Gaby I was just joking:) But I am amazed at your incredulity! Abe said many nice things. Just to yank you back to reality--the same slave owners would think nothing of attending church holding their bibles and their prim ladies in their hoops:) nice eh. That included Abe, and his friends.

The address itself was delivered at Gettysburg National Cemetery, Cemetery Hill, Gettysburg, Adam's County Pennsylvania 17325 Youre missing the point DB- the trees for the woods as always! The rael meat is in the 269 words that Abe spelt out for all of posterity. BTW Ive never been to the US and if I ever do I'd love to go on a trail of Abe's life from Nolin Creek to wasahingtob DC. I dont have a clue of whether it's a viable/doable thing at all!!

OK clever Quizman and Gaby, What is the exact 'address' of Gettysburg Address? Now don't just say, Gettysburg, PA....

The address itself was on 19 Novembe 1863 so for the sake of hair-spiltting it was 143 years and 7 months old- but the ideas as relevant and the sentiment holds perfectly even for today in Bush's America, Al- Quaeda swayed nightmares and Modi's Gujarat.

Yes I wondered about too. It would not be out of place to also mention that this is a modern recording (the gramaphone recorder was not invented unitl 1877 & put into wide use much later). There are several versions of this address and historians disagree over which one is accurate. While this would in no way reduce the effectiveness of the address as one of the best pieces of oratory, it would just give us a better picture.

More than two centuries = more than 200 years. The Civil war took place between 1861-1865. It was 144 years ago. Perhaps, you could've said 7 score and four years ago. :-)
