The Ed Show

Fri, Jun 19 2009 21:30:00 GMT

You know, I was going to write about the NHL Awards Show, but who cares? Chaka Khan and Robin Thicke? Really? Instead, just listen to the latest episode of The Ed Show. It's swell.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Jun 18 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed was there right from the start, and then we did another recap of that glorious, glorious Penguin victory with Yahoo's Sean Leahy and a very bitter Matt Diggs. In the second hour, Cousin Brandon and Larry did their Top 11 Game Shows, and we closed things out with some good ol' conspiracy talk.

A Look Back

Tue, Jun 16 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Paying tribute to the Stanley Cup champs.

Drink Like a Champion

Sun, Jun 14 2009 21:30:00 GMT

WPXI.com has a swell slideshow of the Stanley Cup champs out on the town. No word yet on where the Wings cried last night.

Don't Cry About It

Sun, Jun 14 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Nice to see the Red Wings and their fans are as classy as ever...

Victory!

Sat, Jun 13 2009 21:30:00 GMT

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Sat, Jun 13 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I'll be writing about the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins all weekend, but Larry and I threw together a quick radio show right after the game. Our pal Dave Dameshek even stopped by to join in the fun.

The Ed Show

Fri, Jun 12 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Need something to do before Game Seven? Give the newest episode of The Ed Show a whirl. The Ed crowns Miss Ed-USA and talks about his new job delivering meat door-to-door.

Thu, Jun 11 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Kid Crosby also talked to the media. So here's the transcript along with my Game Seven prediction.

Dan Bylsma Transcript

Thu, Jun 11 2009 21:30:00 GMT

And here's Dan Bylsma's media transcript. He talks about how he approaches practice and how his life has changed since becoming Pittsburgh head coach, aside from the increased intake of pork BBQ burritos.

Mike Babcock Transcript

Thu, Jun 11 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Mike Babcock met with the media on Thursday. Here's the transcript. There's some interesting stuff on Hossa, Rafalski, and even Igor Larionov.

Save Fleury!

Wed, Jun 10 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Game Seven, here we come. And it's all thanks to Marc-Andre Fleury... and Rob Scuderi.

Nothing To It But To Do It

Tue, Jun 09 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Why all the doom and gloom? They play seven for a reason.

Motor City Massacre

Sun, Jun 07 2009 21:30:00 GMT

That was certainly humiliating.

Putting Marc-Andre Fleury's accomplishments in perspective.

Dave Dameshek Podcast

Sat, Jun 06 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Dave was kind enough to have me on his podcast this afternoon to talk about the Stanley Cup Finals. Don't forget to visit Dave's 710 ESPN page and sign up to his podcast through the iTunes. Thanks.

The Ed Show

Fri, Jun 05 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I actually had to miss that glorious Game Four, but I'll try and write something on the series a little later. Until then, please enjoy a 15-minute edition of The Ed Show.

Lucky Burrito

Thu, Jun 04 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Penguins have a new good luck charm. And this one doesn't sing. Well, at least not until after you eat it.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Jun 04 2009 21:30:00 GMT

It was quite the fake radio show. We talked Stanley Cup Finals, "Free Radio," "Stripes," and Shakespeare. And The Ed started his own newspaper. So that's something.

That's More Like It

Wed, Jun 03 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Penguins got a 4-2 win in Game Three to keep hope alive. And, oddly enough, it was their worst game of the series.

Enough Already!

Mon, Jun 01 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Jeff Passan is a clown. Does anyone who gets paid to write about hockey know a damn thing about the sport?

Deja Vu All Over Again

Mon, Jun 01 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

(Sunshine) Detroit

Sun, May 31 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Nice to see the Red Wings still have that horseshoe shoved up their ass.

Stanley Cup Finals Preview

Fri, May 29 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Gee, I wonder who I'm going to pick?

The Ed Show

Fri, May 29 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Pastor Reeves heard The Ed was talking bad about him, so he called the show to defend himself against the scurrilous charges.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, May 28 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Detroit fan Matt Diggs and I made a bet about the Stanley Cup Finals, The Ed called several times, and we did our Top 11 "King of Queens" episodes. And don't forget to watch "Free Radio."

Blown Away

Wed, May 27 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Penguins made short work of the Hurricanes, beating them 4-1 to complete the sweep and earn a return trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. There was much rejoicing.

Shameful

Sun, May 24 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Chicago was terrible in Game Four. And it's hard to believe, because Joel Quenneville seems like such a great leader. And, yes, that is sarcasm.

No Fair

Sun, May 24 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Carolina and Pittsburgh would be a great series... if the Penguins didn't have Geno Malkin and Kid Crosby.

The Ed Show

Fri, May 22 2009 21:30:00 GMT

No time to write about the Pens at the moment, but please enjoy the latest installment of The Ed Show. It's Edtastic.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, May 21 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Dave Dameshek and Cousin Brandon battle Larry in "Rocky IV" trivia. Plus, we talk hockey, learn what's in The Ed's garage, and find out baseball is Rafael Belliard's game.

Flower Power

Tue, May 19 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Penguins were awful, but Marc-Andre Fleury saved the day.

Where Have All the Shadows Gone?

Mon, May 18 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The shadow is solid gone in today's NHL. Is it due to the rule changes? Or was the tactic itself retired in honor of Esa Tikkanen?

Backstrom Agrees

Sun, May 17 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Remember how I just said Crosby is better than Ovechkin? Well, Nicklas Backstrom agrees.

King Crosby

Sun, May 17 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I talked about it a lot on the last fake radio show, but I had to write something about the Crosby-Ovechkin finale.

Conference Finals Preview

Sat, May 16 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Here's a quick look at the two Conference Finals. Could we have a rematch from last year?

The Ed Show

Fri, May 15 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I'll recap the Game Sevens and preview the Conference Finals this weekend. But in the meantime, enjoy the latest episode of The Ed Show. The Ed's pal Dave Dameshek makes an appearance.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, May 14 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Kid Crosby and the Pens stuck it to those filthy Capitals in Game Seven. We were live on the air for the third period. And it was glorious.

Wow

Tue, May 12 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Caps were a might impressive in gritting out a stunning 5-4 OT win in Pittsburgh. And the Hawks are into the Campbell Conference Finals thanks to a wild third period.

Crosby, Malkin Make Difference

Sun, May 10 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Pittsburgh made it three straight, escaping Washington with a 4-3 overtime win thanks to its two superstars.

Down Goes Drago

Sat, May 9 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Pittsburgh's Game Four victory was another mistake-filled contest, but at least Simeon Varlamov made most of the mistakes.

The Ed Show

Fri, May 8 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed did push-ups live on the air and talked to a bunch of his pals, including Dick Banks and Security Guy Irv. The Ed also answered questions from the Dameshek.com message boards and tried to get a job selling insurance. He ended the show by challenging The Baby to a fight.

Enter Malkin

Thu, May 7 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Pittsburgh's not done yet. Evgeni Malkin reminded everyone why he belongs in the great Crosby-Ovechkin debate with a brilliant performance in Game Three.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, May 7 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Earl Sleek from Battle of California returned to talk about how the Ducks are going to stomp those filthy Red Wings. And Larry did his Top 11 "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episodes. Pretty, pretty good.

That's a Shame

Wed, May 6 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Quick whistles are awesome. And the Coyotes could be solid gone.

Dave Dameshek Podcast

Wed, May 6 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I was on our pal Dave's podcast on Tuesday to talk about the Pens-Caps series. I also slipped in some "Deadliest Warrior" talk. You know you want to listen.

This Is the Playoffs, Right?

Tue, May 5 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby both bagged hat tricks, but don't let the superstar heroics fool you. Bad hockey is still bad hockey. And both teams have been dreadful.

Don't Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth

Mon, May 4 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Three road teams have managed to capture a game on enemy ice. And if the Caps continue their charitable ways, the Pens will keep things rolling.

The Ed Show

Sun, May 3 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I just realized I forgot to link to the most recent episode of The Ed Show. So if you missed it, give it a whirl...

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Apr 30 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I've still been under the weather and whatnot, so if you want recaps of the Game Sevens and our preview of Round Two, you'll have to listen to the big fake radio show. Lucky you.

It Happens Every Spring

Tue, Apr 28 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Wasn't this supposed to be the year San Jose won the Cup? Oh well.

Teemu-Cheechoo Tribute

Tue, Apr 28 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Well, the Sharks choked again. Shocking, I know. But until I get a chance to write something about it, here's our pal Dave Dameshek singing about the end of Teemu and Cheechoo.

Blame Tortorella

Mon, Apr 27 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I picked the Rangers in six, and it was all going according to Hoyle until John Tortorella screwed things up.

Talbot TKOs Philly

Sun, Apr 26 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Broad Street Buttercups are going home, and it's all because they won a fight. God bless irony.

Fey's a Fox!

Sat, Apr 25 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Yes we can! Dave Dameshek finally respected the will of the people, allowing Tina Fey into the Land of the Fox where she belongs. And Dave even found time to take another shot at Scott Hartnell. Nice.

Barry Melrose Interview

Fri, Apr 24 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Our pal Dave Dameshek interviewed Barry Melrose today. Give it a whirl. You know, I once saw Melrose buy a hot dog on the streets of Hartford...

The Ed Show

Fri, Apr 24 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I'm still under the weather, and we've got all sorts of house-buying grief at the moment, so no time for hockey. But let me just say Dan Bylsma's decision to bench Letang and Sykora for Game Five was Mike Milbury dumb. Not dressing Godard for Game Three was stupid, but this was a special kind of idiotic. Oh well. At least there's a new episode of The Ed Show.

Scott Hartnell Song

Thu, Apr 23 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Since we had to cancel the fake radio show last night, we also had to scrap our plans to make fun of Scott Hartnell. But thankfully, our pal Dave Dameshek picked up the slack. Billy Joel never sounded so good.

Same Old Sorry Sharks?

Mon, Apr 20 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I'm a bit under the weather at the moment, but here are a few quick thoughts on the Sharks, Caps, and Flyers.

Vote Fey... Again!

Sat, Apr 18 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Yeah, the playoffs are in full swing, but there's a more important matter at hand.

Dave and Teemu

Fri, Apr 17 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Prior to Anaheim's 2-0 win last night over the Fish, our pal Dave Dameshek interviewed the great Teemu Selanne. Dave even played some of his wonderful Teemu-Cheechoo songs for the Finnish Flash. It's good stuff. Now if only I can get Mark Linn-Baker to come on our show and listen to the songs I wrote about him.

The Ed Show

Fri, Apr 17 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed's job walking dogs comes to an unfortunate end, and he also unveils two new songs.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Apr 16 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Yahoo's Sean Leahy previewed the NHL playoffs with us and did his Top 11 Breakfast Cereals. And Leahy loves crunchy orange balls. The Ed stopped by and rolled around in the grass. Then Cousin Brandon battled Larry in "Brewster's Millions" trivia.

Playoff Preview: Wales Conference

Tue, Apr 14 2009 21:30:00 GMT

All the favorites are going to advance, right? Not so fast, Washington.

Playoff Preview: Campbell Conference

Mon, Apr 13 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Vancouver is a lock. Anaheim and Calgary could pull off upsets, but I'm still picking the favorites.

NHL Adjusted Point Totals

Sun, Apr 12 2009 21:30:00 GMT

It seems people dig the crazy math, so I adjusted all the top scoring seasons in NHL history to the points-per-game average from 1985-86 when Gretzky set the record. It's some wild, wild stuff.

NHL News and Notes

Sun, Apr 12 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Franzen re-signs and Lemaire splits.

The Ed Show

Fri, Apr 10 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed finds out he's getting cheated at his new dog walking job.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Apr 09 2009 21:30:00 GMT

We were able to talk a little hockey between The Ed's repeated phone calls.

Dave Dameshek Podcast

Thu, 09 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Despite our best efforts, Tina Fey was denied entry into the Land of the Fox. Shameful. Just shameful.

Putting Green in Perspective

Sat, 04 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Mike Green's 30 goals in today's NHL are all the more impressive when compared to the historic seasons of Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey, who both played during higher-scoring eras.

NHL Adjusted Goal Totals

Sat, 04 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Yet another Suite 101 thing. This time, I adjusted the best goal-scoring seasons in NHL history to place them in the context of 1981-82 when Gretzky set the record.

The Ed Show

Fri, 03 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

In a truly memorable episode, Dick Banks stops by to unveil three songs he recorded with The Ed.

The Great Debate Continues: Gretzky vs Lemieux

Thu, 02 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

That Gretzky-Lemieux article I wrote for Suite 101 is gettin' all sorts of feedback, and some are wondering if Gretzky and the Oilers were solely responsible for driving up the league scoring average during the early 1980s. And, well, no. They weren't. Read all about it.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, Apr 02 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed tells us about the price of various food items at a spring training baseball game, Cousin Brandon stops by to talk about Tina Fey and being a Red Sox fan, and then we go Around BlogTalk with some Rob Van Dam.

The Brilliance of Bobby Orr

Wed, 01 Apr 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Here's another article I wrote for that Suite 101 place. This one looks at Bobby Orr's ridiculous scoring numbers. I put them into 1985-86 terms to compare them to Paul Coffey, and then I update them to today's standard to compare them to what Mike Green is doing.

The Greatest One: Gretzky or Lemieux?

Tue, 31 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Here's an article I wrote for the freelance site Suite 101. They have their own peculiar formatting and whatnot, so don't blame me. But the story shows how Gretzky's scoring numbers are inflated due to the era in which he played. When the numbers are adjusted according to the league's overall goals-per-game average, Lemieux's stats are superior across the board.

Notice: Things Are Changing

Tue, 31 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

A few changes are coming to LCS.

Trumps Never Quit

Mon, 30 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Buffalo Donald Trumps won't go down without a fight. But it might be too little, too late.

Vote Fey!

Fri, 27 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

I was on our pal Dave Dameshek's podcast yesterday to announce Tina Fey's candidacy for the Land of the Fox. And I need your help. Yes we can!

The Ed Show

Fri, 27 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

More fake radio gold with The Ed. The Baby, Franklin, and Security Guy Irv all make appearances.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, 26 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed, Zippy, and Captain Justice all made appearances. I also did my first fantasy baseball auction draft during the show. Yeehaw.

The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh

Mon, 23 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a new fight song. Tell your friends.

The Ed Show

Sat, 21 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

The Ed makes fake radio history every week. This time he visits a McDonald's drive-thru.

Send in the Clown

Fri, 20 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Who wants to punch Alexander Ovechkin in the face? The line forms behind me.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, 19 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Captain Justice, The Ed, and Cousin Brandon. That's a full show.

All Overlooked Team

Tue, 17 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

No one's really noticed, but these guys have had some swell seasons.

Roy Still King

Mon, 16 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Martin Brodeur is about to break Patrick Roy's wins record. But I've seen Patrick Roy play. Patrick Roy is a friend of mine. And, Martin Brodeur, you're no Patrick Roy.

The Ed Show

Fri, 13 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Don't forget to listen to The Ed Show. And tell one friend about it. Because if you don't do it, then you can't do it, and it won't get done.

LCS Hockey Radio Show

Thu, 12 Mar 2009 21:30:00 GMT

Top 11 "Mr. Show" skits.
