Write for us: calling on the Textpattern spirit

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 10:04:59 +0000

Do you have something to say about Textpattern? Why you like it. What you’ve done with it. What it does for you or your clients. Why you keep coming back to it? Do you want to rally the troops for a cause? Organise a meetup? Report on something Textpattern-related: the community spirit; the speed; the power; the flexibility; its lightweight nature; its yellowness…

We’re giving you a platform to talk about it on centre stage: the textpattern.com blog (which will be renamed appropriately as the .com site is revamped).

Traditionally the blog has been for developers to (often sporadically) post about the project. That has changed as of this week. We now accept English guest entries from anyone who wishes to write about the project. Two people — Pete Cooper and Destry Wion — have published there already. You could be next.

As a helpful starter, there’s a blog template available on Google Drive, with simple instructions on how to use it to format your creation. Copy it, then Just Write, and share the finished article with one of the devs. We’ll review it and work with you to refine it if necessary — mainly to ensure it fits within the editorial style guidelines or isn’t slanderous! — then publish it when both parties have agreed.

When more contributions appear and the site revamp kicks in, we’ll alter things to make it possible to link to a list of your published content. Maybe even give you a bio page alongside, who knows.

Within reason, there’s no minimum or maximum word limit so please take this opportunity to share your thoughts on Textpattern whenever the mood strikes. If you need inspiration, please see my posts highlighting some of things you might like to write about and writing honestly for more impact. From now on, if ever there’s little activity in the blog, you can do something about it!

Thank you, and we look forward to your creations.

What is this "You've been banned." message? Our apologies.

Tue, 24 Dec 2013 21:40:33 +0000

For the last 24 hours you might have seen a “You’ve been banned” message when you’ve tried to post something on the forums. Don’t worry, none of you were actually banned or specifically targeted.

Yesterday, one of our admins accidentally banned all of us from the forum by IP. This wasn’t intentional, but an accident that went unnoticed.

It happens to be that all verified users have the same IP, or put better, no IP at all. Once your account is verified, we stop collecting your IP addresses; we have no reason to. What this really means, is that the server sees all verified user’s coming from IP ’0.0.0.0’.

Now, one of the admins used the FluxBB’s automated banning tool without realizing that it actually bans by IP and email, while blacklisting the username. When you ‘ban an user’ in FluxBB it pre-fills an other form where you can input details for the ban (i.e. email, username, IPs). The pre-filled IP was that shared ’0.0.0.0’, and once the details were saved, we all were banned from the forum.

I want to apologize and for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Sincerely,
Jukka Svahn
