Comment on On Replacing your MINIs Battery by Mary

I need to replace the battery on my 2007 Clubman and was told i still have to go to the dealer to reset my electrical settings? Is this true?

Comment on Thoughts About the Automatic Transmission by Michael Morine

DB: I'm wondering if the rpm drop when put into full automatic mode in 6th is the lock up of the torque converter. Chad will know for sure. I think many of the modern automatics have torque converter lock up to improve mpg... If rpm drops it is real and the only explanation that makes sense to me.... Mahalo Mike

I hated my R56, only stayed with me about 6 weeks. Supposed to be best available at the time but just no fun to own. Of course back then my other car was the original GP so maybe unfair comparison! "enjoying the journey" - very important, good to hear. Working from home, I do miss a nice drive with music ... solved by moving my good stereo into the office :)

Thanks Mike! Maybe it was just that car that was bad? Maybe the previous owner didn't take very good care of it? Maybe the build quality on the 1st Gen R56 Coopers wasn't up to snuff? Regardless, the R59 is much nicer and you were missed at AMVIV! I'm sure another trip to Vegas will be happening at some point this year, maybe I'll see you then!

Don, I'm glad you are enjoying the R59 so much more than the R56. As you know I have a very early '07 R56 (3/07 build) and I have not had the kinds of issues you had with your R56. It's 10 yrs old now with 70K on the clock and I still enjoy driving it. I just got the engine repaired on the latest addition to the garage which was a good test of my mechanical skills. It's not street legal yet as it couldn't pass smog with the challenged engine, hopefully get it registered this week and all legal so I can see what it is all about...that's the problem when you buy something with a broken engine, I'm doing the initial road test some 6 plus months after buying it!! Sorry I missed you at AMVIV....perhaps the next celebration of a milestone WhiteRoof episode...

I purchased a slime kit with air compressor. However when travelling a long distance I carry a spare tire not mounted on rim. Just incase I was somewhere they did not have my tire size.

I have roadside with my insurance too, which is helpful. I don't think there is a well for the spare, but if my load is light, it will fit in the boot or behind the seats (I think). I'd figure out a way to get it there.

Again, not that it matters that much. I did drive across the US in a JCW roadster without a spare, no problem. But that little bit of piece of mind would be nice.
