Hour of Slack #1665 - The Drugs (rerun #905)

Thu, 15 Mar 2018 20:10:51 +0000

THIS EPISODE IS TOTALLY INEBRIATED! We weren't, NECESSARILY, when we assembled this show in August of the so-called year "2003," but the episode itself is WAY high. The mad audio mutator, Mr. Fernandinande LeMur, was on a real tear then, as were we of the ESO Swamp Radio Show on WCSB in Cleveland. That was Prof. Chas Smith's show, which became the aptly named Brain Rot Radio Theater during the sections with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Rev. Stang. and Princess Wei. Other arteests represented include DJ Pooh and Mistah Grimm, Lump5, Phineas Narco, Puzzling Evidence Show with Philo Drummond and Dr. Hal, Elvis Hitler, NOFX, Heart Ignition, CD Truth, The Streets, and "jarto." All in all this is one of our nuttier shows. One might be hard pressed to see how this material intersects with a sober subject like "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius.

On Feb. 24, "2018," the podcast called Project Archivist had SubGenius Sacred Scribe Rev. Ivan Stang on for a second time as a guest, and this episode of Hour of Slack is just a straight copy of their show, which can be found at

Mon, 26 Feb 2018 20:57:37 +0000

There's some talking, then a media barrage by Cool Hand Chris, then a lot more talking, then a song by Walkenhorst and Porter. Don't bother us with questions, we're busy as hell!

Hour of Slack #1662 - Rev. Susie the Floozie's Greatest "Bob" Show

Wed, 21 Feb 2018 19:35:46 +0000

This is one of the best SubGenius radio show episodes ever made and it's not an Hour of Slack! It's Episode #51 of Rev. Susie the Floozie's "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse, originally broadcast on WREK-Atalanta in 1994. Susie is the greatest audio collage editor of all time, and this is one of her best mixes. It's got EVERYTHING! In it's ORIGINAL FORM, yet! (You'll see what we mean, take our word for it!) There must be hundreds of separate tracks and cuts, expertly woven together by Susie, and interspersed with her amazingly delivered rants and lots of very rare, very weird music. And all of it INSANELY DOBBS-CENTRIC!

Hour of Slack #1661 - What's Been Real

Mon, 12 Feb 2018 18:35:29 +0000

New media barrages from Cool Hand Chris! A new "Bob" quote! A killer rant by Prof. Pressure (albeit delivered by Rev. Stang)! The Woody Woodpecker theme!  A Steppenwolf cover! The horror of "Bob" Dobbs and the terrible secret of the "free Membership Pack." The Fear of the Backside, and what it really means when a person decides that everyone else is a Backside. Lonesome Cowboy Dave's parenting advice! IT'S ALL HERE!

Hour of Slack #1660 - Hour of Slack Classics

Wed, 07 Feb 2018 05:45:35 +0000

This is like the rerunniest show we ever done run! It was assembled around 2002 like a Frankenstein's monster from our favorite clips, extracted with great care out of the vast hoard of universally favorite SubGenius albums and tapes made since 1980. This one truly preserves, like flies in amber, the old-timers of the Church at their ostensible best in the first two decades of our mighty radio outreach -- before the brain damages and rheumatism set in. It's so dense that we shall just post the log here, below. (NOTE: The broadcast version is only one hour long and has no cussing; this Internet version is almost 80 minutes!)   1. Hour of Slack #1659 - Rampant Rectalism

Thu, 01 Feb 2018 00:10:44 +0000

Typical recent "live" show with atypical music by The Rudy Schwartz Project, The Psycho Skeletons, Lothar and the Hand People, and The Rainmakers; includes a doomful old rant about the Masonic Conspiracies by Stang. Then it's yakdada all the way down. Soviet chimps in the suburbs; goodbad badfilm movies; Stang's strap-on toads; sensitive snowtard bloggers; farting in the sweat lodge; Young KimCarl Jung and Punk Freud; Cicus Apocalypse versus the baby weiners; build the Wall between Heaven and Hell and make Hell pay for it; escapee angels; fossil Devil Toenails; Onan and the Fappers; rampant Rectalism.

Hour of Slack #1658 - Hour of Time for The Show #102

Mon, 22 Jan 2018 19:33:48 +0000

There are SubGenius radio shows besides The Hour of Slack. The Puzzling Evidence Show and "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse have been on air for as long or longer, and there have been other spinoffs that went extinct. But now there is a new, powerful podcast, one that erupted like a pustule out of the Thorazine Urine Podcrust comedy nontroup, called Time For The Show! The latest incarnations have been better recorded and had less cussing than earlier ones, and #102 (Jan. 8, "2018")had Stang as a guest, so for obvious reasons Stang decided to just run that insane thing pretty much as is. You can hear Time for the Show at OR OR Or look at the Hour of Slack Radio section of Anyway the purveyors of Time for the Show so far have been Rev. Fidd Chewley, Dr. Argus Faux, and the ever insecure Rev. Peas, all of them heard on recent Hours of Slack on recordings from X-Day Drills.

Hour of Slack #1657 - Shithole Town and Country

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 02:17:58 +0000

Down in the Medicine Shithole! Thanks to the President, we are now free to play, on public airwaves available to children, songs like "Shithole Town" by The Rainmakers! (Actually, we censored the broadcast version; this version is 18 minutes longer than an hour, too!) Most of the show is a good ol' live chat with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, recorded at Tarzan's at Stang Ranch, but (as always) on Sunday night just like a real show. Remastered versions of four songs by The Rudy Schwartz Poject and one by Lothar and the Hand People (!) form the opening twenty minutes but after that it's all about the smell of the fish people, the interchangeability of Trump and shit, shit holes, dingleberries, Trumphole towns, Jimmy Swaggart, Stormy Waters, British pee party tapes, what it's like down in The Medicine Fish Hole, yankin' out fresh expressions, The Master Game, Masonic Illuminati, the judging categories of Pyroflatulation contests.

Hour of Slack #1656 - Rerun of #411 - Rev. Gobi Special

Wed, 10 Jan 2018 21:23:04 +0000

This Hour of Slack  is by necessity and choice a rerun of #411 from Sept. 1993, which was requested by a long-time listener, and when we checked it out we could hear why. It's REALLY unusual and features some excellent rants by the then-high-schooler named Reverend Gobi, who had a SubGenius show at her high school radio station. They're a real blast of fresh air from the ancient past.

Hour of Slack #1655 - New Year's Eve Synaesthesia and Media Barrage

Mon, 01 Jan 2018 19:10:05 +0000

Simple! The first half is the last last half hour of the last Radio Synaesthesia show of 2017 on WCSB, with Stang and Doe joining by phone with a big gang of WCSB Subs at the station to ring in whatever new year this actually is: host Dr. Sinister and numerous other comedians, DJs, ex-DJs, and ex-cons. The only non-Stang SubGenius in the Glen Rose area, Dr. Sinsomniac, does a great call-in too. The second half is part of a major new (well, maybe old, but mostly new to us) "media barrage" style collage by Cool Hand Chris aka Rev. Christian Blatter, a highlight of which is the Star Wars saga done rap-style.

Hour of Slack #1654 - OOPS! We Forgot the Annual SubGenius Xistlessnessmess Mix Rerun

Sat, 30 Dec 2017 01:27:01 +0000

The grandsons were here and Rev. Stang had so much fun counting his blessings that he totally lost count of his jobs. What are the holidays without Slack and reruns? Sappy, nostalgia-provoking reruns on TV are what Christmas is all about, right? Plus, it gives us a break. This is the hoary old annual traditional Xmas Re-Rerun of #867 (and 921 and 1026, 1077, 1129, 1236, 1338, 1497, 1549, 1602, etc.), which was itself a condensation of some ancient year's 3-show "Best of Xmas Sickness" compilation, which were themselves the concentrated best-of from 15 years' worth of previous Xmas SubGenius and other Xmas weirdo collections, going back to the show's beginning in 1985 at KNON, Dallas. Includes over 66 separate tracks/songs/bits! And no, not one bit has been changed in all these years. Now that's Slack!

Hour of Slack #1653 - Corruptigating Worms

Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:24:58 +0000

This is Hour of Slack number 450, rerun from July of t"1994" when the show was only nine years old and still being produced in Dallas. We were between radio stations then, so we relied more on clips from other SubGeniusly radio shows like Puzzling Evidence in San Francisco and ESO Swamp Radio Brain Rot Theater in Cleveland on WCSB, and also on cassette tapes that were mailed in. It was the days before the Internet, and people spent more time on things like making tapes and mailing them around. People also read and wrote books in those days, and this episode reflects all that. We have PuzEv, Drs. 4 "Bob" pretending to invent the Church, Lonesome Cowboy Dave's rant-sterpiece, "Corruptigating Worms"; Stang reads from Donna Kossey's book KOOKS regarding Nation of Islam, and we hear strange music from Slouch, The Merkins, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Captain Beefheart.

Hour of Slack #1652 - GASLIGHT THE WHOLE PLANET!

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 20:19:52 +0000

A pretty crazy episode. Clearly confusing directions! Stang reads from our next publishing event, the novel EYELASH by Nikolai Kingsley. The Rainmakers, classics x 3. The history of Xists inventing Yetis, Yetis inventing humans, Why hide the edge of the Flat Earth? Where SubGeniuses come from. The Conspiracy destroyed Earth, switched with Mars - now we'll finish the job from a distance, seen in VR. "I don't care if I'm in the Matrix." Dave on THEY LIVE. Sell the Sonic BM buzz to Devo! People related by name. Repenting on the deathbed. That's how they destroyed Earth the first time! Emergentiles gone evil. THE CHURCH OF THE SENIOR SUBGENIUS.  Internet-only bonus: Stang and his two grandsons hunt "Bob" in the Lost Cave.

Hour of Slack #1651 - HoarDerPerSavs

Tue, 05 Dec 2017 03:55:54 +0000

The incredible rabble-rousing live devival rant "WHAT IF...?" by Papa Joe Mama highlights this episode and possibly this century. Believer-bashing rock songs by The Rainmakers and The Rudy Schwartz Project do too. We hear the opening installment of the third episode of Time for the Show, a scrum-influenced prodcast from, in this case, Faux/Chewley/Peas. The 1984 version of Mark Mothersbaugh weighs in on Dobbs Sex and SubGenius philosophy. Then there's the rest of the show, recorded at Stang Ranch with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in, but since we just got our copy of Horizon Zero Dawn today, we're going to keep this blurb short. There's some talk about about the Orgozmonic Chamber of "Bob" and Grampires, and Stang is divisive. There is an unusually long and rambling post-Show Internet-only conversation that stretches the Internet version out to 90 minutes.

Hour of Slack #1650 - THERE'S A TRUMP UNDER MY BED!

Mon, 27 Nov 2017 19:34:32 +0000

First live show from Stang Ranch! Well, they're prerecorded, but we do then at 9 pm Sundays just like at the station in Cleveland, and we strive to PRETEND it's live so that we don't have to do much editing. The discussions veers all over SubGenius Creation but the theme to which we keep returning is the timely one of sexual harassment by old rich fat men. A couple of Church secrets are even revealed! Two songs by The Rainmakers from the 1996 album SKIN are remarkably pertinent this particular month: "Different Rub" and "Good Sons and Daughters. The first 10 minutes however is solid Rudy Schwartz Project from a remastered version of their classic album DON'T GET CHARRED, GET PUFFY.

Hour of Slack #1649 - Prairie Squid

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 01:26:39 +0000

Half of show is from Hour of Slack #40 from 1986 with G. Gordon Gordon, Ivan Stang, and background music by DK Jones, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Onan Canobite. Interspersed with that hardy and informative classic fossil are Prairie Squid related songs by Champion Jack Codini, songs and rants from Stang/Wei/ESO Radio and devival collaborations, a litle KPFA squiditidy, plus everything on Napster with the word "squid" in the title.

Hour of Slack #1648 - Winterstar 2001

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 13:01:56 +0000

We managed to stay on Show schedule through our move from Ohio to Texas, but the strenuous unpacking process was what finally got the best of us and put us behind by a week. We're catching up with reruns, this one being a great example of the Hours of Slack from the early 2000s that relied on plenty of ESO Swamp Radio (WCSB Cleveland by host Chas Smith, with Ivan Stang and Lonesome Cowboy Dave) and The Puzzling Evidence Show on KPFA Berkeley by host Puzzling Evidence and cohosts Dr. Hal and Dr. Philo Drummond. We had a lot more fresh collages coming in via Usenet in those days too, in this case by Rev. nu-monet and Jupiter Research. This episode features some clips from the Stang sermon with ESO live back-up at Winterstar Symposium, and the ESO song "Wilderness of "Bob"" performed live there. Winterstar was a smaller, indoor version of Starwood held by A.C.E. of Cleveland and it elicited great gut blowout. It ended because the excellent rural Ohio everything-goes resort folded. Today there is an annual Winterstar Ball held at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland until another anything-goes winter indoor resort can be found in Northern Ohio. If it happens we'll be there!

Hour of Slack #1647 - Endless Slack - Syn Without Dr. Sinister

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 00:21:20 +0000

This one's a Radio Synaesthesia show without Dr. Sinister, with Stang at the controls, Princess Wei and Dr. Hal (with yet another new song!) in the studio, and the Lonesome Cowboy on the phone, recorded July 9 "2017." Many Church secrets are revealed including the history of SubGenius transgender weddings. Pretty much everything important is discussed, followed by discussions of everything else. Hopefully we will have Tarzan's Radio Station fully cranked up next week.

Hour of Slack #1646 - Take Up The Slack

Fri, 10 Nov 2017 03:12:22 +0000

Dr. Sinister Post-X-Day Radio Synaesthesia Show with Dr. Hal, StangDoe, Dave

Live at WCSB 2017-7-9

We are at Stang Ranch and Tarzan's Radio Station is set up, but we're still unpacking everything ELSE and have to change our address on EVERYTHING. The new address for SubGenius Foundation is Box 807 Glen Rose Texas 76043.We saved a Radio Synaesthesia show that hasn't been on Hour of Slack for this week, recorded at WCSB on July 9 of the so-called 2017, right after X-Day Drill #20. Dr. Sinister kept Princess Wei, Rev. Stang, and Dr. Hal, in the station for an extra two hours, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave called in. This is the first hour.

Stang credits Mayan Ruins, plugs Starwood, describes how it's mated with X-Day. Church of All Worlds and goat-unicorns. Why a goat? origin and result: Rev. Magdalen can't have SubGenius stuff in New York. New York state judges; Texas lawyers can sleep in court. Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in. Sold 6 copies of Neighborworld. Dave's colon and convergent evolution. Dave tells tale of Sinister as stand-up comic. X-Day Drill and the awful new revelations. Hal's new song "TAKE UP THE SLACK"! New X-Day revelations. The movie people filmed Onan's new song and a whole bunch of other stuff - much filmed already. Obstructionists in the Church. Brought huge dog to X-Day Drill. Dammett and the cat who made him her little bitch. The mysteries of Wisteria - monsters, insects, spiders.  The disgusting pond scum. Wisteria as a strip mine that was rehabilitated. The terrible derecho weather disaster of 4 X-Days ago -- no power in Ohio EXCEPT Wisteria. Horrible weather in Arizona. Fossil fish of Ohio. Monsters of Ohio. New caller "Nightwing" confused re: turtles. Wei's ageless newt. Stang's video "FIG - The Newt That Time Forgot" - microorganism movie "Micro Monsters" on revstang YouTube channel. Philo wants ads for Roku. The SubGenius video archives -- Stang's new chore. Hoping to film more SubG old-timers. Robert Crumb and the Church. SubG celebs. David Byrne and the Puzzling Evidence scene in True Stories. Goat Yoga on Stang Ranch. Dave was a refugee from Middle East. Goat meat restaurants. Goat-killin'and skinnin'. World might end tomorrow but probably go to Starwood instead. Dave on Trotsky and Lenin. Why "Bob" Dobbs stopped showing up at Devivals. When Dr. Sinister saw "Bob" get hit by a bus. "Bob's" both the mouth and anus of the Universe! Dr. Sinister breaks and does credits.

Hour of Slack #1645 - Dr. Sinister Radio Synaesthesia Show 9-17-17

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 19:23:25 +0000

We start with a rant and the song "Reckoning Day" by THE RAINMAKERS recorded June 2nd 2017 at Knuckleheads Garage. We made it to Stang Ranch Texas, intact with ALL OUR STUFF, the entire Church of the SubGenius main media archive and Slack Altar elements, after a truly strenuous and taxing house move. We're still unpacking, but basically the huge move is over and we can emit this new-like Hour of Slack #1645, maybe a little late. It was recorded September 17, "2017," on Dr. Sinister's show on WCSB Cleveland, Radio Synaesthesia, which follows Hour of Slack there on Sunday nights. We stuck around the station for two hours, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave called in.

RED ALERT! The Kickstarter effort for the documentary about the Church ends in five days and it's all or nothing! It's raised $130,000 but needs one last mighty push to reach the goal! Even if you're stone cold broke yourself, TELL EVERYONE!

Last live show at WCSB until next summer; we're MOVING! This episode attacks the ins and outs of packing and prepping massive SubGenius media archives for transportation across 1000 miles of Pink territory in a disguised "moving van." We also discuss the documentary movie in progress, SLACKING TOWARDS BETHLEHEM, and urge all listeners to check out the Kickstarter page and trailer. Hour of Slack #1643 - Goodbye, Dammett

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 15:09:49 +0000

It's all about dogs. There's some great Swinging Love Corpses, The Rainmakers, and The Psycho Skeletons in this, and a sermon by Rev. deFalk, but mostly it's a tribute to our late, great SubGenius hound dog, Dammett, who boarded the Saucers at age 12 on Sept. 29, or St. Dammett / Bite the Mailman Day. (Thanks to Rev. Guimo for that idea.) We also ALMOST reveal MASSIVE Church secrets, and discuss the SubGenius Yard Sale which had ended just before this show started, but the best parts are about having and losing a great dog pal... our little boy, old as he was. The highlight is a recording of Dammett howl-dueling with a pack of coyotes in the dead of night.

OH, and the BIG MYSTERY SECRET we were hinting at can now be told:

Hour of Slack #1642 - Ejerkulation Compuncture in NEIGHBORWORLD

Tue, 03 Oct 2017 15:06:18 +0000

Lonesome Cowboy Dave's sci-fi novel NEIGHBORWORLD has been published! By us! It's at now as well as Amazon and the CreateSpace store! Paperback or Kindle! Other topics: the DELETE button on your forehead, delivery by drone, the Seizure Post, Goat Simulator, college radio station ettiquette, and scrote-scraping. Music: El Queso, The Walk-Ins, Dr. Ahmed Fishmonger, DK Jones, The Rainmakers, XPosed 4Heads. "Bob" Dobbs is the subject of MOST of the music.

This show is from two weeks ago. We didn’t do a live show this week because, well, our old hound dog and co-host Dammett suddenly decided to board the saucers early and we had to say goodbye to him. He is with Pappy now and we are looking for a Treeing Walker Coonhound puppy.

Mon, 25 Sep 2017 20:39:33 +0000

Welcome to the Swingin' Shed! If we can't whup it, we'll go down - but we'll go down swinging. Stang springs The Good Rev. Roger's excruciating END TIMES FINAL EXAM on the gang, which includes Dr. Sinister this time! There's also a horrible goat pun tribute to Dr. Dark, and a goodly stretch of Thorazine Urine Podcrust from last X-Day Drill, with Dr. Argus Faux, Rev. Danny Shoggoth, and Rev. Peas. Music is by Drs. for Wotan, Dr. Bizarro and the Disgustos (two killer anthems!), The Rainmakers, and The Psycho Skeletons.

Dr. Sinister's Synesthesiamobile got rear-ended and he couldn't make it to the WCSB station, so we filled in for him with an EXTRA Hour of Slack! Played some old but rebooted Dr. Bizarro and the Disgustos (recently remixed on CD), some Amino Acids from 20X-Day, some Faux-band, and a rare recording of Lenny Bruce doing a live show at a club, spiced up by a heckler. The middle of the show has Lonesome Cowboy Dave and studio hosts StangDoe expounding about, among other things, the pros and cons of expounderment, and the hazards of chicken bone shards vis-a-vis dog throats. Stang reads the orgy scene from Neighborworld.

The rest of this episode is live SubGenius gossip and delivered knowledge from the called ministers of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, those being Rev. Ivan Stang, Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave, broadcast from WCSB Cleveland on Sunday night, Sept. 3, "2017." Dave was especially off the hook, mental mash-up-wise. Everything was covered thoroughly. No summation possible.

Hour of Slack #1637 - Extemporadio and the Antlers of the Jackelope

Mon, 28 Aug 2017 22:48:48 +0000

Live 2017-08-27

Music includes very old (The Monkees, Glassmadness, Dr. G. Gordon Gordon and Drs. for Extreme Prejudice) and very new (Dr. Faux and the Right Angles, Xposed 4Heads, and two songs from a 2014 album by The Rainmakers that was new to us but uncannily timely. Then it gets talky, with a discussion about the Western Jackelope from Stang Ranch followed by some Thorazine Urine Podcrust from 20X-Day (Peas, Faux, Shoggoth in this case), and finally the Lonesome Cowboy calls the station.

Dave's centrifuge of spittle versus The Elite. Who ARE the Elite? Fox News being the most mainstream and elite. Dave's slippery, soapy problems with connective tissue of the topic of discussion. The Air Force can induce a near-death OOB experience just by putting pilots in a centrifuge! Neighborworld is about to be on sale! The Salton Sea and the SubGenius in Mexicali or Calexico. Dave's cousin Fornicato. Dave's novel Neighborworld about to be published; excerpt. A mouse gnaws on Dave's phone line. Stang's job and the SubGenius documentary. Hurricane Harvey versus Obama's flood regulations (removed by Trump 2 weeks prior). Crazy greed-mongerers like "Bob." Wei's new word: EXTEMPORADIO. Podcrust of 20X-Day. The Texas studio, where gravity is higher.

Hour of Slack #1636 - Ask Dr. Hal The Musical

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 15:11:36 +0000

This episode features both the Ask Dr. Hal Show from the 20X-Day Drill and a lot of music both old and new -- and a Rainmakers album, "Monster Movie," which was done some years ago but is new to us. The show opens with a great Rainmakers song about conspiracy kooks, "Who's At the Wheel," followed by "The Dallas Cowboys, Jesus and Me" (classic Rudy Schwartz Project). Dr. Argus Faux and The Right Angles perform his song about the Church, "SubGenius," and after some Ask Dr. Hal we hear another "new" Rainmakers song, "Monster Movie." Xposed 4Heads follow more Dr. Hal asking with "Push Me." After the last Hal answers we hear live instrumentals - The Right Angles from a Florida show and a medley by The Amino Acids recorded at 20X-Day. The show closes with yet another original new SubGenius song, "No Slack, No Hope" by Rev. Loveland of Artificial Telepathy. Also included is a recording of Rev. Stang's last minute warning about the Eclipse and possible dangers from a test of The Beacon, from a live broadcast the day before.

Hour of Slack #1635 - Dr. Dark Has Boarded the Saucers

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 15:15:55 +0000

One of our best friends died last Friday and this episode is about him. The sick humorist, master heckler and Great Badfilm archivist has taken his puns to “Bob” and “shot through,” as the late Pappy Stang put it. It was not exactly unexpected, and Dr. Dark was extremely well prepared, but we got the news just a few hours before this broadcast and were just starting to get shaken up. Such things take a while to sink in. We tried to pick some music he would like so there is some classic Rudy Schwartz Project in this show as well as an inspiring opening song by Xposed 4Heads. The background music is from classic Universal monster movies. Stang also reads an excellent rant by The Good Reverend Roger about staying weird, often an uphill battle. There is some philosophizing about death and the meaning of life, talk of an afterlife, etc., but mainly it’s three old folks remembering and celebrating an old friend. He was quite a character, to put it mildly. He is the only SubGenius besides Rev. Stang who was at every single X-Day Drill from 1996 to 2016, and was with Rev. Stang every single July 5 7 a.m. He is sorely missed although we are hoping for some Heckling from Beyond. If anybody could pull that off it would be Dr. Dark.

Hour of Slack #1634 - Stang Starwood Rant 2017

Fri, 11 Aug 2017 19:45:32 +0000

A week after the world failed to end on X-Day, it tried to at least reboot a week later in the form of Starwood Festival, an all-purpose mind-blower started in 1980. Rev. Ivan Stang takes his annual Starwood sermon very seriously. (The SubGeniuses of X-day Drills are hecklers and would ruin the recording, whereas the pagans are polite and often strangely respectful.) The polite Rev. Stang has been holding back on saying certain things about our current governmental situation for months, because he wanted to be able to say them to real live people, right in their faces. He considers this rant to have been a failure, because afterwards no one came up and punched him in the nose.

Hour of Slack #1633 - Pufferdome Rant 2017

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 22:04:47 +0000

A fine short burst of madness from Dr. Cozmac is followed by a brand new Dr. Hal song! Then for about 15 the conversation from 20X-Day Drill between Dr. Hal and Rev. Mother Miller continues. (We're saving some of that for later.) The second half of the episode is the uncut recording of Rev. Stang preaching a somewhat impromptu sermon at Starwood 2017 in the Pufferdome, a huge inflatable dome with strange acoustic qualities. Mayan Ruins provided musical accompaniment and Waking Dream filled the dome with projections, but you can't see those on the radio. The Pufferdome rant was meant to be timely and also the tease for the longer Starwood Main Stage sermon the next day, which we will play next week before we get back to the dozens of hours recorded at 20X-Day with a cast of at least ten. This episode ends with a song about dogs by The Rainmakers, from a late 2016 live performance -- because part of Stang's Pufferdome rant includes the story of Dammett the hound dog's travails during Starwood and X-Day.

Hour of Slack #1632 - Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie the Floozie

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 16:44:42 +0000

Recorded at 20X-Day Drill (second day) with Dr. Hal, Rev. Susie the Floozie, Rev. Mother Doctor Miller, and Rev. Ivan Stang, and it’s all talk. However there is a nice glimpse of behind-the-scenes excitement at the campground setting, as Stang is informed of a SubGenius Kook interloper trying to invade the event, gets a bit steamed up about it, and has to leave Tarzan’s Radio Station in the hands of his co-hosts, who are unfamiliar with it. (Notice that it is Mother Miller who figures out the “ON” button.) While there is some good spontaneous ranting, much of this particular episode involves Church of the SubGenius “real-life” history and gossip, and the sex lives of lizards. NOTE: As the 20X-Day week proceeded, the old-timers like Dr. Hal and Stang did less and less at Tarzan’s, while younger podcrusters did more and more, which you will be hearing on future shows in abundance.

Hour of Slack #1631 - Live at 20X-day with Dr. Hal

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 23:34:24 +0000

Starts with a classic audio collage and fabulous rant by Rev. Susie the Floozie from "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse in the distant past, and it is GREAT! Philosophical recording of Prof. Chas Smith on his show ESO, awaiting X-Day. Stang and Chas to Bleepo on rerun plans for the decimated planet. NHGH will return the tapes he took when we forgot to push "record".  Stang's old "EotW" pop song collage. REM, Quicksilver, Mojo Nixon, Sublime,   Hendrix, GWAR, etc. TITLES - Hal and Stang start in, talking about X-Day and their personal Escape Planets. We can bring back to life all extinct creatures and plants. You can have your own unicorn… albeit not as you expected. Billy-Unicorns and virgins. Elasmotherium. Lancelot the Unicorn - Morning Glory and Oberon, Stang's old buddies. Oberon has similar job description to Stang - Church of All Worlds. The Water-Sharing ceremony at Brushwood. At Starwood Stang hangs out out with rival cult leaders he once made fun of. Wiccan history. Much of pop culture came from the 1920s. Hal on recording his new songs. Burning of Ikon tonight by Cosmac and Faux. Emergentiles - drew up plans! Science is illegal! All-Science High. We could make smoke bombs here. Wasp attractant. Stang loves bugs and he lets them fly around his face and camera. Stang's Arkansas tick. Pete Goldie and bedbugs. Emboldened by the Trump administration. Grab ya by the *PUSSY*. Part of American discourse -- CoSG prepped us for world where political discourse is now internet flame wars. The contingent that suggests we're condoning sexism and etc. - bears somehow now symbolize all political male evil. New headphone for third bun - "Bob" can do Number Three. Teeters LaVerge. "I'VE GOT A TUB OF PILLS FOR DR. LEGUME!" Stents in all the old SubGs. Esquivel background music. Brother Cleve Dunkan co-composed music with Esquivel on his deathbed. Stang saw Esquivel's old tapes. Rev. Bleepo is working with The Firesign Theatre. Ray Harryhausen and "Bob." Stang's Invicta dinosaur series toys - Hayward and Harryhausen - fall-out between Harryhausen and Hayward. Ray And Diana Harryhausen almost bought Aleister Crowley's house but freaked out. But into UFOs. Predestination and Harryhausen, Sufis. Spray me with some Quantum Foam. We need an escape clause. This isn't the only universe. The SubG rockathon, the frug, and the frog!  Stang's problem with time travel and planetary movement through space. "How do you think I got here, Past-Man?" "The Sacrifice Game" is the title Stang couldn't remember of a book about time-travel through consciousness transfer. ABRUPT END!

Hour of Slack #1630 - A THIRD EMACULATION?

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 00:11:31 +0000

At the 20X-Day festival, which sadly turned out to be only a 22nd X-Day Drill, Dr. K'taden Legume and Rev. Ivan Stang revealed, and then attempted to actually USE, a recently-unearthed invention by J.R. "Bob" Dobbs himself-- a bizarre hybrid human-alien device/homunculus intended for use in directly communicating with the Xists themselves! The deeply disturbing story behind the device's assembly -- which involved Dr. Legume exhuming a corpse, and worse -- is first told to the crowd of astounded SubGeniuses by Legume. Then Stang, "feeling lucky," chose to volunteer himself as a channel or vessel for the device's initial possibly-sacrificial activation. The results, heard on recordings here, are controversial to say the very least. Indeed they threaten to tear the Church apart! Rev. Stang literally died briefly then returned to this plane to blurt out what MAY be an "ALTERNATE X-DAY PROPHECY" involving new dates and times!… but with the year maddeningly left unspecified! In this episode, guests Dr. Hal and Lonesome Cowboy Dave help Wei and Stang in trying to decipher the meaning of the event. Reasonable explanation was made immeasurably more difficult by an (if anything) even more frustrating translation by Rev. Sinphalimus Exmortis of yet another message, a series of numbers and sentences in English encoded algorithmically within a burst of noise that accompanied the "device's" activation. Thanks to an early release of the unedited recordings (this broadcast version being much truncated and devulgarized), already various SubGenius groups have jumped to conclusions and schismed into competing "denominations," such as the "MAY DIE-ISTS" and the "DIDJU LIE?-ists," the "Seventh Day Destructionists" and the "Fifths of Planetary Overdose-ists." We Elders and Hierarchites of The SubGenius Foundation, Inc., strongly advise SubGeniuses NOT to cling to simplistic conclusions but to remember that "Bob" plays in mysterious ways, to quote the late St. Stymie Debergerac. We are personally tending toward a "WHY NOT BOTH" approach, although that is probably anathema to those pitiful creatures, the SubGenius Fundamentalists. Listeners are urged to view the photographs and videos of the devices and the blueprint at the various usual Members-Only Internet forums.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE: This show includes new songs by Dr. Hal ("I AM A SUBGENIUS") and by Dr. Faux ("Track 02")!

Recorded July 2 at Wisteria Event Center during the 20X-Day Drill. This is compiled from three video and audio recorder sources according to which source was most audible, but it is otherwise uncut and uncensored. We share this strange and unsettling revelation in the hopes that concerted research efforts will help make clear to us which of so many paths to take... if any. Whether one accepts this recorded evidence at face value, and how one interprets it, it very obviously up to the individual. Once again, Dobbs has provided no obvious and indisputable answer, but only a much deeper question.

Hour of Slack #1629 - First Day of 20X-Day Festival

Fri, 30 Jun 2017 21:31:13 +0000

This marks the first time we have ever posted a show online immediately after recording/broadcasting it WITHOUT LISTENING TO IT. At this posting, Dr. Hal and Rev. Ivan Stang recorded this show three hours earlier at Wisteria Event Center in Southern Ohio using Tarzan's Radio Station, The SubGenius Foundation's compact 3-mic, 2-cd sound mixing and recording system (made from stolen electronics parts, rubber bands, glue and snot). As always, it worked well on a picnic table on the stage of Caffeina's, the semi-outdoor cafe at this fine campground. The weather was a little hot, low 80s, but breezy enough, and the background video projections looked clear and colorful in contrast with sunlight glowing faintly through the huge hand-made Vinyl Dobbshead that we hung next to the impromptu recording studio. For the on-air blabbermouths, if not listeners necessarily, it was a relatively laid-back show rich in Slack.

Hour of Slack #1628 - X-Day Retro Special

Tue, 27 Jun 2017 17:05:59 +0000

The world ends tomorrow and you MAY die! We were too busy to mess with a live show, packing the iVan for our final trip to the Wisteria campground to meet the Men from Planet X, so we just played an old mysterious CD labeled "MISC. X-DAY" that turned out to be GREAT! It has about thirty tracks, many of which are themselves composed of thirty tracks. About twenty minutes of it was edited long ago by Pater Nostril, interweaving a sermon by Dr. K'taden Legume with Inadvertent Bulldada of all kinds. See you on the Saucers.

Hour of Slack #1627 - Unexpected Second Hour!

Tue, 27 Jun 2017 17:04:05 +0000

Rev. Stang unexpectedly had to fill in for Dr. Sinister, whose show Radio Synaesthesia usually follows Hour of Slack on WCSB-Cleveland. Failing to grok the station's new "wav cart" machine, Stang made up a Public Service Announcement off the top of his head on a subject with which he's had experience, heart attacks. Playing the score for "Lucifer Rising" in the background, Stang read long stretches from Lonesome Cowboy Dave's novel "Neighborworld" and an even longer stretch from "The Bobliographon" about why suicide is probably a bad idea. Then Stang played some of his own favorite music, just like a regular college radio DJ: "Auld Land Syne" done by Jimi Hendrix at the Filmore East; ESO's version of "Sounds of Silence;" Elvis Costello's "Goon Squad;" "Luck Be a Lady" from Guys and Dolls; "Battle of the Roses" by The Rainmakers, Captain Beefheart's "Trust Us," and finally Herb Alpert doing "Zorba the Greek"! Just like a REAL radio show! Also, we completely forgot to post this episode last week. It was a busy week.

Hour of Slack #1626 - Trouble Coming Every Day

Wed, 14 Jun 2017 22:13:45 +0000

Two really old classic Zappa songs, one new each by The Rudy Schwartz Project, Xposed 4Heads and Phat ManDee, then it's the Dave and Stang yak-off until the show closes with "Iodine 131" by Dave. X-Day is discussed in excruciating detail, and some secrets emerge about the SubGenius documentary project. Sarcastic comments about the coup inexplicably creep into the otherwise straightforward conversation. Straightforward I tell you.

Hour of Slack #1625 - "I'm Not a Rebel, I'm Just an Idiot"

Tue, 06 Jun 2017 20:38:51 +0000

That's our favorite quote by Rev. Argus Faux, who is not in this show! It starts with new music by The Rudy Schwartz Project, Xposed 4Heads, The Psycho Skeletons and Rev. Jimmy Ryan, with two very early Mothers of Invention classics. Then it's live Show with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in. We will admit that one thing that makes this episode different from most is that Rev. Stang was a bit tipsy, having come to the show from a memorial service that went a little longer and involved a bit more wine than Rev. Stang is used to. In fact it's the first time in decades that Stang has done a show while under the influence of anything! Dave claimed he thought Stang was unusually lively and organized, but that was an illusion.

Hour of Slack #1624 - "BOB" NEEDS WOMEN - NASTY WOMEN!

Tue, 30 May 2017 14:17:47 +0000

Live 5-28-2017; first time back at WCSB in seven months. Every orgasmic scream is a prayer to Connie! Finally having a President to hate again! These are the subjects of tonight's in-depth, incisive coverage of yesterday and tomorrow's events -- TODAY! It's Time Control all the way down, with opening world premiere (or not) songs and wrecks by The Mothers of Invention, Xposed 4Heads, The Rudy Schwartz Project, The "PsySkels," Rev. Bern Brijis, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave's NEW SONG, "Dasvidaniya, Comrade Trump"! Stang also reads the rant-letter "DEAR HUMANS" from The Good Reverend Roger. Then the lines are open and not only does Dave call in, but also Princess Wei and Dammett the SubGenius Wonder Hound! This was an episode of many firsts, including Dr. Sinister taking the place of Wei in the studio due to weather and canine autism. This episode allows a sneak peeks at numerous SubGenius formerly secret projects.

Hour of Slack #1623 - Rerun of #890 - Droggz that Refused to Die

Wed, 24 May 2017 17:18:07 +0000

One of the more insane episodes, in terms of straight out bizarritude. We might recommend headphones and towels for this one. It is possible that you could be hurt mentally by the stereobrainsplitter effects. Heavy on the Lemur, Puzzling Evidence and ESO, there's also an IMPROVED mix of John Trubee's "A Blind Man's Penis," Bongwater, Steven Hawking reading Revelation X out-takes, and much more more. We hadn't heard this since 2003 and as we listened we stared at each other with our jaws hanging open. Weirder than usual, and it's NEVER "usual."

Hour of Slack #1622 - Back to "Bob" Special from 2003

Thu, 18 May 2017 19:23:44 +0000

We returned to Ohio but are leaving again immediately for some work in California, so here's a rerun, #889 from May 2003 -- one of those dense old SubGenius shows with interwoven Puzzling Evidence and ESO radio, brain-ripping collages by LeMur and others. There's also DEVO as DOVE, Bill Hicks on Waco, the ATF and David Koresh from a bootleg, and music by DJ John K, Steve Earle and Rev. Cobblestone. The theme is "Back to "Bob."

This total barrage show from February, 2003, #879, has 50 tracks on the CD, and each track probably contains a dozen tracks mixed together. Very Old School SubGenius Media Barrage! -- but also with lots of choice ESO Swamp Radio from WCSB and Puzzlind Evidence from KPFA. Keeping it all apart are dozens of collages by the great LeMur. The general theme is general sex, Conspiracy and SubGenius. Includes a great Fat Harry White song, Heart Ignition, The Jellyeaters, and The Amino Acids.

But first there is music, all new, by XPosed 4Heads, Rev. Bern Brijis, and The Rudy Schwartz Project. Following an obituary for Doug Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave joins Princess Wei and Rev. Stang at Stang Ranch for conversation ranging from the lofty to the base on subjects both pertinent and impertinent.

Hour of Slack #1619 - Stang's Sermon at Starwood 36

Wed, 26 Apr 2017 19:45:56 +0000

Once a year, at Starwood Festival, people actually pay to (among other things) watch Rev. Ivan Stang preach nonstop for a whole hour. This episode is that hour, from July 16. SubGenius Sermons include: SubG 101. I Gave Tim Leary Drugs. God Keeps Taking the Wiseacres. The Monsters of Wisteria. Starwood Tour Guide - The Mandela Effect. Finding Slack in Dirt. The Most Powerful Drug - Moral Outrage. Trump and Stupid Person Pride. A Meat Space Kind of Guy. When Psychics Have Car Wrecks. Reading The Good Rev. Roger's GODZILLA rant. Audience Q&Q: Are We Nut Men? What Do UFOs Really Look Like? Connie Vs. Trump. What is the Question? Walkers for Trump. The Camera Drone is Not a Demon But J.R. "Bob" Dobbs might be.

Thu, 20 Apr 2017 05:08:39 +0000

Opens with "Slack It" by XPosed 4Heads - astounding! From their new album. Then new music by The Psycvho Skeletons and The Rudy Schwartz Project. But then Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in, or vice versa, and Oh, what a party! Some shocking and controversial subject6s are covered in depth, such as Dave's new novel NEIGHBORWORLD being published by the new SubGenius Foundation press; Stang's theories about the Russian hackers' "BBC-BBW" Internet porno propaganda intrusions exacerbating racism; The Easter Snake; ruins of Atlantis found all over Stang Ranch; children and the Illuminati; taxes and chiggers, how they interact; the beehive next to our faces; and the exact uses of The Acid Bath.

Hour of Slack #1617 - Rerun of #66 - 1986 / Media Barrage 4

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 21:36:03 +0000

A good old-fashioned Hour of Slack rerun from 1986 -- heavy on early Puzzling Evidence show with Dr. Hal, LIES and Gary G'broagfran, Drs. 4 "Bob," Brother Cleve Dunkan, a guest appearance by Robert Anton Wilson, and what would have been a really irritating barrage of movie sound effects had I not majorly shortened those sections for this rerun. The hour is filled out by some of the very earliest SubGenius audio, MEDIA BARRAGE #4 - "The End of the World" from 1980.

Hour of Slack #1616.5 XXX-Rated Internet Special - New Rudy Schwartz Project!

Sun, 02 Apr 2017 22:55:31 +0000

SUPER TAWDRY, REPELLENT, TRUMPY AND FILTHY! The Rudy Schwartz Project's new album is out, and that was all the excuse we needed to make another unbroadcastable episode! Between the brand new RSP cuts, we also hear raw and bold recordings from some other musicians and doktors -- tracks of prurient interest that have accumulated since our last Internet-Only Special. St. Andru the Impaled sings two songs from 19X-Day, "Fuck It" and the end of "Saucer Built for Twelve." There are hideous and wonderful collages of insane preachers mashed with cool music, by Rev. Joe Jeziorski, Rev80 and Dr. Clovis Hoof & Shane Steddum, and depraved actual songs by Pilgrim Speakeasy and Rev. Bern Brijis. We even dare to play the classic "Dancin' With a Hard-On" by The Swingin' Love Corpses! Rev. Watt deFalk and Lemur throw in, and the show ends with a long uncut rug of "Bob" Dobbs quotes assembled by Rev. Experimental, Please. NOTE: You seriously don't want kids overhearing any of this episode. NOT EVEN IF THEY ARE SUBGENIUSES!

Hour of Slack #1615 - Make "Bob" Great For Once

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 22:43:13 +0000

Oh, CRAP! The scribe forgot to type up a paragraph-long blurb loosely describing what’s in this show! DAMN! And none of us remember. We’re sure as hell not gonna listen back to the show AGAIN, either. It has some music, but not much, we remember that much, and it has Lonesome Cowboy Dave, and Stang and Doe all going on and on about something something Church of the SubGenius. It was recorded Sunday night March 26, when everybody should have been in bed because we all had to get up early on Monday. Darn this stupid old show.

Hour of Slack #1614 - KOOK VS. KOOK

Tue, 21 Mar 2017 18:28:03 +0000

This is a fun one with new rants, new music, old Lemurian collages and one very funny classic from "1998": Stang's short stint as a guest on Bob Larson's evangelical Christian radio show. Stang also reads a killer rant by Rev. Roger NA, "I Have No Ass and I Must Shit," and that's followed by a very inspiring song from Xposed 4Heads' upcoming album, "Push Me." Then, a live (if incomplete) recording of Rev. Baby Bear's clever new "SubG 101" sermon, delivered at The Winterstar Ball in February, an instrumental by Robert Are, and Rev. Watt de Falk as Satan taking a call. Back at 19X-Day, Stang and Dr. Hal unveiled the new "Bob" Balls board game and describe the contents of the game box (and the CD that comes with it!). We rerun The Rudy Schwartz Project's pre-election Trump song, some excellent collage work by LeMur, and Dr. Hal recites a grisly poem about a child eaten by a lion. A recent composition by The Psycho Skeletons closes the show, although the Internet version has an extra 3 minutes of Stang exhorting the listeners to get real and "man up."

Sorry we’re late with the Internet version of this episode, but we were in Austin with Dr. Philo Drummond and St. Palmer Vreedeez, representing the Church of the SubGenius at SXSW. Plenty got recorded there, but not by us! There’s a documentary about the Church in the works. Meanwhile. here’s a rerun of hoary old show #897 from July, 2003. It’s not exactly Old School SubGenius, but Middle School certainly, with much classic LeMur collages, ESO Swamp Radio and Puzzling Evidence Show, plus some Bill Hicks and Weird Al along with original SubGenius music and ranting.

Stang predicts President Bannon in this episode, recorded July 4, 2016 at Wisteria with special guests Dr. Hal, Rev. Angry Larry and Rev. Susie the Floozie. Planet X or Bust by El Queso All-Stars - intro re Underoos and panties. At Tarzan's Radio Station on 8th day of 19X-Day, also used by Stang for band mixing. 8-Tracks and carts. Stang deaf - mixes by Braile and meters. Can hear the bell but not the SubGeniuses. Rev. Angry Larry as guest. Had weird dream that we were doing the show. Hour of Slack #1609 - Stang Ranch SubKids Afterschool Special

Mon, 13 Feb 2017 20:38:14 +0000

Special guests this episode are Rev. Ivan Stang's two grandsons, Age 6 and Age 8 (the Sons of Sivet!), recorded at Tarzan's Radio Station, improvising a suspenseful radio play about a monster hunt in which the monster is "Bob" himself! Interspersed are seriously bulldadized "Old-Gulag" Lemur-style Classic Collages, by Lemur, and a historical dissertation by Stang about the cranks, crackpots, charlatans, psuedo-scientists and fellow cult leaders of Glen Rose, Texas (new alternate home of The SubGenius Foundation HQ). Background music by Mayan Ruins from "Sacred and Profane."

Hour of Slack #1608 - St. Joe Riley's Bulldada Barrage

Wed, 08 Feb 2017 01:32:53 +0000

This is a truly old-school classic rerun, with intensive high-speed bulldada mostly from St. Joe Riley's "Bulldada Barrage" of 1992 and a KPFA Puzzling Evidence Show (KPFA Berkeley) from March, 1988 featuring Wellman, Howll, and G'Broagfran, with Stang guesting, with calls to (not from) Dr. Philo Drummond, Papa Joe Mama and Pope Sternodox Keckhaver. Joe Riley's collage editing (aka media barrage) was ASTOUNDING, as heard throughout this rerun from the olden days. His video collages were even better and his show THE HYPNOTIC EYE can be seen on the ROKU channel OSI-74 in the SubGenius section (and YouTube). Also heard are the ranters of Church of New Faith, a Father Joe Mama sermon, lots of Jim Jones, OBE, and The Three Stooges.

Hour of Slack #1607 - "I Was a Cultist for the ATF"

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 04:41:03 +0000

Papa Joe Mama's 1998 SubGenius radio play "I Was a Cultist for the ATF" is but one of several short radio plays in this rerun from 2003. We also get "SubGenius Sci Fi" by The Bishop and the classic "High School Madness" by The Firesign Theatre from their album "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers." Oddly, all of these old skits seem remarkably pertinent to this week's news events despite being such ancient parables about authoritarianism in THE CONSPIRACY. Lonesome Cowboy Dave and the late Chas Smith are heard in some great clips from ESO Swamp Radio (WCSB) and there are loads of keen Lemur Collages -- plus, Radio Lemuria, which has nothing to do with Lemur but features a fine rant by Rev. Lemuel Atom. Music cuts include Rev. Mojo Nixon and Rev. The Amino Acids!

Live at Tarzan's Radio Station in Fossil House on Dokstok Mountain, Stang Ranch, Stangsville, Texas, 2017"-01-23 with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in. The new Secretary of Hate's comments and "alternative facts." Ladies' March inaugural discrepancies and old fake news about what constitutes reality. Transporntainment, infotainment and Dave's novel NEIGHBORWORLD. "Info" and "scan" as suffixes, prefixes. The Winterstar Ball with Rev. Baby Bear preaching on Feb 12 at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. The old Winterstar site sold to some cult. Stang's scary certified letter from tax man wanting proof of "agricultural use" for Dokstok Mountain. How to qualify for "AG USE"? Butterfly sanctuary? Raise meerkats, lemurs, tree sloths? Stang's Roach Farm! "Bob's" prophecy re: roach steaks in 2000, broomsticks in the ass fad. Could make cheap broomsticks from cedars. Need to somehow have farm on 5 acres. Ant farm? Pet rock farm? SKULL FARMING! Roadside attraction "Destructionist Museum" and the excavations of our devil, alien, and cave SubGenius fossil skeletons. Man Eating Chicken and post-post-literate travelers. The SubGenius Abusement Park in Glen Rose Texas. Make the Yankee tourists sign the waiver and then we farm their skulls. The drones record it all anyway. Get Legume to do the Cave Bear Mating Dance of the Cave SubGenius wearing our bear skins for the roadside attraction. Get CULT EXEMPTION? But we have no minions. Stang speculates re: right wing conspiracy against SubGenius in town. But this is a low grade cult. President Howard Hughes. Hour of Slack #1604 - Lost Rants Found!

Tue, 10 Jan 2017 00:38:13 +0000

We're still unearthing mystery clips of ranting and music from the hours and hours 19X-Day recordings, and two newly excavated rants are mounted here -- one by Rev. Argus Faux and one by Rev. Nuggett, both ranting their lungs out over music by The FukPs (in this case Rev. Angry Larry, Lord Rock God and Rev. Sinphaltimus Exmortis). Another rant, the excellent "Special Snowflakes" by The Good Rev. Roger, is read by Stang at 19X-Day. The rest is straight WCSB-style Stang-Doe-Dave spouting, but recorded at Stang Ranch insteada of WCSB. There we discussed the dangers of brains and knowledge in a Trumpian America, which is also illustrated in the song by The Attery Squash, "DEVO Was Right About Everything." The difference between scrum and crunt is further delineated. "We all fetch the stick when the big man throws it."

Tue, 03 Jan 2017 17:17:17 +0000

Whole episode is recorded in one take on New Year's Day, "2017," at Tarzan's Radio Station with Lonesome Cowboy Dave guesting and gusting by phone. Partial list of subjects covered: new laws for the Re-Entertainment Camps of The Pink Orangutan; make your own reality pills; Angela Merkel's merkin; Good Germans of America; trade the U.S. to Russia to get Checkers back; I love Big Brother; everyone else is wronger; a swampy 1984; playing with Tannerite; people think Kong and The Mummy are myths; bowel movement of the brain; Camus, Sartre and Dave; fear of death by knowledge; Destroy All Normals; actual names of real Texas plants; The Eavesfropper; Kwanzaa Hut; if Dave was President; get revenge on smartypants; Pappy in a bra; Throw Away That Truss Bridge Collapse; Cornelius Badlybuilt; we voted for him so don't shoot us; Stang got VR motion sickness on Xmas; Dave's novel NEIGHBORWORLD; stuff it into a fat sock and call it love; scroti and scrum; 2016, the year so many potential bullshartists were born. Hour of Slack #1602 - SubGenius Annual Xistlessnessmess Mix Rerun

Fri, 23 Dec 2016 03:28:48 +0000

What are the holidays without reruns? Sappy, nostalgia-provoking reruns on TV are what Christmas is all about, right? This is the hoary old annual traditional Xmas Re-Rerun of #867 (and 921 and 1026, 1077, 1129, 1236, 1338, 1497, 1549, etc.), which was itself a condensation of some ancient year's 3-show "Best of Xmas Sickness" compilation, which were themselves the concentrated best-of from 15 years' worth of previous Xmas SubGenius and other Xmas weirdo collections, going back to the show's beginning in 1985 at KNON, Dallas. Includes over 66 separate tracks/songs/bits! And no, not one bit has been changed in all these years. In fact, this year we didn't even change the file name. It's still "1549." Now that's Slack!

Hour of Slack #1601 - Bow Before His Pea-ness

Tue, 20 Dec 2016 04:30:24 +0000

Heavily edited from 19X-Day, this episode features the fun and foibles of Rev. Peas all the way down of it. This would NOT be a good Hour of Slack for beginners or newbies. It is a sickeningly close look at the dark underbelly of the Church of the SubGenius and its called ministers. Well, the first half is, anyway. The last half is an uncut live "broadcast" from Fossil House at Stang Ranch, with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in by phone. The discussion ties cheap VR sets to tiny hands and the deliberate, planned mass enstupification of Western Civilization.

Hour of Slack #1600 - Clothing-Optional Bobtasms Show

Mon, 12 Dec 2016 22:25:34 +0000

We open with a very timely brand new song by Phat Mandee, and then Stang reads a bedtime rant from The SubGenius Psychlopaedia of Slack. The rest is an episode recorded at the 19X-Day Drill at Wisteria, just before the Mass Naked (or not) Bobtism in the pond, with Dr. Hal and Rev. Peas joining host Rev. Stang. This riveting discussion is interspersed with some documentary recordings from the Bobtism itself. Children should not be allowed to watch this episode due to the grossly disgusting visible nudity, especially the peaness of Rev. Peas.

Hour of Slack #1599 - Soundtrack of Scrum

Tue, 06 Dec 2016 02:59:34 +0000

You can watch this episode on YouTube! ( ) Sort of. After we finished a video of 19X-Day's Thursday night stage performances, or whatever those things are, we took the soundtrack and edited it down even more, to a mere 23 minutes, excluding parts that have already been heard on Hour of Slack. Basically it is a Thorazine Urine extravaganza with guests such as, well, almost everybody who was at X-Day that night. Then (from Stang Ranch) we called Lonesome Cowboy Dave and chatted for another 45 minutes. Internet listeners may have noticed that we're now putting infomercials at the ends of the Internet versions of these shows. We do this because we can, and all month it's Slack Friday.

Hour of Slack #1598 - Hour of Thorazine Urine

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 04:27:42 +0000

We were tempted to title this "Best Show Ever" because it's such a refreshing change from the old guys! Thorazine Urine Podcrust is a loose (and we do mean loose) band of blabbermouths who leapfrogged off Hour of Slack, Puzzling Evidence and "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse, did a backflip, and set their hair on fire before landing on a monocycle and peddling around in circles, juggling plates. On Friday afternoon at 19X-Day, Rev. Anna Maul, Rev. Argus Faux, and Rev. Fidd Chewley chewed up the scenery as guest hosts at Tarzan's Radio Station. (With a bigger crowd of zanies and a bunch of musical instruments, they also did some hours on the main stage.) After the podcrust, Stang continues reading from The Bobliographon (Conspiracy chapter). We also hear a new song, "Empire," from Rev. Andrew Genus, and two poems: Dr. Hal reciting "The Vulture" and a creepy original by Rev. Dr. Lee Cypher.

Hour of Slack #1597 - SubGeniUS Vs. THEM

Tue, 22 Nov 2016 00:59:03 +0000

With Dammett the hound dog snoring at his side, Rev. Stang preaches from a prophetic chunk of The Bobliographon that was written in 1980 but sounds even more frighteningly accurate today. Before that, however, there are classic songs from The Swingin' Love Corpses and The Rudy Schwartz Project and new instrumentals from Dr. Shoggoth, Rev. Jimmy Ryan, and the Psycho Skeletons. We also hear he second half hour of a 19X-Day live show at Wisteria featuring Dr. Hal, Rev. Baby Bear and Rev. Argus Faux as they discuss, among other things, the bizaarre items brought for the Bulldada Auction. Note: Many listeners will be glad to know that the asshole isn't mentioned in this episode.

Hour of Slack #1596 - We're Gonna Need a Bigger Big Lie

Mon, 14 Nov 2016 10:15:12 +0000

After being psychologically knocked for a loop, we are back with ten times as many screaming heads as they tried to cut off! We had a lot of fun assembling this episode, which is actually scripted, in a funny way; it helped us to get over THE HORROR and to move on with THE BATTLE in order to win THE JOKE. For the first half hour we copped (and recut) a lot of uncredited collage work from The Puzzling Evidence Show of the previous week (election week), then called up The Lonesome Cowboy and climbed back into the saddle for another bout in the ring. (Is it possible that a boxing ring is the wrong place for a horse race? WHO CARES? Why not both?) We also copped some good lines from those tricky Scrubgenius forum posters. The Swinging Love Corpses close out this heartfelt show with their prescient song, "We Are Going to Save the Universe."

Hour of Slack #1595 - Generic SubGenius Pledge Drive Show

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 04:54:39 +0000

This is Rev. Stang on November 10, “2016,” and I feel like I’ve been being groped by an evil fat man for 2 days straight. I’ll get over the trauma easier than most people but we don’t feel real FUNNY quite yet. Don’t worry, the sick jokes are already starting to flow again. This happened to be pledge drive week at WCSB in Cleveland, and yet the studio phone was disabled, so for now it’s time for the GENERIC PLEDGE DRIVE CD. It’s actually a pretty good collage of old rants, with a cast of dozens, spanning 35 years of pledge drives, but whenever it says to call the station, instead, go to and push the DONATE button. Or, do the RIGHT thing and buy the $35 Membership kit, become a proper legal SubGenius minister finally, and get into the secret GOOD part of the Internet. Both links are right at the top of and you even get to see our classic TV commercial FOR FREE!

Hour of Slack #1594 - Live from Stang Ranch on Dokstok Mountain

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 02:49:09 +0000

It sounds just like a regular WCSB Hour of Slack, but it's not one! The live part where Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in was the first episode recorded in our newly upgraded Tarzan's Radio Station, now located in the living room at Stang Ranch, in extremely rural Stang County, Texas. The setting is different, being festooned with mounted large dead mammal heads instead of punk band bumper stickers, but we still recorded it on Sunday at 9 p.m. EST just like always (8 p.m. in Texas), and we allowed no re-takes, thus making it like a real radio broadcast -- which it will be soon our beloved stations. The first half has the classic song "High on Dokstok Mountain" by The Swingin' Love Corpses and other music by Rev. Jimmy Ryan, Psycho Skeletons and Rev. Experimental, Please, but most is from 19X-Day with some great live radio spouting by Dr. Hal, Rev. Baby Bear, and Rev. Argus Faux (Stang being otherwise occupied, as you'll hear) and some Thorazine Urine Podcrust music-ranting-commercials by a cast of thousands but with Revs. Anna Maul, Faux and Shoggoth being the loudest.

Hour of Slack #1593 - God Vs. "Bob" Vs. Science

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 03:02:01 +0000

Rerun of #866, from December 2002. Arteests include John Lennon, a lotta Lemur, Bro. Cleve Dunkan doing The SubGenius Alphabet, ESO Radio with Chaz Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Stang, Zoogz Rift, Drexel, DK Jones, Half Man Half Biscuit, Puzzling Evidence, The Black Lodge Singers, Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, Dr. Howll, Byron Werner collage x 10, Israel Regardie and Christopher Hyatt. We couldn't assemble a new SubGenius show this week because we only have one week in which to cast four fossil dinosaur tracks on Stang Ranch and scientifically map them out on a big grid before rains come and put them under water again for the next seven months. It's a long story. We're documenting the process. But this is a really good rerun and it's a better copy than could ever be downloaded before.

Hour of Slack #1592 - For a Few Stark Fistfulls of Dollars More

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 03:47:18 +0000

"Is there anything that fanboys don't resent?" - Rev. Baby Bear

Recorded July 1st at 19X-Day Drill -- yet as raw as today's headlines! It's Dr. Hal, Rev. Baby Bear and Rev. Stang in front of an audience at Wisteria, until half an hour in, when Stang gives up the chair to Rev. Argus Faux. This conversation chugged along so smoothly that there is not a single edit in the single one-hour recording! We have no idea what happened. It's just the three or four people talking, with some background music, and yet there was nothing to remove - and only three cuss words! Go figure. Each of the four spouters goes off on a full-blown rant at least once during the proceedings. If you want to know what we talked about without listening to the show, you'll just have to look at the detailed logs we always post in the Hour of Slack Radio section of

Hour of Slack #1591 - Creationists Vs. Destructionists

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 17:02:38 +0000

Introducing the great song, "Superpsychonaziracisttrumpispsychopathic" by Rev. Jimmy Ryan. We really did move the whole station to the 9th MegaFisTemple Lodge on Dokstok Mountain, Stang Ranch, Stangsville, Texas. We will include Lonesome Cowboy Dave by phone in future shows produced there, but tonight we’re playing all manner of leftover stuff, spillovers, recent SubGenius Head Launching News commentary from Radio Synaesthesia on WCSB, some poetry by Rev. Andrew Genus from 18X-Day, some Charles Dawkins remixed by Rev. Experimental, Please, and part two of the second 19 X-Day show with Dr. Howland Owl and Rev. Susie the Floozie (both of whom have hosted their own SubGenius radio shows for decades, in San Francisco and Atlanta respectively). Stang and Dr. Hal share news of Stang's favorite local neighborhood Creationist Museum, and plans for a competing roadside attraction at Stang Ranch involving fossil alien, devil and SubGenius skeletons. Hour of Slack #1590 - Tarzan's Radio Station of Monsters

Sat, 01 Oct 2016 16:29:17 +0000

One preacher each from all three Old Time SubGenius Radio Hours! Special Guests Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie the Floozie joined Rev. Stang for shows in front of a live audience at 19X-day, and this is the second of several. Although the conversation veers and careens all over the place, the subject of monsters (such as SubGeniuses) inevitably keeps rearing its rear, so Rev. Stang has chosen to intercut some cute yet pertinent lines and songs from the lastest Monster High movie (part of a toy franchise for weird little girls). There's also a nice slice of Podcrust for the starving, on which one might spread some Doktorjam from Wednesday night on the Wisteria stage. (This jam still sounds good to Stang even after he got hearing aids.) We're posting this episode early because The SubGenius Foundation office will be on the road next week, migrating to Stangsville, Texas for the winter.

Hour of Slack #1589 - The Show That Refused to Die Again

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 19:42:52 +0000

Last show from Cleveland for the next 6 months, and first show after Stang finally got HEARING AIDS! However we're taking Tarzan's Radio Station to Stang Ranch in deepest rural Texas for the winter and plan to somehow tie Lonesome Cowboy Dave's cell phone into it. This episode includes, besides the somewhat politics-tainted surrealist live section, Billy West as Zap Brannigan as Donald Trump, a new "Bob" song by Rev. Experimental, Please, X-Day recordings including a new Rev. Amy MmHmm song, Thorazine Urine Podcrust on Scrum addiction, a short clip from Bobbie School By Rev. Watt deFalk, and The Song That Refused to Die, continuing to refuse to die.

Hour of Slack #1588 - "It's Gonna Be a Bummer, Man"

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 16:37:29 +0000

This one is strangely insane at first and then becomes strangely sane. We start with some 19X-Day live recordings of bands/ranters/podcrusts. Stang performs "The Song That Refused to Die" -- well, the first iteration of it, anyway. True to form, throughout the whole festival, that song never once died. It only simmered down a bit and disguised itself. We also hear some live Thorazine Urine Podcrust, which, like the bands, was recorded outdoors on the Wisteria stage. You can hear the owls if you listen closely over the horrible SubGenius screaming. Stang gives a little impromptu numerology lecture. Then we go live at WCSB, but Dave is late to call in, so Stang reads an ancient SubDiscordian prophecy from 1994 (found that morning in a box in the garage). When Dave calls in, the strangely sane part begins, and it's strangely not super-funny. For you see, we're starting to fret about this election thing, and the paranoid little old men who are afraid to shop at WalMart without carrying automatic weapons because there are jihadists under every bed in every kitchen. The fear that drives fairy tales and deplorables is dissected and pickled for consumption later.

Hour of Slack #1587 - Strange Podcrusts and The Clintonbot That Refused to Die

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 19:26:35 +0000

"For one thing, there is no such thing as the Internet, and none of that stuff is real. You're imagining it, and everybody imagines something slightly different, but mostly pretty much the same. That's how They get away with it." This episode may sound a bit challenging in spots, but is rich with a vibe of Slack. We've been breaking down the recordings from the first three days of the 19X-Day Drill (actually the 21st Drill), and extracting the juicy parts from the hours of chaotic contagious creativity. Some of it sounds REALLY insane, especially the Thorazine Urine Podcrust segments and the Wotan jamming that coursed through it. Lots of new voices, too! After that, the WCSB studio half starts with Lonesome Cowboy Dave calling in. The was recorded on 9-11 of "2016," when the so-called "Hillary Clinton" entity accidentally revealed its true undying nature. Horrifying! -- for some people anyway. Marx vs. Stooge and WalMart vs. Target shooting wars are discussed, among other things. Heck, it's... all over the place. SubGeniuses that Stang accidentally left out of the credits (until later) were Rev. A.P. O'Stacy, Rev. Bovver, Rev. Eggplant, and probably at least two others that we still haven't remembered.

Hour of Slack #1586 - "I'm Coming for You, Plainface!"

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 21:56:56 +0000

Close Enclownters! Dave, Wei and Stang discuss the evil lurking clowns in the news lately(not Trump, this time) and the threat of clown hunts. The live section is a regular pie fight. But the first half is Best Of 19X-Day Rants #3, with a killer autobiographical sermon by Rev. Angus Faux, a somewhat shorter sermon of encouragement from Rev. Stang (both with major Rock God and Angry Lord Larry guitar backing), another lovely original Rev. Amy MmHmm song, and the Hour of Slack premiere of Thorazine Urine Podcrust, who performed their 100th X-Day podcrust this year -- HOURS of it, of which this week's clip is but the barest scratch in the surface!

Hour of Slack #1585 - Lonesome Cowboy Dave's Chronic Jib plus 19XD-BO2

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 19:44:38 +0000

First up are some good samples from 19X-Day: two memorable new songs by St. Andrew the Impaled and Rev. Amy MmHmm, and two new improvised rants by Revs. Faux and Stang with guitar god backing (Lord Angry Larry and Lord Rock God). We also have a DEVO cover that Rev. Bleepo Abernathy had something to do with. Captain Ahab (Gregory Peck) spouts off about that darn old whale, or maybe "Bob." And Rev. Jimmy Ryan rawks. But the focus of the live talk part of the show are two songs from an ancient 45 rpm record by The Chronics, a punk band of some reknown from the late 1970s that featured our favorite lonesome cowboy, Dave, when he was a tiny little youth. Dave instructs us about The Chronics and reveals yet more secrets about his surreal life among the corruptigating worms.

Hour of Slack #1584 - Trump Vs. DEVO

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 20:05:03 +0000

First up is the amazing brand new Rudy Schwartz Project song, "It's Time for Trump." We think this might become a widely replayed song. We have new music and a new rant from new contributors Rev. Experimental and Rev. Watt deFalk, respectively; two Rev. Jimmy Ryan pieces; Rev. Bleepo Abernathy covers the TMBG song "Am I Awake?" and we get two songs from Xposed 4Heads and one from The Fantastic Plastics, both of whom performed at the 2016 DEVOtional in Cleveland the night before this show was recorded, and about which StangDoe rhapsodize at length when Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in. Subjects: The Bathroom People. SubGenius Horror Hosts and the OSI74 ROKU channel of SubGeniusly programming. Stang's health report. The insanity of the electorate. When the FBI caravan comes to town. When Dave got beaten by cops for three hours. ((Background music is all by CyberChump's "Their Moment of Perfect Happiness" (related to Xposed 4Heads).)) P.S. Stang was wrong, the first movie version of “I Am Legend” was titled “The Last Man on Earth”.

Hour of Slack #1583 - Rants and Music of X-Day / Live WCSB

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 00:00:47 +0000

First half is great rants, music and Other from 19X-Day: Rev. Nugget's nugget; some random Faux, Wei and Baby Bear; rip-snortin' guitar work by Angry Lord Larry and Lord Rock God; a heart-whacking duet by St. Andrew the Impaled and amazing singer Rev. Amy MmHmm; Stang and other Wotanners go down in The Medicine Fish Hole; and a kazoo masterpiece duet by Rev. Anna Maul and Rev. A. P. O'Stacy Fnord. When Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls at the halfway point, music from X-Day continues in the background. (Other musicians PROBABLY include Rev. Hazel of the Windmills, Dr. Shoggoth, Rev. Walter Cozmac, Rev. Sinphaltimus Exxmortis, Lord Ferg, Assmaster Fidd Chewley, Rev. Peas, Radio Mike.) The discussion with Dave is another one of those kind that all seven Trump-admiring SubGeniuses might just want to skip, because it is meant to be extremely insulting, demeaning, and belittling.

Hour of Slack #1582 - True Tales of Reptiliosexuals

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 19:34:52 +0000

Two shows in one! (A) Second half of the first 19X-Day Wisteria show with Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie the Floozie, plus (B) live show from WCSB, Aug 8, 2016 with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Stang, Wei, and Dr. Sinister. In the first half, many sexy details are revealed regarding Rev. Susie the Floozie's bug and lizard zoo and fetishes. Examples of lizard abuse in the making of old dinosaur movies are discussed and disgusting. Dr. Hal returns to Ball's Pyramid Island. In the second half, after Dave calls in and discusses Connie and jobs, Stang reads the poem "Job" by Rev. Joaquin de la Garza. Advice is given on how to survive jobs, and how to see the Mark Mothersbaugh art show in Cleveland as well as the DEVOtional. The Mandela effect, or just marijuana abuse? We managed to make it almost to the very end without mentioning Trump.

Hour of Slack #1581 - Big Sister and The Dirtiest Word

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 21:57:54 +0000

Cleveland musician Charleston Okafor was finishing up his show African Abstract on WCSB when he asked incoming DJs Rev. Ivan Stang and Princess Wei R. Doe for their opinions about Trump and Clinton. Politically biased ranting ensued and then continued during a long stretch of live show during which Lonesome Cowboy Dave forgot to call in. Long story short, Stang came up with plenty of excuses to unleash his Inner Dumbass. Dave finally did call in. Interspersed is music both old and new by, variously, Xposed 4heads, The Psycho Skeletons, LeMur, The Great Groovy Neptune, The Rudy Schwartz Project, Doug 3, The Fantastic Plastics, and Rev. Jimmy Ryan.
The beginning with Charleston Okafor is much longer on the Internet version than on the radio version, which is always cut down to just under one hour.

Hour of Slack #1580 - Post-19X-Day-Starwood-and-RNC

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 18:54:08 +0000

First time back in the WCSB studio after 19X-Day, Starwood 36, and the RNC! We changed our minds about releasing the X-Day recordings as fast as we can -- we'll save some of those for our 6 months in Texas when we don't have the station or Dave. But this show has the Lonesome Cowboy! -- and lots of music too: Xposed 4Heads, The Fantastic Plastics, O.O.B. Experience, Doktors 4 Extreme Prejudice. Discussions cover The Age of Stupid, current events, undercurrents, currants, the elections, and how to repeat, quip your jab and Slock on. Some anecdotes from the various events are told and the "Bob" Whoopee Cushion is finally explained in full.

Hour of Slack #1579 - 19X-Day at Tarzan's Radio Station

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 21:57:25 +0000

The true story of what happened at Wisteria during 19X-Day, or, more correctly, the 21st X-Day Drill, beginning June 30, "2016." These episodes are recorded not at WCSB but on Tarzan's Radio Station, set atop a picnic table in a semi-enclosed outdoor cafe. In Stang's intro he mistakenly claims that Rev. Susie the Floozie is on this episode, but in fact she was in the second hour (next week). This one has Dr. Hal, Rev. Stang, and Princess Wei talking about X-Day, stop-motion dinosaurs, Bible movies, devil skeletons and much more. First, however, we hear inspiring SubGenius hymns by The El Queso All-Stars, Rev. Phineas Narco, Dr. Hal remixed by Rev. Wilhelm Stahlhelm, Da Binci, and even, at the very end, Rev. Stang (with help from LeMur, the son of Stang, others). As usual, a rough text log or spoiler sheet for this episode is stashed away on in the radio section.

Hour of Slack #1578 - 19X-Day Radio Synesthesia with Dr. Howll 'n Callers (B)

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 21:22:56 +0000

This second hour of the pre-X-Day Radio Synesthesia show starts with the train wreck of Gov. Rocknar's immediate financial problems, but it grows into a powerful message of Slack. Dr. Sinister's studio guests are Dr. Howll, Rev. Stang, Princess Wei (that's pronounced "Wheeee!" by the way) and Lonesome Cowboy Dave. They grapple with callers Rocknar and No Money Mark, and each other, for the entire hour, aside from a very old StangCollage at the beginning. We're posting this episode a week early because we'll be back at Wisteria for Starwood Festival during the critical show-posting time-interstices. In two weeks this program will begin revealing the true story of what happened at Wisteria starting with the beginning of 19X-Day, or, more correctly, the 21st X-Day Drill, on June 27, "2016."

As always, a rough text log or spoiler sheet for this episode is stashed away on in the radio section.

Hour of Slack #1577 - 19X-Day Synesthesia with Dr. Howll 'n Dave

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 19:28:54 +0000

As most of you can probably deduce from your surroundings, this last July 5 wasn't July 5, 1998. So 1998 hasn't happened yet, and instead of having the alien AI called MWOWM do it all for us, we have to edit these hours of recordings from 19X-Day ourselves. (Actually it was the 21st X-Day Drill.) Luckily, the night before we left Cleveland for the Drill, we guested on Dr. Sinister's show Radio Synesthesia at WCSB for two hours, of which this is the first. Participants include Dr. Howll, Rev. Ivan Stang, Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave. X-Day itself is not discussed much, but everything else in the world is.

Hour of Slack #1576 - 19X-Day Begins with Dr. Howll

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 09:02:02 +0000

DAMN IT! Stang forgot to credit Rev. Walter Cosmac for the collage at the very beginning, and we don't have time to add that audio because the world is about to end and (though this makes no sense) we're rushing around trying to get all loose ends tied up before July 5. The big celebration at the remote secret campground being immanent, we flew in the illustrious and erudite Dr. Hal Robins or Dr. Howll to preside over this final broadcast. (In fact this is the first of a three hour broadcast from WCSB that lapped over into Dr. Sinister's two-hour show after The Hour of Slack. Those hours will be available later, albeit not on Earth Farm One for much longer.) An operatic song by Xposed 4heads, "Hot Aliens," is a perfect opening anthem for X-Day. Then Dr. Hal is introduced, Lonesome Cowboy Dave phones in, Princess Wei starts glowing, and the end game is afoot. We haven't had time to listen back to it so that's really all we know at this writing except that the show ends with The Rudy Schwartz Project covering the Swinging Love Corpses classic, "Pick a Booger." Thanks for all the Slack, and see you on The Saucers.

Hour of Slack #1575 - Walkers for Trump

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:24:44 +0000

This was one talkative episode! The music at the beginning includes excellent brand new pieces by David Morrison and Pilgrim Speakeasy, and there's an RSP dingleberry at the end. In between it's nonstop banter, blather and ranting as we gear up for both X-Day/Starwood and the Inevitable Mass Trump Slapdown that we suspect is finally brewing. The problems of Facebook and "real" names comes up. The Romero-based Living Dead movies and the Walking Dead show as metaphors for the Dumbing of America are explored, painfully. Lonesome Cowboy Dave expresses his dislike of superheroes. Stang gets possessed by that redneck wingnut demon again.

Hour of Slack #1574 - The Buzzard in the Coal Mine

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 19:45:47 +0000

There's a new, all-original CD out by The Rudy Schwartz Project, and we haven't even The opening clip of dialog from HAIL CAESAR will make you want to see the movie, and is followed by "Pop That Bulbous Scrotum," one of FOUR new Rudy Schwartz Projects songs (of which "Ted Cruz's Mouth" is not on the radio version). We have two different Trump Blather mashups, one by Rev. Cuttlefish and one by Rev. Phineas Narco. Xposed 4Heads are again exposed with the song "Generica." Then it's live in the studio with Lonesome Cowboy Dave on the phone and Stang & Wei trying to make sense of it, some. Stang reads a report texted in that afternoon by Dr. K'taden Legume regarding a very revealing experience he had on "Amazon Island." This leads into a discussion, sometimes heated, of Moral Outrage Addicts on Facebook, a type that seems to be growing and was in furious bloom that particular weekend. The Internet and especially Facebook's role in the dumbing of America are tied to the rise of the PROUD TO BE STUPID or "revenge of the caveman" mood of the country.

If you (like we did) wonder what "real first President museum" Dave was talking about at the beginning, Here's a funny article about it

Hour of Slack #1573 - They Saved Grandpa's Gauze Pt. 1

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 20:23:10 +0000

There's a new, all-original CD out by The Rudy Schwartz Project, and we haven't even played everything off the last RSP album ("Sunshine Supershits," a collection of covers). So we're playing the first half of this brilliant bulldada rock opera of an album for the first half of the show. Tighten down your grommets for it! There is also a great new song by Xposed 4Heads. After that we get The Call from Lonesome Cowboy Dave. Topics of discussion include: "Bob" and Reagan. The blowhole of America, Moby Dick and monster hunt legends as the basis of literature. The Sensitive Bone vs. The Funny Bone. Pyroflatulation. Dave's parasitic twin. The Drs. 4 Wotan Audience Replacement technique. Fossil ghost tracks at Stang Ranch. Wei downloads a Fart Piano and we sing a song about Ranch Style Beans.

Hour of Slack #1572 - Ejerkulations of Epictetus

Mon, 30 May 2016 12:14:36 +0000

Rampant theological unseemliness abounds in this free-for-all-except-the-slaves. Lonesome Cowboy Dave, out of the hospital again, gets us all worked up about God's dress. Terrible news of the day is discuss-ted. P.R. Gnus returns. We hear quotations from The Enchiridion of Epictetus, ancient philosophy recently republished by A Man of Letters (Onan Canobite), and we learn all about the historical Cleopatra from Hal and Philo. Old music from ESO joins new from The Rudy Schwartz Project, The Fantastic Plastics, Rev, Jimmy Ryan, Rural War Room and Miss Murphy the Bearded Lady. Also, the word of "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius.

Hour of Slack #1571 - Godzilla's Travels

Mon, 23 May 2016 18:51:00 +0000

Lonesome Cowboy Dave was sick, so this is a Daveless live show, with Rev. Stang reading cool stuff such as a great rant by The Good Rev. Roger, and more of the juicy parts from Gulliver's Travels (1726). Also featured is music by and a discussion about the recent Sanza music CD of Halim "Pharoah" El-Dabh and Ron "Pyrosonic" Slabe. Instead of Dave and Stang blabbering, it's Dr. Hal and Dr. Drummond from an old Puzzling Evidence show. The music however is all new from The Fantastic Plastics, The Rudy Schwartz Project, The Psycho Skeletons, Rev. Jimmy Ryan and Rural War Room. The RWR pieces especially will rip your head in twain if you listen in headphones or brainbuds.

Hour of Slack #1570 - Gulliver's Travels - The Dirty Parts

Mon, 16 May 2016 21:24:03 +0000

Rev. Stang reads selections from Gulliver's Travels -- the passages in which Gulliver needs to go to the bathroom, but the bathrooms are all either too small or too large. Lonesome Cowboy Dave provides his own insights into the great Jonathan Swift novel of 1726. Stangs gets all worked up about Trump and the value of boredom. First, though, there's a great rant by Rev. Susie the Floozie about "Bob," "Bob" hymns by Rev. Bleepo Abernathy and Mark Mothersbaugh, two count 'em two new Rudy Schwartz Project pieces, Jimmy Ryan guitar, and some discussion of haters by Dr. Philo Drummond and Dr. Hal on The Puzzling Evidence Show.

Hour of Slack #1569 - Southern Spoutin's in Slangs

Mon, 09 May 2016 20:05:52 +0000

First live show from WCSB in six months! The Daves and StangDoes invent several new languages, partially inspired by the book "Southern Sayin's for Yankees and Other Immigrants." Before that, however, there is an amazing collage by Rev. Susie the Floozie about "Bob" and Connie, and new music is unveiled by The Rudy Schwartz Project (covering The Shaggs!!!), Rev. Jimmy Ryan and Rural War Room, plus a brand new "Bob" hymn by Rev. Morgan Gutentag. There are also some cold, wet sound effects and a canned recording from Stang Ranch about the Stang Ranch dinosaur tracks and what other creatures may be leaving footprints in those parts.

Hour of Slack #1568 - Lonesome Cowboy Dave In Space

Wed, 04 May 2016 00:37:45 +0000

Back in 1994, Hour of Slack came from Dallas, but we used a lot of material recorded whenever Rev. Stang visited Cleveland and sat in on the late Chas Smith's show, "ESO Radio/Brain Rot Theater" on WCSB. One of the best chunks of one of the best of those shows, "Lonesome Cowboy Dave in Space," comprises the majority of this. Many listeners thought it was SCRIPTED! What was scripted however was the intro to the show, detailing the truly dire deadlines and circumstances of The SubGenius Foundation at that time. Also includes music from Nenslo, The Rudy Schwartz Project and Doktorz 4 "Bob".

Hour of Slack #1567 - Lonesome Cowboy Dave In Hell

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:23:00 +0000

We're busy packing to move the Bulldada Time Control Labs back to Cleveland Bluffs for the summer, so it's (still) rerun time. Luckily, this particular rerun is one of the best of the 1990s ESO/SubGenius live radio collaborations, from ESO Swamp Radio on WCSB Cleveland. Chas Smith still had his life, and his original band, and you hear them playing along musically with wherever Stang and Lonesome Cowboy Dave go -- which was primarily to Hell and back. It is a torturous route, but it has a happy ending: Dave saves the world, and Chas covers a Residents classic.
