S&W model 14-3 loads

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 19:31:08 GMT

Been using 158g berrys semi wad plated bullets with 3.0 bullseye. I attached two targets one with remington factory loads and one with my loads. Using a Dillon 650 press. Could my crimp be too tight? I do measure and confirm the loads and they are very consistent.

Marlin "trail riders" limited edition

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 19:05:28 GMT

I just pick up one of these, who knows if they are rare or collectible. I had never seen or heard of this model. Help would be much appreciated.

Change to mag primer

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 19:04:29 GMT

I am thinking about develping a new load for my 308 using mag primers instead of standard LR. It's cci 250, vv N550, 185 juggernauts, lapis brass. Is there anything particular safety consideration that I should think about using mag primers? Does it effect starting load? /jonne

New AR build

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 18:50:33 GMT

Hey there TFL. Been a while since I posted but just now thought I’d try a new AR build. I already have an M&P I want to keep pretty well stock except for some Magpul furniture and maybe compensator, but want to try a ground up build…sounds like fun. I just thought I’d throw out what I am...

Question about bolt action top load magazines

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 16:32:17 GMT

Recently I bought a 450 Bushmaster that a guy converts from a Savage .308 action. This dang thing is nearly the best shooting rifle I have. The magazine only holds 2 cartridges but that's fine, the issue is loading them. It is very difficult to push the cases down past the "side lips" or...

Turk Mauser sporter

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 15:22:44 GMT

Hi guys, new to site, sorry if this doesn’t belong here. But, here goes my question, I have a 1938 Turk Mauser I am sporterizing to a 6.5x55 Swede. I already have a m94 takeoff barrel with a good boar I am using. My question is registering bolts, I was going to have a new one welded on and buy a...

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 14:39:08 GMT

Hey there, I can't find the flat base LCP magazine base. If you know of a place, please let me know :). But I see buds has the LCPII flat base plate. Does anyone know if this will fit on the LCP magazine? I don't know the exact differences between the two magazines. Thanks! ...

Lee Precision Reloading Stand - any feedback?

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 12:23:15 GMT

A month ago I was fortunate in inheriting a reloading system that consisted of a RCBS Rock Chucker, powder dispenser, beam scale, a set (3) of .38 spl dies, Speer bullets (.38 cal 148gr hollow base wadcutter), new .38 spl cases, small and large primer feeders, and other odds and ends. I'm...

CZ 455 Engraving bullets.

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 11:49:02 GMT

My CZ 455 is leaving rifling engraving on CCI SV 22 LR bullets. I've always thought this was good for accuracy to start the bullet into the barrel lands. Now I'm wondering if this takes any special cleaning after use. I usually let 22s take a bullet polish and don't clean. But...

SCCY Impressed

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 04:08:53 GMT

Wow, I bought a SCCY intending to throw it in the truck and basically just have something permanently in that vehicle. I put 100 rounds through it today and was very impressed. DA only, so not as fast as my Glock 26 and others in that class, but no misfires, stovepipe a, nothing and shockingly...

Haversack/possibles bag

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 03:50:21 GMT

Hornady gun cleaner question

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 03:12:03 GMT

This post is not intended to start another endless discussion on lubes. I have recently started experimenting with Hornady spray gun cleaner and have a question. The instructions say to spray it on, then let it dry, then wipe it down. I do so, and the gun just seems dry.....are you supposed to...

Hunting Deer with a 400 gr Speer 45-70 government load

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 02:45:50 GMT

I have decided I'm going to use my Marlin 1895 on at least 1 deer this year. Our standard rifle season begins tomorrow. Is an 1,870 fps, 400 grain Speer soft point fired from a 45-70 overkill on a 150-200 lb deer? You betcha! But I bought the gun, developed the load, and want to try it out....

Browning HP stoning jig?

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 23:46:46 GMT

I have a Browning H.P. that does not have a very good trigger. I removed the magazine safety but there it still has an irritating "hitch" (a felt "click" in the travel) in the trigger pull before it lets off. I had an inexpensive 1911 fixture (used a steel shim to set the depth of the stoning) at...

RCBS Taper-C Seat Die

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 22:34:47 GMT

Quick Question Just switched to reloading 45 ACP. Was waiting on my last die to arrive, an RCBS Taper Crimp Die, to complete the set. When i arrives I realized I made an error in ordering - Its the RCBS 18962 Taper/C Seater die combo. I always seat and crimp in two stages, and already...

Accuracy load workup. How do YOU do it?

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 17:30:17 GMT

I have been selecting my desired bullet, looking at what powder was the most accurate according to Nosler's book. Load a minimum charge load with 5 bullets starting at .035" off the lands and grooves progressing in .005" increments. I then test at 100 yards. Whichever length proves best I test...

Rifle Barrel Movement

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 17:23:35 GMT

We all know rifles are affected by recoil but I had no idea barrels would wobble when being fired. Here's the deal. I was watching the TV show, American Rifleman, with the topic of post war combat rifles. They show Corey Trapp and some NRA personnel firing the weapons. There are always...

STG44 impact

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 16:16:28 GMT

Just curious how others think the STG44 could have impacted the second world war had it come into service in 1939 rather than much later. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Noobie to the AR15

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 11:22:35 GMT

I got my first AR15 the other day. I picked up a Double Star Star 15 556 rifle. I don’t have much training with one and what little I do have I got years ago in the police academy. I was never issued one while I was on patrol. Any way, do you experienced AR folks have any tips or secrets that you...

GSG MP409

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 06:26:33 GMT

First off I apologise if this is in the wrong section as the firearm is in the grey area between a pistol and a rifle (legally considered a pistol). If needs moving, please do. Picked up my new gun, a GSG MP409 semi auto recreation of the original German MP40. I have yet to shoot it but I'm...

Tumbler Media

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 05:48:37 GMT

So I finally obtain the Frankford Arsenal Quick-n-EZ Case Tumbler, not ideal but have to start somewhere. Looking into getting the media. How many times can the same media be used before one has to replace it with new media? I am planning on cleaning 30-06 (my own brass), .380 (my own and picked...

M1917 Eddystone w/SA stock?

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 05:10:28 GMT

Been posting a lot here lateley... I picked up an Eddystone M1917 for a decent price over the weekend and while the barrel has a date of 7-18 with the proper 5 groove left twist and the part numbers all match I can't find a mark anywhere on the stock. Serial number on receiver is in the 800,000...

Who can fabricate an scope adjustment cap?

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 04:26:32 GMT

I have an old German scope that is in perfect condition except it is missing the cap that goes over the windage adjustment. I have the other one from the elevation adjustment. Does anyone know where I might get a new one manufactured? I can use the one I have as a pattern for the new one. I...

Splitting stock...

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 03:38:28 GMT

Hello all, Newbie here. I took my Win 94 Trapper (in .44 mag) hunting last weekend, and when I got home to clean the gun before putting it back in the safe, I noticed there's a small split in the stock. It wasn't there before (as far as I know). The weather was cold, a bit wet, and I did...

Ready for opening day of gun season here in NY

Fri, 17 Nov 2017 00:04:22 GMT

Saturday is opening day of deer season for rifles. I'm ready. Supposed to be rainy and windy all day. What's new? I hunt on my own property. Instead of going down into the ravine where it is 10 - 15 degrees colder and sitting in every kind of precipitation there is with no wind break...

22-250 for prairie dog hunt. 40 or 50g?

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 22:38:06 GMT

I'm working up a load for my new (new to me) Rem 700 in 22-250 with a 1 in 14" twist. I'm going to use it next spring on a prairie dog hunt in South Dakota. My first thought was Varmint Nightmare Xtreme bullets from Midsouth, but the 36g and 55g shoot around 1 inch groups at 100 yards from my...

Bill unveiled to strengthen background checks

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 22:30:04 GMT

I heard about this in my car as I was arriving home from work an hour or so ago. It seems that a bipartisan deal has been reached to strengthen the background check system, in response to the recent Texas church shooting. ...

1911 Stripped Grip Screw

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 21:11:19 GMT

Trying to change out grips on my Ed Brown 1911. The screw head rounded off when I tried to remove with Allen wrench. Any thoughts on removal? The other 3 came out fine and of course the last one gets jacked up. Thanks in advance.

Lyman Great Plains Pistol barrel change

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 20:46:44 GMT

A while back on this forum somebody had said to me if I wanted a single barrel smothbore pistol with a large bore, reaming out a .54 Lyman GPP barrel would do the trick. I thought about that and it is something I would be willing to do and have kept my eyes out for a used .54 GPP, but the issue...

Mounts and Rings

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 20:01:55 GMT

Can anyone recommend scope rings and mounts for a Savage model 11 with a Nikon Prostaff scope 4-12. Thanks

Experimenting with BSZ at 25 yds

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 19:07:38 GMT

After reading conflicting posts and seeing conflicting graphs on the internet (25 yds = 200 yds; 25 m = 200 m; 25 yds = 200 m; 25 m = 200 yds; BSZ position = 200 m; BSZ position = 300 m) I decided to (try to) zero in the BSZ position at 25 yds and then see what happens as I shoot at different...

I love Elephants but we need to kill them, eat their flesh, and wear their skins.

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 18:35:01 GMT

https://workingclassreader.com/2017/11/16/i-love-elephants-but-we-need-to-slay-them-eat-their-flesh-and-wear-their-skins/ I had time during my lunch break today. I'm fairly new to hunting. (5 deer in 10 years) So let me know if I'm terribly off. But if anyone wants to go to Africa, play...

The Only Way To Stop A Bad Man...

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 16:44:07 GMT

With A Gun Is A Good Man With A.....CAR? LOL. Sometimes, you just gotta fight back with what you have at your disposal. http://www.wral.com/the-latest-mom-of-shooting-suspect-son-wife-broke-up/17116294/ Upon seeing the suspect firing shots into a store and putting his rifle down for some...

Lowers

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 16:01:01 GMT

I'm fairly new to the AR platform of rifle. I bought a Ruger AR556 a year and a half ago but just this past month I converted it over to a 300blk. I've started researching the platform and the different calibers and I'm very interested in the 458 socom. I know to change it over to the 458 socom I...

I'm thinking about leaving the revolver world...

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 13:09:17 GMT

I took an honest assessment of every gun I own & had to admit - - I just don't shoot a revolver any more. In fact, I sold off two very pristine model 19's back in 2009 for a price that will make a lot of people cry ($~ $290 for each) Oh well - they went to good homes. Anyhow, I was on the line...

What do you use for your reloading bench?

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 12:30:24 GMT

My current setup is less than ideal and I'm in the market for a new bench. I don't have a lot of space as my targeted location is also my exercise and music room. I'm looking at used desks on Craiglist. What do you use?

Stubborn copper fouling in new Glock 17

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 08:40:17 GMT

Hi folks, So I'm about 1000 rounds in on my Glock 17. At about 700 rounds I started to notice that while the barrel looked clean and shiny at a quick glance, turning it around in front of a good light showed some streaks/fouling along the lands in the barrel. I've cleaned my gun after every...

A video of my experience at a high tech digital shooting range

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 04:00:26 GMT

Hopefully a little promotion of my video content is OK as I try to get back into sharing regularly. I recently moved to Broward County, Florida for work. It is a beautiful location but there are relatively few outdoor shooting ranges out here (definitely without a costly membership) and I have...

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 01:23:56 GMT

S&W mode 14-3

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 00:24:39 GMT

I hope this is the correct place to ask my question. Been using my 14-3 for 45 years. I did stop for some 25 of those years. I am back shooting, after cleaning and checking this pistol. Seems when I shoot at 50 feet I am getting a round once in a while out of the black. So I tried...

Didja ever dump a half pound of Unique on a ceramic floor?

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 00:03:20 GMT

It's like the flakes are glued down. Vacuum. Vacuum some more. Broom. Vacuum again. Mop. Plus I busted my powder reservoir on my Square Deal. I was changing calibers and just saw that sucker go airborne. I just watched it. The last thing I thought was, "Nah, this isn't happening." ...

Dandy 8 pointer.

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 23:19:42 GMT

Sunday evening just before dark, I had a deer come up behind me as I was setting on the ground on a grassy firebreak road, my adrenalin was pumping hard. To my back where the deer was, is mostly thick bramble, briars, sumac, small trees and tall wild grass so I couldnt see the deer. I kept my...

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 23:15:00 GMT

Okay, so I just unwrapped my Lee Classic Cast Breech Single Stage reloader. I have NEVER reloaded before, but wanted to. My brass is .243 winchester power point, 95 grain, factory ammo that was fired one time in my Howa Bull Barrel laminate, thumb hole Varmiter deluxe. The average case...

Handgun accuracy?? How determined?

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 22:54:20 GMT

I’ve seen people make comments such as ‘my gun shoots 2 inches low and to the right at 7 yards” for example.. Is this offhand? They never say. From a rest, most of my handguns are very accurate. Shooting offhand is another story,,,,

Max loads in .44 mag S&W?

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 21:52:03 GMT

Hi, I'm thinking about reloading 240gr bullet with 21 grains of VVN110 behind it. Is this considered a max or at least close to max load? I heard smiths are too weak for max loads. How would a model 69 handle this load? I know its a light revolver but im not asking about recoil just the strength...
