Novartis withdraw supply of Neoral/Cyclosporin in Greece
Despite the best efforts of our pharmacist for many months we have been unable to fill IKA prescriptions for the transplant/immune suppressive drug Neoral (Cyclosporine).

Today we contacted Novartis the pharmaceutical company who supply this drug & they confirmed it was being withdrawn from Greece although they would not confirm over the telephone why.

Has anyone else any further information?

We shall be contacting the company in writing but as the supplies dry up quite where that leaves patients on this drug is anybody’s guess?

A months supply costs approx €280 so buying in this medication is beyond most people’s budget, if anyone has any unused no longer required please let us know.

Once we get the official reply from Novartis we will post it in the meantime if your on it start exploring with your consultant an alternative!

Registering a birth
Thank you we have done it today!

eye doctor
To obtain a prescription for a new pair of glasses, you need a prescription from an ophthalmologist, either at the hospital, either at a medical care center. There is no EOPYY-accredited ophthalmologist in your neighborhood, neither in Chania. There is no such thing as good or bad doctors; only those you like and those you don’t.

Free medical support and prescriptions
The doctors on the EOPYY list are all EOPYY-accredited, which means they all have the right to see IKA-insured patients, OPAD-, OAEE-, OGA- and TYDKY-insured patients, which are now, in fact, all EOPYY-insured patients.
The list mentions all private doctors; IKA-hospital doctors are automatically accredited (not necessarily private centers!).

As I said before, IKA and other books will be discarded for the benefit of EOPYY-books or cards. Since we are at the very beginning of this new National Health Service, people still have to use their old book.

To conclude: IKA-insured persons and foreigners who have a valid European Insurance Card receive free medical care, either at the hospital, either at a medical care center, either at a EOPYY-accredited doctor in private, mentioned on the EOPYY-list.

IKA
Take  AMKA number as well as passport and IKA book.

These days   AMKA number is needed.

If  you don`t have an AMKA number , go to your local KEP office ( like a town hall , council office ) and  ask for one.

Produce your   blue card, resident permit in other words, passport and IKA book.

The  AMKA sheet of paper will have  a row of  numbers on it, keep the sheet in your  IKA book at all times, or  write the  numbers down in your  IKA book,  all to do with tax.

AMKA NB.
yes you are right Andrew the AMKA number is for life similar to our National Insurance number, it is the IKA Health book that needs a yearly renewal, the date should be printed on the inside page with all your details.
Ours have to be renewed at the end of February

To find EOPYY- accredited doctors, open http://www.opad.gr/ In the left column tick the first blue window ΙΑΤΡΟΙ ΣΥΜΒΕΒΛΗΜΕΝΟΙ ΜΕ ΤΟΝ ΕΟΠΥΥ.
The list is alphabetic, according specialty (left column)

I always used to take a couple of Ibuprofen about 1 1/2 hrs before my appointment, certainly helped with the discomfort.
