09/23/17: Paper Boxes and Storage Books Workshop with Amanda D'Amico - Parkway Central Library

The Masu Box is a simple origami structure made of paper. This square box can be used to wrap gifts or store objects, but it can also be adapted with simple bookbinding techniques to make sculptural book objects. In this workshop, we will begin with a box and a lid, and we will play with these paper elements to create books that can house images or small objects and be explored by hand.

The workshop is free but registration is required as seats are limited. Please register here. Materials will be supplied and tools will be available for use by participants, but if you have a bone folder of your own, please bring it along with you to the workshop.

Amanda D#39;Amico is a book artist working under the imprint Tiny Revolutionary Press. She is the Master Printer at the Borowsky Center for Publication Arts, and teaches at Tyler School of Art and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her artists#39; books have been collected and exhibited nationally. You can see her work at

09/23/17: Follow Me Through the Gates - Independence Library

Ty has lived in America her whole life, a whole 8 years! Her grandfather has not; he was born in China. Grandfather talks about China a lot, a whole lot. Ty doesn#39;t know much about China, and she thinks Grandfather doesn#39;t know much about her. Azsori has lived in America her whole life, a whole 9 years! She doesn't know much about living someplace else, but she knows a whole lot about feeling like she doesn#39;t always fit in where she lives.

But this Saturday, someone goes missing in the library and everything is about to change, a whole lot. Help Ty, Grandfather, Azsori, and their favorite librarian, Ms. Layla, on their quest for knowledge and acceptance through the walls of Independence branch of the Free Library - an adventure of exploring your roots and finding your family.

*Best enjoyed by children ages 5 to 10 and their adults*
