Kids Sick? Give them Lollipops - HotSpotMama Find

Sat, 14 Oct 2006 07:31:06 -0700

It finally feels like its fall in the Northeast. I'm seeing leaves fall and kids starting to cough. I thought of this article I wrote back during the summer and thought it was very appropriate right now. Hope it makes your winter a little easier. Here it is. ..

If candy wasn’t so bad for my kids, I would let them consume it 24/7. Nothing seems to quiet a whinning child as quickly and effectively as candy. Now imagine your child sick at home and whinning and having the amazing ability to say, “Hey, I’ve got a great idea, why don’t you have a lollipop?” Your child will look at you with questioning eyes. Is it a trick?

Tricycle as a Stroller Attachment- HotSpotMama Find

Sun, 25 Jun 2006 11:54:10 -0700

I(image) Swiss Strolli 1 was looking on the internet when I came this stroller accessory. Essentially, it is an attachable tricycle. You can attach the tricycle to the stoller (stroller is not included). Just wanted to restate it because it took me by surprise the first time I saw it. Let me describe the product to you and then I’ll let you know my opinion.

Ordinary Bear by Day, Light Up Bear by Night

Mon, 12 Nov 2007 05:00:00 -0800

(image)

My youngest son loves stuffed animals. I think the stuffed animals in his bed take up more room than he does. I hate stuffed animals. And with the holiday season around the corner, I know I have to prepare myself for more stuffed animals. Did I mention I hate stuffed animals? But I've got to admit, I wouldn't mind my kids getting this stuffed animal as a present. read more »

Coolest Combo: Phone and Video Baby Monitor - HotSpotMama Find

Wed, 13 Sep 2006 17:21:20 -0700

(image) KX-TGA573SWhen I had my first baby (who is now 5 years old), we bought this great video baby monitor. We thought it was the coolest thing that we could watch our child while he was sleeping without him seeing us. The problem I had was it was pretty big and bright. The screen had to be about four inches. So when we went to bed and left the monitor on (yes, typical first time mom), it pretty much lite up our entire room. Also, it was a huge eye sore on my dresser.

You can avoid all that now. Panasonic has come along with the KX-TGA573S Panasonic 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange® Expandable Digital Cordless Camera. It is essentially a video monitor that can be used with a compatable Panasonic color phone handset.

Best Present for New Parents: Phone and Video Baby Monitor Combo

Wed, 29 Nov 2006 13:05:22 -0800

(image) Back in September, I wrote an article called "Coolest Combo: Phone and Video Baby Monitor - HotSpotMama Find". I really loved this product when I found. I still love it - so much that I decided to repeat myself.

Holidays are coming up fast. This has got to be one of the best presents for new parents. I was walking through two of large baby stores today and came to a realization, this is still a brilliant product There is nothing else out there that's similar. Here's my article from September:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Looking for a great video baby monitor?

When I had my first baby (who is now 5 years old), we bought a video baby monitor. We thought it was the coolest thing that we could watch our child while he was sleeping without him seeing us. The problem was that it was too big and a bit too bright. The screen had to be about four inches wide. So when we went to bed and left the monitor on (yes, like a typical first time mom), it pretty much lit up our entire room. Also, it was a huge eyesore on my dresser. Luckily, you can avoid all that now. read more »

Keyboards for Little People

Sun, 01 Oct 2006 07:10:00 -0700

(image) MiniKeyBoardThese days, I am constantly on the computer and my wrist are killing me. In this day and age, I'm not the only one on the computer. So are both my boys. Both my kids started using the computer when they turned three years old.

If adults have so many problems because they use the computer so much, I can't imagine how difficult and painful it must be for our kids (and anyone who is smaller than the average adult) to use an adult sized computer keyboard. Thank goodness other people are on the same wavelength and have created interesting solutions... many inventors are ahead of me on this one.

Here are a bunch of the keyboards I have found that fit little people hands. read more »

Cool Diaper Bags for Dad

Thu, 31 Jan 2008 04:40:16 -0800

(image)

This may not be the diaper bag I choose for myself, but this is one I would definitely consider for my husband (and many of my mom friends). When my kids were younger, they didn't have as many choices for dads (or maybe I was just too darn tired to look on theInternet for them). read more »

Inflatable Haunted House as PlayHouse

Sat, 21 Oct 2006 18:19:27 -0700

(image) Inflatable Haunted HouseI love Halloween. Seriously, as a kid, what is better than knocking at someone's door and having someone hand you candy. When my oldest son was two years old, he got the hang of trick-or-treating a little too quickly. At the age of one, my youngest child had more candy from trick-or-treating than I ate the first 20 years of my life (no, he didn't eat all of the candy, he just accumulated it). read more »

I love the decorations too. I came across this inflatable haunted house that looks like a giant playhouse. Its better than all those other inflatables they have out for Halloween because it does more than just sits there looking spooky. You can walk (or run) through it.

Roman Arch Kit - A Geometric Wooden Puzzle: Product Review

Tue, 26 Jun 2007 02:01:23 -0700

(image)

We went to a children's museum a couple of months ago and it had a roman arch puzzle. If you assembled all the wood pieces together correctly, it could support itself with out any help (like from nails). My kids spent quite a while on it. It was really amazing when it was completed. So when I saw this Roman Arch wooden puzzle available from Edmund Scientific, I thought what a great puzzle for my kids. read more »

Ice Cream Flavored Toothpaste

Wed, 13 Dec 2006 00:00:00 -0800

(image) Banilla BlingI took my boys to the dentist on Monday. Before the dentist cleaned each child's teeth, he asked what flavor he liked. My oldest got his teeth cleaned with bubble gum flavored toothpaste. My youngest got his teeth cleaned with marshmallow flavored toothpaste. This experience left me wondering why there weren't more flavored toothpastes being sold. We've seen bubble gum flavored toothpaste at the stores before but never marshmallow.

So, I'm walking out of the dentist office and I stop at the desk to make sure that my insurance information is good when I see tubes of weird looking toothpaste on the check out desk. It looks weird because I've never seen this toothpaste in the stores before. I look closer and pick up the first one; it says it vanilla ice cream flavored. read more »

Little Urinals for Your Little Man- HotSpotMama Finds

Mon, 17 Jul 2006 19:37:20 -0700

(image) Peter PottyNo one likes potty training. But maybe my find will make your life a little easier. Maybe, I said.

The product I found is a kid sized urinal called the Peter Potty by Visionaire Products. The Peter Potty is the world's only flushable toddler urinal. The company claims that the Peter Potty will reduce the potty training time by at least 6 months on average (up to 15 months). read more »

Adorable Animal Backpacks

Mon, 02 Oct 2006 17:19:48 -0700

(image) frogBackpacks were always a big hit at my house. Both my boys love wearing them. I guess it makes them feel like big kids.

I think these pictures say it all. Is it possible for someone to make a cuter backpack? (I would love to see a link if these are not the cutest ones you've seen). read more »

Chopsticks for Kids

Thu, 12 Oct 2006 07:35:40 -0700

(image) ChopStick KidsI grew up using chopsticks. Personally, there isn't a type of Asian food that I don't like (ok - so there really isn't any ethnic food I don't like). In this day and age where Chinese food restaurants are as common as the local pizza shop, all kids should get to know how to use chopsticks. My kids have a couple of pairs of them and when we go to restaurants, the wait staff usually makes their own version of children's chopsticks. Here are couple I've found for the kids (and grownups). read more »

Great Summer Products - Hotspotmama recommendations

Fri, 26 May 2006 19:29:44 -0700

(image) Ahhh, the lazy days of summer. I am so excited that summer is almost here. My boys are asking me everyday when we can go to the pool. I love summer because you’re not on a strict schedule. Of course, I wonder how I’m going to get my postings done in the summer but it’ll work out. Everything always does. Anyway, let me tell you about a few interesting products I’ve come across that will make summer a little easier and safer. BTW - I try not to pick the products that you see in the big baby stores (unless they are new) because, frankly, you see them when you go to the big baby stores. You don’t need to see them here too. read more »

Children and Safety Products: Hot Spot Mama's Recommendations

Wed, 12 Apr 2006 08:06:03 -0700

One thing all parents have in common is that we are all concerned about the safety of our kids. That's why there was so much excitement around the round baby car seat featured on last week's episode of American Inventor. So I decided to do a posting about two other creative products that may help in protecting our kids. The first one is a child safety alarm. I've got two young boys so this one is of particular interest to me.

Safety 1st makes the In-Reach Child Tracking System. It can monitor how far your child goes in any location; the mall, the park or even your own backyard.

Spend Less Time Cleaning: Hotspotmama's Favorite Products

Tue, 25 Apr 2006 19:17:34 -0700

I was never a neat person before I had kids but for some reason now I am obsessed with it. Not that you could tell if you walk in my house. But that's not my fault. I blame my two boys. Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. That's what I do. I can have a room completely clean and they could destroy it in less than 10 minutes. I guess you could say they have a gift.

Does anyone else have a child that just loves arts and crafts? I just can not keep up with my older son’s demand for it. I also can not keep up with the clean up. I have red acrylic paint stuck in the grout of my kitchen floor.

I recently started buying disposible plastic tablecloths (I know its not environmentally friendly) to cover the

Decorating Kid's Rooms – HotSpotMama's Product Recommendations

Wed, 07 Jun 2006 19:14:04 -0700

Last summer, I wanted to redecorate my son’s room. I just assumed that I would paint the room. Maybe stencil it if I had enough courage. While I was searching for bedroom furniture, I came across wall murals for kids rooms. You put it up just like you would wall paper. What a great alternative to just painting. I thought that was pretty much the coolest thing I had seen. Until I came across self-adhesive wall decals made by Blik.

New Car Seat: The SafeGuard Child Safety Car Seat. Is it competition for the Anecia Safety Capsule? HotSpotMama New Product

Mon, 05 Jun 2006 20:15:18 -0700

(image) I just got wind of a new child car safety seat. In September 2005 (I know I'm a little late), SafeGuard announced the SafeGuard Child Seat. It is claimed that it is a revolutionary breakthrough in child seat safety. Since car crashes are still the leading cause of death for children in the United States, the SafeGuard was designed to address the top five misuses of child seats, as cited by NHTSA, and provide parents a child seat that is intuitive and easy-to-install. read more »

Door Opener / Closer: HotSpotMama recommendation

Sun, 04 Jun 2006 16:12:23 -0700

(image) Ahhh. I finally found it again - the Touch 'n Hold Door Opener and Closer.

Hard to believe that someone would get excited about such a boring product but I love things that make life easier.

About four years ago, we bought a new glass/screen door for our front door (exactly like the one in the picture). Anyway, it came with the best door opener/closer (that's what I'm calling that thing that keeps your screen door open). Instead of the traditional metal rectangular washer like device that you have to manually move to keep the door open, all you need to do was to press a little button with your foot and the Touch 'n Hold would keep it open. In order to close the door, all you need to do is open the door a little more and the door will close (no bending involved). read more »

Traveling Children's Stroller. Making Vacation Travel Easier for Parents. HotSpotMama Find

Sun, 11 Jun 2006 18:21:31 -0700

Dreaming about flying to an exotic new place? Thinking about vacations made me think about the difficulties of traveling on airplanes with children.

Ever try to lug the usual baby/toddler stroller along with your suitcases in your travels to say Florida? The Bahamas? Italy? How about across the planet to say Tokyo or Australia? Let's face it, strollers are a travel pain in the you know what.

Here's how I see it. Vacations - they really are a love hate relationship especially when you have kids. You love getting away from your everyday life. Getting to your destination is the true problem.

Father’s Day Gifts - Five Kid's Toys that Dad Would Love for Father’s Day

Mon, 12 Jun 2006 19:29:32 -0700

Is anyone else amazed by the toys that are out there? Sometimes I look at the toys and ask myself, is this really for kids?

When I had my first child, I saw the mini motorized cars for kids. I immediately wanted one. To tell the truth, sometimes my children end up with certain toys because I want it so badly (yes, my sons have a mini motorized fire truck). Is this wrong? I don’t think so. What’s the point of having kids if you can’t relive your childhood a little bit (just more responsibly).

Well, here are some toys that I know daddies all over the world would love to play with. More...

The Best Gift for Mother's Day
