JSON Feeds

Wed, 17 May 2017 17:36:04 -0800

Manton Reece and Brent Simmons noticed developers avoiding XML in favor of JSON for APIs. JSON is simpler to read and write, and it's less prone to bugs. So [they] developed JSON Feed, a format similar to RSS and Atom but in JSON. It reflects the lessons learned from our years of work reading and publishing feeds. via daringfireball See the spec. It's at version 1, which may be the only version ever needed. If future versions are needed, version 1 feeds will still be valid feeds.

Sea Eagle Cam.

Tue, 16 Aug 2011 05:18:27 -0800

Chat Room Rules : 1. Be respectful, polite, and focused on eagles. Despite the collapse of the nesting tree earlier in the year this remarkable couple have built a new nest in double-quick time and recently laid two eggs. Through EagleCAM, you have a unique and amazing opportunity to follow their progress as we count down to the hatching of the first egg [S1] on or around the 14th of August [and the second, S2, the next day]. The (wild, resident) White-Bellied Sea Eagles at Birds Australia's Sydney Olympic Park Discovery Centre have hatched two chicks. The live feed under the "EagleCAM" link will be black and white IR night vision for a few hours yet, but the brooding parent can be surprisingly active at night. Viewers are requested to email Birds Australia if they see any shift changes or feeding during the night (email address is down the page under the live video). Video of last years chicks being fed by both parents at three days old. More photos, questions and discussion at EagleCAM's facebook page (no login required). Eagle cams previously.

ART FIGHTS AGAINST WAR AND STUPIDITY!

Tue, 08 Dec 2009 19:46:15 -0800

Ah! The Hopeful Pageantry of Bread and Puppet documents the radical puppet theater's Domestic Resurrection Circus, held every summer on its Glover, Vermont grounds from 1975 to 1998, and which featured puppeteers from around the world. They no longer hold the yearly festival, as the crowds grew out of control, but they are still active [ 2009 documentary | part 2 | 3 ], and as always, serving free bread and art as panacea. There's plenty more Bread and Puppet Theater on Youtube. Does anyone know the recipe for their awesome bread? ... It was a sourdough rye, smeared with garlic aioli ...

Fri, 27 Apr 2007 07:16:04 -0800

Feed2JS is an amazingly cool (free) service that lets you harness the wealth of RSS feeds out there for yourself (embedding them in your blog template or web page) in a very simple and highly configurable way. Style it with one of the available CSS styles, or write your own. If you like you can also download the whole Feed2JS application/script to run on your own server. (Step-by-step tutorial inside)

Automatic Media is gone

Fri, 08 Jun 2001 12:05:21 -0800

Automatic Media is gone Confirming earlier speculation: Automatic Media's homepage announces that "AS OF JUNE 8, 2001, Automatic Media, Inc. has ceased operations due to an inability to secure additional financing." What does this mean for all the Automatic Media sites? Will Suck's vacation be permanent? Thoughts?

Bye-bye Feed.

Thu, 07 Jun 2001 17:20:45 -0800

Bye-bye Feed. No press release to link to, so I might be jumping the gun a bit, but my sources say everyone at Automatic Media was fired. That includes all of Feed and the production guy for Suck, though it appears Suck will be going on alone. Apparently, the line is is they're looking for some quick cash to keep going, but I'm afraid I've heard that line often with no results. Supposedly they'll announce it tomorrow, since no one will be around to update the site. Very sad day.

one bad decision after another...

Mon, 23 Apr 2001 09:43:29 -0800

one bad decision after another... "Three months ago, our new sibling, Plastic, took its first breath and then took off. Being the opportunists that we are, we decided to do some genetic engineering, grafting some Plastic DNA into the FEED site. Today you are seeing the results of this experiment. There are two major changes, and for any long-time FEED readers these will feel more like revivals than outright novelties. The first is the new Filter section, our very own web log..."

Erik Davis on Feed:

Mon, 22 Jan 2001 13:40:39 -0800

Erik Davis on Feed: "I feel compelled to mention the strangely underreported fact that, thanks to the FCC, all U.S. cell phones will soon be required to pack GPS units (or some equivalent tech) that will allow their location to be fixed the moment that 911 is dialed... the FCC has also ruled that wireless carriers, and not users, own GPS location data, and can freely sell it to third parties... your radio-cum-PDA-cum-cell phone... may want to tell you about the great deal on Beanie Babies or Canon's 15 x 45 image-stabilized binoculars that awaits you two shops down to the right."
