre good to go.You could also notch the formal factor up simply by adding a tie. Neckties are easiest to work with, not least because you probably have a fair number of options in your closet already. Have the tie contrast with the vest: patterned tie for solid vest and vice versa. A more sartorial choice, however, would be the bow tie, especially now that patterned bow ties are emerging as quite the trend in menâs fashion.Should you wear a vest? Itâs not a style that works for every man out there, but you must definitely try to do so. Just learn what to pair with the look and where to actually wear it, and youâll look that much more dapper than the vest-less man standing next to you. mens dress clothing menâs dress clothing menâs dress clothing Hendrik is a regular writer[...]
Mens dress clothing Men's Style Conundrums: Graphic Tees Posted By: Hendrik Pohl Non-plain t-shirts are an age-old fashion minefield for many men. Solid crew neck and plain wifebeater shirts are known as pieces that you can wear with anything, but add print to the equation and youâll be in a completely different ball game. Some would say that no man over the age of 20 should be seen in a graphic tee, while others claim that itâs a valid way to exhibit a rebellious streak. Which one better follows the edicts of modern style? The Graphic CrowdItâs true what the menâs fashion pundits say about graphic tees being largely restricted to the younger generation. Thatâs why you usually see those styles of tops on 20-something musicians and the kids who follow them. But you donât necessarily have to be in the rock and roll crowd - or even the music scene, for that matter - to carry a graphic tee.On the other side of the coin, itâs also not so hot for men about to face their midlife crises to be wearing Metallica t-shirts and the like. Thereâs definitely an age limit to this kind of fashion, and youâve gone over that threshold once you hit your thirties. You can, however, rock graphics until well into your late twenties. Why should teenagers have all the fun? There are two things you should know about graphic tees. First is that theyâre nowhere near formal. Unless you plan to spend the evening at home or with friends who share an interest in your graphic tee, wearing it might not be a good idea. Second, donât expect to be treated like a full-on adult, especially since youâre not dressed as one anyway. Graphic tees, as the rest of fashion so often does, tends to influence your image to other people.Going GraphicShould your circumstances be appropriate for wearing graphic tees - that is, youâre fairly young and youâre going someplace that doesnât require any degree of formal fashion - actually making the style look good isnât so hard. Itâs mostly about keeping in mind what graphic tees are all about and wearing pieces that go with that kind of aesthetic.Denims are the most versatile style pieces that you could throw on with a graphic tee, especially if the graphic is text or some character, as in from shows or video games. The simplicity and ubiquity of the denim keeps the focus on your shirt. If you want to dress your look up just a wee bit, though, try adding a jacket or a sport coat. This works pretty well for shirts whose graphic is centered smack in the middle of the trunk.Other graphics - geometric, color blocked and abstract ones in particular - can be given an extra dose of eclectic style by pairing them up with other accessories. Adding a fedora or a necktie to an abstract or geometric graphic shirt gives a cheeky touch an otherwise traditional combination of shirt and tie. Take note, though, that the look only works for casual events like parties, even when youâve got a necktie or a hat in there. mens dress clothing menâs dress clothing menâs dress clothing Hendrik is a regular writer with articles on mens fashion and style.
