HP's DreamColor Z27x G2 is the 'world's most advanced color critical display'

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 04:01:00 Z

Credit: HP In addition to the new lineup of powerful HP ZBook laptops for power users and creative professionals, HP also revealed a gorgeous new 27-inch DreamColor display that photo and video editors will want to seriously consider purchasing. Why? Because HP claims this display—officially named the HP DreamColor Z27x G2—is the "world's most advanced color critical display." That might sound like hyperbole, and it's definitely PR speak, but the specs back up the claim. The display was supposedly designed in conjunction with "leading visual effects studios" to make sure all of the most important specs and features were onboard. Spec-wise, the 27-inch Quad HD 2560 ×1440 16:9 aspect ratio IPS panel covers 98% of Adobe RGB, 99% of DCI-P3 and 100% of sRGB (duh) at a respectable static contrast ratio of 1500:1. So far, so good; but what really makes it stand out are the features. The Z27x G2 comes equipped with an integrated pop-up sensor that calibrates your display on demand or on a regular schedule, and features "the world’s first integrated keyboard-based input switching KVM to easily switch between devices." Here's a closer look at the DreamColor Z27x G2: Step aside Microsoft, because HP just released a monstrous 'detachable PC workstation' that can compete with powerful laptops like the Surface Book 2 released yesterday... but in a form factor that looks more like a Surface Pro. Meet the HP ZBook x2: the so-called "world's most powerful and first detachable PC workstation." In HP's own words, this computer "was designed to solve the performance and mobility needs of artists, designers and digital imaging professionals who need to push Adobe Creative Cloud and other professional applications to the limit." So what makes this computer more capable than HPs other two-in one solutions: the HP Spectre x2 and HP Elite x2. In a word: performance. While previous two-in-one iterations with these kinds of specs put most of the components—the main CPU, GPU, etc—into the base unit, the HP ZBook x2 flips the script. The bluetooth keyboard is basically just that: a bluetooth keyboard; even when the tablet is detached completely it maintains the full performance from its CPU and GPUs. Think of it like a Surface Pro dressed up to star in the next Iron Man movie. Spec-wise, the HP ZBook x2 can be configured with 8th Gen Intel Core i7 graphics, a discreet NVIDIA Quadro M620 graphics card with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory, up to 2TB of local PCIe SSD storage, and up to 32GB of RAM. All of this sits behind a 14-inch 4K multi-touch screen with optional 10- bit, one-billion color HP DreamColor display that's been calibrated 100 percent of Adobe RGB. The computer can be used in four different modes: Laptop Mode: attached to the bluetooth keyboard. Detached Mode: Use the tablet with the new HP pen, while still having full access to your Bluetooth keyboard shortcuts off to the side. Docked Mode: Using the ZBook Dock, the x2 can power two additional 4K displays or five total displays. Tablet Mode: totally detached and disconnected from the keyboard, the x2 maintains full graphics performance. In most modes, you'll want to use the ZBook x2 with the new battery-free HP pen, which is based on Wacom EMR technology and offers 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity with multi-directional tilt capabilities and a dedicated eraser. And when it's docked and powering two 4K displays, the setup can look pretty ... intense: In short, the ZBook x2 is trying to be all things to professional creatives and designers. Instead of using some combination of laptop, iPad, and Wacom tablet, you can replace all of them (ostensibly) with one ZBook x2. And since it was designed in collaboration with Adobe, you can bet Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere, and other powerful CC apps will work exceptionally well. To learn more about the HP ZBook x2, head over to HP's website. The new 'detachable workstation' will go on sale in December and starts at $1,750 for the base model with a dual core 7th generation Intel Core[...]

Canon introduces mobile print solution for Android 4.4.2 and HP Slate

With the plug-in installed you'll find a Print option in the app menu.
Before printing you can set a few parameters.

Canon's printer division has announced Canon Print Service, a software plug-in for your mobile device that allows you to print to compatible Canon printers via a Wi-Fi connection. The service is available for Android devices running version 4.4.2 or newer and select HP Slate devices.

Canon Print Service uses Android's recently announced printing framework and does not require any drivers. Once installed a "Print" function appears in the options of many apps and when selected allows you to set a range of parameters including paper size, number of copies and orientation. One more tap on the Print button and your photos or documents will be sent wirelessly to the printer.

Whether you want to send your pictures to a photo printer or print an email on the office printer, there is nothing that can stop you now. You can download the plug-in's Android 4.4 and HP Slate versions in the Google Play Store and read more about the service on the Canon website. Under the Google Play links you will also find a list of compatible Canon printers.

HP to outsource camera business, concentrate on Print 2.0

Thu, 08 Nov 2007 10:22:58 Z

(image) In a move which will be of no surprise to many Hewlett Packard has outlined plans for the future of its digital camera business, announcing that it is to licence an OEM partner to design, source and distribute HP-branded cameras. This shift in strategy is intended to allow the technology giant to concentrate on developing its Print 2.0 initiatives, strengthening its position in the home and commercial printing markets. The current range of cameras is expected to remain on sale for the remainder of this year with the new partnership deal to follow in the early part of 2008.

Press release:

HP to Seek New Business Model for HP-branded Cameras

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 7, 2007 - HP today announced that it will seek an alternative business model for its HP-branded cameras and shift resources toward its Print 2.0 growth initiatives.

HP is currently working to identify an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner that would be licensed to design, source and distribute digital cameras under the HP brand. HP will continue selling its own cameras through the holiday season and intends to have the partnership arrangement in place in the first half of 2008.

This shift in strategy is intended to enable HP to accelerate its investment in Print 2.0 initiatives. These include furthering HP's leadership position in home photo printing and online photo services, while accelerating the company's retail photo-finishing business.

Announced in May 2007, the company's Print 2.0 strategy focuses on three areas: delivering a next-generation digital printing platform that increases print speeds and lowers the cost of printing for high-volume commercial markets; making it easier to print from the web; and, extending HP's digital content creation and publishing platforms across all customer segments.

As a result of its new camera business strategy, HP will take a pre-tax charge of approximately $30 million in the fourth fiscal quarter ending Oct. 31, 2007.

HP R707 extinguished by firmware

Wed, 07 Jun 2006 07:45:51 Z

(image) We've seen this story reported in many forms on many sites but only truly accurately on Imaging-Resource. The reality is that HP are not recalling the R707 but have instead issued firmware which can prevent a fire hazard. If the camera was used with a non-rechargeable battery (such as a Lithium Duracell CP-1) and then connected to the AC adapter or docking station there was a potential for the battery to overheat and even catch fire. This new firmware resolves this issue.

The B9180 is said to produce instantly dry, waterproof prints that resist fading for up to 200 years. Press Release: HP Helps Professional Photographers Stay Ahead Of The Competition New Versatile Printing System Delivers Professional Quality Prints For Display Or Sale ORLANDO, USA, February 27th, 2006 – HP today announced the launch of its new HP Photosmart Pro B9180 A3+ Photo Printer, designed specifically for professional photographers. With eight, high capacity individual pigment-based HP Vivera Inks and enhanced media compatibility, this leading printing system allows photographers to be up to 30 percent more productive 1, helping them succeed in the increasingly competitive professional photography market. Magnum photographer Carl Dekeyzer said, "There is no time wasted waiting around for proofs with the HP Photosmart Pro B9180. As well as demonstrating impressive print speeds, the new system delivers prints at an affordable cost per page. Finally, the outstanding image quality and the precise and consistent colours allow me to select those images that will be best suited to display or sell." Drawing on HP’s heritage in the graphics and commercial printing market this efficient, powerful new printer will produce high quality, instant dry, durable, waterproof prints that resist fading for up to 200 years, a new benchmark in photography. 2 The newly designed printing system features HP’s proprietary scalable printing technology for increased productivity, versatility and affordable cost per page, along with eight individual pigment ink cartridges, four two-colour printheads and a range of professional photo and fine art papers. Industry leading HP Advanced Photo Paper solves this problem. Featuring retail quality finishes, in glossy and satin-matt, customers will appreciate the durability of the thick, heavy paper. The paper’s instant dry porous coating allows immediate handling without smudging, helping to create a more productive and efficient studio. Additionally, new A3+ HP digital fine art papers, based on HP’s professional large format media range, provide photographers with the materials needed to display their work in a gallery. Four types of papers – Watercolour, Aquarella Art, Smooth Fine Art and Artist Matte Canvas – provide professionals with greater choice when printing work for display. HP quits selling digital cameras in Asia

Wed, 03 Aug 2005 15:43:29 Z

(image) HP has announced plans to stop selling digital cameras in the Asian market. An HP spokesman told dpreview, the company wants to "increase focus on opportunities that offer the highest possible return and where the company can deliver greatest customer value." It will instead turn its attention to home printing in the region, reports ZDNet. The move is thought to be as a result of stiff competition from other manufacturers and follows the news that HP could make up to 25,000 of its workforce redundant. Digital camera sales for the region were not encouraging and research analysts IDC, showed that the company was selling so few cameras last year that it fell into the 'other' category. Outside of Asia however the company performed better, ranking no.5 in the United States and no.7 in Europe and Latin America.
