You may have encountered one of the issues that used to plague Voice recognition software on laptops- the small physical size of laptops means it is hard to filter out inherent system noise, which can be misinterpreted by VR software or lower its accuracy. If it is an older laptop that is more likely the case, but should not be such an issue with newer hardware. Might explain why your PC handled it better. Or not.

Turns out that it must've been something up with the laptop or some interference in my bedroom - I did this quick test on my desktop pc using odeo with same mic and it was fine.

Seems there was a lot of snap, crackle, pop in the first part of this. That must be something to do with odeo or my connection (it was over a wireless link in my home). The later part was recorded with exactly same laptop and mic but direct to Audacity. I'll do some tests using the same mic on my pc on odeo and see what's up. Can't use odeo if it's gonna pop like that. Will report back later. Dave

Interesting conversation guys, its a wonder what you can do if you stay away from microsoft isnt it Mike. Its a pity about the odeo short time limit. Look forward to finding out if you have any luck in your conversations with odeo.
