Be part of a team that develops for the Library Application Development service as part of Academic Technology’s Learning Solutions group with the Department of Information Technology (DoIT). The service works as an embedded partner with the Library Shared Development Group and the Library Technology Group at the UW-Madison Libraries to create, integrate, and support campus-wide library integrations. The service seeks to provide end-to-end application development, integration, and support in the library system domain and to work with the Libraries to help shape their IT environment and strategic directions. The service comprises software developers, Library partners, and a service lead.

This position serves as a primary software developer for creating new applications as well as developing and providing support for the library hosted services environment. The developer in this position will engage with both vendor-provided systems and open source applications. Common programming languages used include Java, Ruby, XML/XSLT, shell scripting, SQL, SPARQL and frameworks including Ruby on Rails, Spring, and REST web services.

  • Partner with Product Leads and SW Engineers to establish design requirements, provide implementation guidance and oversee the quality of the product UI.
  • Work to develop visual design outputs such as moodboards, style tiles, screen and component design as well as content design.

Key skills and experience required:

  • A good eye for visual design and ability to craft products that are aesthetically pleasing as well as functional and intuitive.
  • Core UX design skills in interaction and visual design
  • Planning experience; able to craft design approaches.
