Redesign and Super Ad Sale for Mama Businesses!

Fri, 25 Feb 2011 00:28:15 +0000

Hi folks, it's me the TechMama Lynn, messing things up as usual.

You may note that the look of the site has changed a little. I've tried to declutter a little to improve the experience. Most of what you're used to seeing on the right has now either moved to the left (navigation and login, under the adstrip) or the bottom (who's on, who's new, and various links to other stuff). If you find bugs, let me know here.

ALSO, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT! I'm helping with the advertising here, trying to help keep the doors open. We're running two sales, one on the ads to the left, one on the ads that will start appearing at the bottom of each story just before the comments. The ad box says "sweet sponsors" and will be a strip of up to ten li'l square ads, 125x125 each.

Normally these ads will be $5 a day. But for their inaugural week, they'll be half-off for Hipmamas only--that's $2.50 to advertise your business to your fellow Mamas and to support the site! Use coupon code

mama-square

until March 4th, 2011 to get your ad! There's no time limit on how many days you can buy at this price, but you have to use it before the 4th!

Bee's also started a half-off sale on the side ads for etsy sellers only. Use code

etsy-only

We will be watching to make sure only etsy sellers use the side ads, guys. This is an experiment.

Thanks!

site issues

Mon, 22 Feb 2010 06:23:57 +0000

Hi guys--

I'm able to replicate some of the problems that y'all are seeing (only posts from tonight and 2004, inability to comment), but only when I'm logged out. Logged in, I see all your blog posts, but that's not unusal; I'm what's called the SuperUser--superpowers, I has dem. So don't worry; everything's still in the database. It's a permissions problem, I'm 99% sure. I'm told some software was installed today, and I'm trying to find out exactly what was done so I can troubleshoot.

Hang in there, and if you're experiencing troubles, please tell me here and I'll try to sort it out.

Love,
Lynn the techMama

Troubles

Fri, 04 May 2007 18:59:57 +0000

Sorry, kids, I'm working on the server troubles. I don't think it's the server itself; something we're running on the box is overwhelming MySQL, and I'm trying to figure out what. Please be patient. Thanks.

Here we go again

Thu, 05 Apr 2007 18:04:55 +0000

Hey folks, it's me the techMama again. We're having some funkiness in the back-end processes here that is making it hard for the entire box to run, so I'm going to be messing with stuff today. Bear with me.

Update 4/6/07: I think I done fixed it. Cross fingers.

Welcome to the New Hipmama!

Sat, 17 Feb 2007 06:09:46 +0000

Hi folks, techMama Lynn here. I think this time I got it right. I've been banging on it behind the scenes most of today. I still have a few things to clean up, but I thought I'd give you back most of the site. Please bang on it and tell me what's broken HERE. Please don't start a new thread. thanks so much for your patience!!

ps: I also think I discovered why the site keeps going down/slowing up, and I think I fixed it. double yay!

Meta: Possible Downtime Tonight

Fri, 16 Feb 2007 03:54:04 +0000

Hey kids--

Hipmama's provider is going to be doing some work behind the scenes tonight from 9 to 10 pm. Things should be down no more than a few minutes, but here's hoping everything goes according to plan. Just FYI.

Upgrade stuff part deux

Sun, 31 Jul 2005 18:46:17 +0000

THE BUDDY LIST
You guys are putting WAY too much emphasis on and thought into the buddy list. Granted I am a fringe member of your community--I exist here mostly to take care of the tech work--so I have but a fleeting understanding of history here, but sheesh! :)

Buddy list functionality is Drupal's way of allowing members of large, busy communities (like this one) to keep track of each other. With posts scrolling by so quickly, you might miss something from someone that means a lot to you. The buddy list makes it so that you don't miss one of those posts.

THAT'S ALL.

Any other meaning attached to the buddy list is something you guys are reading into it. It is a bookmarking tool. Nothing more. It says nothing about anything.

(Note to self: Don't even think about installing friend-of-a-friend software here...)

RECIPES
I note there are many enthusiastic recipe-givers. You now have a recipe section. Use it! :)

ummmm...I think that's it for now!

From the techMama: Upgrade coming this weekend, things will look weird for a bit

Fri, 29 Jul 2005 23:35:00 +0000

Hey folks--

Lynn here, your hipMama techMama. I'm about to start the upgrade process for hipMama. This means things will be wonky for a bit, "a bit" being possibly through Saturday, though I'm expecting less turbulence than that. I will let you know when is a good time to start submitting bug reports (hint: not yet :) ).

Why this needs to happen: The software running hipMama (Drupal) has gone through several updates since this site went live and we're woefully behind. Bee wants to add several new features and she can't until I update the underlying software. Things will work pretty much the way they do now, but things won't look exactly the same.

Anyway, bear with me, and cross your collective fingers since I'm doing this with Mercury retrograde. All good thoughts appreciated. :)

A note from the techMama

Fri, 22 Oct 2004 20:37:00 +0000

Hey mamas--

I'm the frumpy little elf behind the screen who keeps things running technically around here. :) I know we've had some slowness issues (every site on this server has had the same problem) and so I'm doing several things to help stabilize and speed things up. I'm hoping that these changes have already had an effect here; is it getting better or worse? I'm seeing things as better, but I want to know what you're seeing. Thanks.

fixed

Sun, 19 Oct 2003 18:00:00 +0000

The dns switch that made the beta site the actual "hipmama.com" caught me flat-footed and a buncha stuff broke. Sorry about that, guys. All is well now and if it isn't let me know.
