Anyone else get juked by Revolution Health?

Wed, 01 Aug 2007 03:43:42 +0000

Hi, anyone else participate in the Revolution Health focus group, which was advertised in a newsletter here? I thought I'd give up a couple of hours of my Chicago time to earn $200 for some fun money.

Alas, the cashier's check they gave me was not signed, and they handed me the stub. I took it to Citibank on Monday and they would not honor mine or my friends because of this. I have emailed the focus group leader, Dana, and she has not replied. Anyone else have or resolve this problem? I admit that I never deal with cashier checks, and they told us we were all set when they handed them over at the end.

got a vanity to toss on the bonfire?

Wed, 25 Jul 2007 13:06:48 +0000

Below is an excerpt of my post about conference jitter-induced primping. As a first-timer, it takes the edge off my own jitters to hear that others, even "old-timers" are going through the same. I cited a few vanity table confessions. I'd love to hear yours.

Hear that? A high pitched buzz, audible only to women? It is the sound of leg waxing, hair coloring, spray tanning, teeth whitening, protein shake swilling and bathroom scale groaning. It is a constant sound—like the noise emitted by florescent lights—but if there were a way to measure it, you would see a pronounced spike this week emanating from the internet.

You would stand over the readout, and ponder the cause. You would trace and isolate specific samples of it:

You would begin to notice something. A common denominator.

you can read the full post here, but I hope you'll come back and share right here.

Why Grandma's Should Not Slip and Slide with Grandkids before BlogHer Conference

Mon, 23 Jul 2007 21:40:22 +0000

This weekend I babysat for three of my five grandkids. My 7 year old granddaughter was so excited we had borrowed a slip and slide for the kids to play on during their overnight visit to Grama's house.

My 6 year old grandson and two year granddaughter were not at all interested after much preparation setting the darn thing up on my sloping front lawn, perfect for slip and sliding. My granddaughter had fantasies of racing her brother and sister all afternoon down the slip and slide and was pouting at the idea of her big plan was not going as she had GRANDMA (silly me), could not take her sad face and decided to be a pal and race her on the slip and slide myself!

Try 1- 4 went Okay. She easily won because I was a too heavy to slide like a pro as in my youth. p.s. I did not read the directions which says right on it, "Up to 10 years old". There is a reason for this warning and I found out the hard way!

Now the visuals here have got to make one wonder WHAT I was thinking...slightly overweight middle aged Grandma slip and sliding on the front lawn of her suburban home in broad daylight. You must know I adore those grandkids and am willing to make a total fool to make them smile!

On race five I really wanted to get up some speed and was having a blast TW. I took a running start and BAM, hit my knee cap on a slightly buried root in my lawn about halfway down. I thought I had broken my knee cap. I could not get up, was in #10 pain, totally embarrassed and needed to call for assistance to get back on my feet and inside. My grandkids looking on in horror!

I will be slightly limping only during the BlogHer conference in Chicago, thank God. I spent the rest of Sunday icing my knee and although very sore I think I am going to be fine.

Guess the lesson here is:

Grandma's Should Not Slip and Slide with the Grandkids before the BlogHer Conference.

Look forward to seeing you all this week at BlogHer!

Latecomer looking for a room

Mon, 23 Jul 2007 17:05:17 +0000

Anybody else late?? I'm looking for a room to share. I'll be in Chicago early Friday morning - wish I had known the hotel rates would be so pricey! Oh and I'm staying through Sunday.

Room to Share at City Centre Thursday Night

Fri, 20 Jul 2007 16:40:02 +0000

At the last minute, I decided to come a day early so I've got a room (with roommate) at the W on Friday and Saturday but Thursday, I'm at CC with 2 beds but no roomie. Any takers?

Also, coming into O'Hare around 2 p.m. - anyone want to share a cab to CC?

Cab share early sunday morning to O'Hare

Thu, 19 Jul 2007 14:53:08 +0000

I will be staying at The W and my flight is at 8:05 am Sunday morning (yuck, I know). I assume this means I will need to leave the hotel by 5:30 am. If anyone is as unfortunate as me to have to leave at that time and is also staying at The W and would like to share a cab with me.. please let me know.

BlogHer Con Queers? Calling GLBT Conference Attendees

Thu, 19 Jul 2007 13:16:03 +0000

Last year, there were GLBT attendees and speakers, but some attendees had difficulty finding them. (too many women screwing with the gaydar maybe?)

This year, there will be GLBT attendess and speakers, as well. We are there! We may not be speaking primarily about GLBT issues or GLBT identity or GLBT blogging - but we will be there.

I'll make sure there is a GLBT birds of a feather list so those who want to gather with the "family" can do so. (If there is another BoF group you'd rather join, please don't feel like you're being pressured to skip it and stick with your queer tribe - I certainly skipped out on the gay folk last year and joined the Edubloggers because that's what I was really interested in doing)

What else can we do or should we do to make ourselves visible and available? Your thoughts and ideas are welcome.

And please, if you identify GLBTQ or poly for that matter, post a comment here. (But only if you're OUT and comfortable claiming your orientation online - no pressure!)

Room Available If Needed

Thu, 19 Jul 2007 03:40:28 +0000

My sister and I have a hotel room booked with two double beds. If there is anyone out there who really needs a place to stay - we would be willing to share and let someone else have the other bed:) We have the room from Thursday to Sunday morning and with three people - it would be $20/night.

It is 30 minutes from the Pier but roomies can catch a ride with us if needed of course, lol:)

Might Sound Stupid

Wed, 18 Jul 2007 18:22:45 +0000

What time do you guys think we should be there at the latest on Friday? I'm chronically late, so if anyone who has been to previous BlogHer conferences can advise if the stuff generally starts on time, etc.
