Yeah that's if you have an older song in the 128kbps Protected AAC. Unfortunately Fission can't open those as they have digital rights management embedded in. Fortunately any song purchased in the last few years does not contain digital rights management and you can open no problem.

Yeah see if Fission works for you. I wholeheartedly agree with all the accounts and such floating around. I have basically decided to halt buying music from iTunes and have been really happy with Spotify for immediate listening and ordering CDs from Amazon for those great albums I want to keep.

Simply put I am tired of itunes controlling my music. My immediate family of 4 owns 6 ipods, most of those not used anymore because we have been sucked into buying newer igadgets. 6 iphones because we update to the newer phones. 2 ipads, 1 ipad mini, 2 imacs and one mac pro laptop. 4 itunes accounts with user names and passwords. And the whole family buying different music on different accounts. Trying to keep computers and family together on all these different devices is impossible. I have shut it all down until I can find away to strip all of itunes information off of the music that I have paid for. I am going to try Fission, I hope it works.

Thanks for the tip. I've played with this a bit and although it does work, it is no day to day fix for us folks who like a graphical user interface. But great to have the tip on the site!

Actually Fission is lossless in it's conversion of lossy data. No additional data is lost in the conversion. Most other applications cannot say this, but Fission is different. Cool right? I don't know any for PC, but I'm sure there are tons of useful tool for the PC side. Us Mac users have a harder time with this stuff unfortunately.
