Morning Study Group

In honor of Dean Hill's ten years of service and leadership at Marsh Chapel, this semester we'll be reading Village Green: Sermons from Asbury First United Methodist Church. We will read and discuss some of the Dean's sermons, consider the differences and similarities in ministry contexts between Rochester and Boston, and learn about how sermons get written. We might even have a special appearance from Dean Hill himself at the end of the semester! (Contact: The Rev. Jen Quigley, jenquig@bu.edu) Special Note: As always, books are free to anyone who wants to join. However, Dean Hill has ordered these books at his publisher’s rate (half off). If you're willing to make a donation of the book cost ($23), we will cover the cost of the book and give the other half as a donation to the Dean's Endowment Fund. Books are available in the Chapel Office.

Bible Study

Bible Study

Don't rush off after coffee hour—join us in the Thurman Room to study God's word. Bible Study is held each Sunday, with an emphasis on discernment, fellowship, and faith formation. This semester's topic is the Gospel of Mark. Bible Study is led this year by Bill Cordts, a 2011 STH graduate and Marsh Chapel alumnus. Bill is a candidate for ordination in the United Church of Christ and has led Bible Study for several years at his home church in Newton Highlands, where he serves as a lay minister. Join us in conversation with Georgetown Law Professor Peter Edelman, author of Not a Crime to Be Poor: The Criminalization of Poverty in America. During President Clinton's first term he was Counselor to HHS Secretary Donna Shalala and then Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. He was a Legislative Assistant to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and was Issues Director for Senator Edward Kennedy's Presidential campaign in 1980. Mr. Edelman is the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law and Public Policy at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches constitutional law and poverty law and is faculty director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality.

Feeling crafty? Want to learn how to knit or make paper cranes? Create Space is a time and place to let your creative juices flow. We supply origami paper, coloring books, yarn, knitting needles, and other craft supplies to give you an opportunity to connect your brain with your fingers and mindfully create.
