Pahlawan Cafe - Sibu 2010-01-27T19:49:04.343+08:00 I went to Pahlawan Cafe for breakfast with my parent last Sunday. This cafe is opened not long ago. We are running out of ideas where to eat as wanted to try something new. Headed over to this cafe and see what they offer. As usual, nothing much different from the rest of the kopitiam over here in Sibu. I was wondering why they opened a coffee shop but do not even bother to try sell something new and nice rather than those typical food like Chicken Rice, Fried Noodles...etc. Parking over here is easy and the place is windy. Location wise is not bad. I walked around to see what the stalls are selling and I chose the beef noodle stall. The stall that I chose selling Beef Noodle, Dumpling (jiaozi 饺子), Black Sesame Tang yuan - a dish of glutinous rice balls...etc. The owner of the stall is a China Lady came from the mainland. Can know it when she speaks. I guess nowadays more and more workers from China coming over to Malaysia to work. They came here and worked in various industries...guess life is just not so easy in China. They trying to make so bucks and bring it back to China for a better life. The rich and poor gap in China is getting wider day by day. Me and my mum ordered the Beef Noodle. My dad ordered the Kampua Mee from other stall which is not nice according to him. I wonder why he ordered the kampua mee rather than other things as he seldom take kampua mee when go to coffee shop. The RM4.00 per bowl Beef Noodle. Zoom in for the yummy and tender beef. The beef is nicely cooked and the meat is juicy with tendon on it. Really chewy. The taste of the soup is light but delicious. Some of the soup for beef noodles over here in Sibu taste nothing like a soup cooked with beef. This one is not bad as you can feel the meaty taste of the soup. I think this lady did really come to Sibu with some "kung fu" or secret recipes in cooking. I will try the Black Sesame TangYuan and Dumpling next time. This time cannot try as too much food in the morning is not good as I am trying to cut down my weight. I already loss 1 Kg but still have many kilos to lose. [...]
Intruder! 2010-01-23T07:59:03.657+08:00 Two days ago while I am about to enter the bathroom after switching on the fluorescent lamp, I heard a noisy coming from my toilet. At first, I was thinking maybe a bird or something outside the windows made that noise. When the light came bright, I quickly check inside the toilet. There is an intruder inside my toilet...a lizard or gecko. Not sure what to call it as there are too many types of lizard or gecko. I can tell you if you look at the size, colour and skin of this thing, you will sure don't want it to crawl in your bedroom. A few days ago, my mum already scared by this gecko inside her bedroom as it was hiding behind the curtain. My mum was freak out and wanted to chase it away but in vain. It went on hide inside the bedroom. For the past few nights, my mum couldn't get a nice sleep as always thinking of this thing crawling in the bedroom. My dad also cannot sleep well as he is busy looking for this intruder in the bedroom hoping to find it so that my mum can sleep well. He is trying to catch it after turned off the light as this type of animal always come out at night but again all the efforts in vain. Now this little gecko came out from hiding by itself and bumped into me. You know what is gonna happen to it, right? I quickly ran downstairs to get my net and try to catch this guy. My daddy also comes up to give a helping hand. To tell the truth, I really don't like this cool blooded little crawling thingy. My dad had a suggestion to paralyze this little thingy with our secret weapon "Ridsect"! I think even Ridsect company don't know that their product that used to kill mosquito is good in paralyzing a lizard or gecko. Found a funny ad of Ridsect in Youtube. My dad sprayed the insecticide to the gecko and it trying to get away. My dad kept spraying and this little intruder is losing consciousness. I try to catch it with my net but I was wrong. It still had a sudden burst of power to try to crawl up to my hand and this really scared me. I quickly throw the net with this thing on it away. It was really close that this cold blooded crawling creature crawling up my hand. Very 'geli'. Then we kept spray it again with Ridsect and this time, it really paralyzed this gecko. My dad catches it with the net and I backed off after the incident. Haha. My dad trying to kill it and I stopped him for doing that. It is not good to kill it as I think. So, I took over it with a container and release it outside the house. Let it be free. Before letting it go, for sure I will not forget to snap a picture of it and share with you all. Imagine for this gecko to crawl in your bedroom when you are sleeping? Scary? Look at the pattern of the skin...I guess lizard lover will like it very much. But definitely not for me. Thank you. Do you scare of lizard? [...]
Blue Splendour Restaurant Sibu 2010-01-20T07:08:00.661+08:00 I went to Blue Splendour Restaurant in Wisma Sanyan for dinner not long ago with my family and relatives. My Uncle came back to Sibu to visit my grandmother with my cousin. My cousins are both on holidays for this month. We wanted to go for some good food and have a nice reunion dinner as my Uncle seldom come back to Sibu. So we went to Blue Splendour Restaurant because of the long track records and good name in Sibu for a very long time. I guess the good name need to be renamed now. We reached the restaurant around 7.30 p.m and the place is very empty. This is not usual for this restaurant as it is always packed. There are only two tables outside and a few tables in the private partition. We got two tables and my uncle proceeds to order the food. My uncle wanted to eat those local delicacy and fresh water fish as not easy to get else way. After 10 minutes the waitress took the order, she came back and said that no more Midin (jungle fern) for us. It is reserved by other people already. I guess what she means other people are those in the private partition...but that's ok for us. We asked for mixed vegetables for replacement. After 5 minutes, another waitress came over and told us that Cangkuk Manis also not enough for us already. Hey, you took the orders and now you came back and said this not enough that one finish, is it the way to do business? Then we gave up and tell her just forget about it. If we know earlier, we better go to Ruby Restaurant for their nice nice Cangkuk Manis. We seated there waiting for the foods to come after the two 'incidents'. While waiting, I saw one of the bosses of the restaurant is running in and out from the private partition and sometimes carrying some liqueurs. I guess it must be VIPs inside there. The waitresses also busy serving the people in the private partition. We waited for almost an hour until the first plate of dish is served. I have been checking with the waitress for a few times why our foods are not serving yet after so long and the answer I got is that it is coming. Got one time those waitresses don't even bother to look at me and also the fatty boss is just ignored us and only busy serving the people inside the partition. I was really angry at that time but because of the amount of people we had, it will be troublesome to move to other place for dinner. My grandmother cannot walk very well also nowadays. This is the 'hotplate' that took the restaurant almost an hour to cook. I guess I can cook it myself within 15 minutes. I don't understand what took them so long or maybe they just ignored us and serve their VIPs first which came later then us. I only like the little white stick, actually it is one type of fish (white rice fish if I am not wrong) that they deep fried it with flour. The taste is not so bad. The rest...forget about it. Mixed vegetables? Looks like a plate of junk. It is totally tasteless and look like a dish that prepared by a person don't even know how to cook at all. I guess they just dump in whatever they can find in the kitchen and just simply prepared for us. Yiaks...This dish is left almost untouched. The 'Tapah' fish which is equally tasteless and meatless. They serve us the fish head which cut into two and serve for our two tables. Where got meat for this fish head? Somemore cut into two...speechless. This is the Deep Fried Oat Prawns which is the only dish that look and taste like a dish served by a famous restaurant. It is not very good but considers the best among the dishes that night. I think this is the worst dinner I had before in a restaurant. Guess how much the above dishes cost us with a plate of roast chicken and duck which I didn't even bother to take pictures? RM650++!!! Can you imagine that? It is like using a sharp knife to cut our throat and blood is dripping down. Bloodsucker! Side note...rumors are saying that this restaurant is going to close shop after Chinese New Year due to some arguments between the bosses. But hey, even if want to close shop also have to lea[...]
The Invention of Lying 2010-01-16T18:03:13.078+08:00 It is nice to be weekend and it is the movie day for me. I just finished watching an interesting and funny movie titled: The Invention Of Lying. It is a slow but romantic comedy and of course talks about LOVE.Can you imagine the world without lies? This movie is really nicely plotted and they used a very different way to tell the importance of true love and love without lies. This movie set place in a world with people all only telling the truth all the time and they don't even know what is lying and lie is not actually existed in their world. It is hilarious to see how people actually talk without any intention to lie and tell it true from the heart. I was laughing out loud myself. It is totally different from what our world is actually today. I guess today our world is full of lies and people actually not all the time telling the truth and maybe most of the time for some people. Let's take for example when your boss had a lousy idea which he think is brilliant and he is happily telling everyone and you tell him right in the face that the idea is stupid? You sure will say not bad not bad...etc, right? In the movie, the main character Mark is a loser and one day, he is stroked with an idea to tell a lie and his world changed ever since after the first lie he told. In this movie world, people will believe what ever you told people as in that world, there is no lies at all. People will take your words as real. Like I am telling people, "Hey, I am Superman and can fly." Then they will say, "Why you never tell me before since I know you for such a long time." They really do believe that you can fly when you told them you can fly type of things. It is really funny to hear they conversation as I never think of things like that and actually sometimes we tell lies without we realize it ourselves. The screen writer is brilliant. In the movie, Mark attracted to a pretty girl which starring Jennifer Garner as Anna. Oh, I missed her show. Mark is a loser and can never attract a girl like Anna. But what makes him win Anna is the truth that he told her before. I think that is what the movie is trying to tell, we need to be true to our love. But if our world is like in the movie where everybody is telling what true from the heart, I think the world will be in a big mess where everybody will be fighting all the time and not happy all the time as most of the time the truth is harsh. Sometimes a little lie which do no harm is actually can bring happiness, confidence, help people like those with depression...etc. "Your cooking is not bad as a beginner, your result is not so bad, your dress looks great, you are not fat at all, your blog post is great and interesting...etc. Sound familiar? Haha. Our world still needs lies which are the beautiful lies, right?
Free Gifts 2010-01-12T07:37:00.132+08:00 I went over to Premier Shopping Complex after work to buy magazine. This is the best time to go there as it is the only time that you can easily find a parking space. I got a parking right in front of the main entrance. There is a small bookstore selling all sorts of newspaper, magazines, comics...etc inside the complex. I forget how many years since I started to buy magazines and comics from this bookstore. This little bookstore got many varieties of magazines, comics and newspaper than any other bookstores in town.I bought a comic and a magazine this time. For a New Year, the magazine got a bumper issue with free gifts wrapped inside. I quickly grabbed it when I saw it. I think this is the gimme for the publisher to attract customer to give free gifts. This is the magazine that I bought today "PETS". I think you all sure know what this magazine is about when looking at the cover page. Yes, my favourite...all about fish! The free gift is the small package with the wording 3+1 inside the wrap. It is a sample of floating type pellets. My fish will get new food this week. Yeah! How I wish I will have an Arowana like the one on the cover page...only can dream for it for the mean time. Nice, right? The magazine is actually divided into two sections. You flip over the magazine and the other cover page is about dogs. The magazine use half of the book talking on fish and the other half talking on dogs, cats...etc. Not bad eh? This side they give a sample of dog snack from Korea. This is perfect as I can pass this to my wife to give to her "Bao Bei" named Diamond. We just gave the snack for Diamond to try and he loved it very much and asking for more. Hehe. He kept begging for more so loud there. Naughty little doggy. The magazine is just nice for me, right? It took care of me and my wife's pet.
Happy Time 2010-01-08T06:11:00.267+08:00 Happy time is always good to remember. Now already back to normal routine after the New Year holiday. On New Year day, we went for dinner with my in-laws and my brother in law. My wife went for shopping with her parent and brother on the first day of New Year as her parent is taking a day off on this day. My wife bought a watch for her brother as a gift as he is good boy for the last year to the family and in his studies. The watch is a bit expensive but I told her that it is worth the price as long as her brother is happy with it. The watch is really nice and looks good on her brother. My wife is really a good good sister. :) Nice Casio Sporty Style Watch. That night we went for dinner together at Cafe Cafe. It has been a long long time I didn't go to Cafe Cafe already. The food quality is still maintaining and we had a great dinner that night. I missed some of the photos as we are all hungry and can't wait to start eating. I ordered 4 dishes that night for 5 of us. The portion of the foods in Cafe Cafe is really big. The price tag is not small as well but as long as the food is nice, I am ok with it. This is our favorite dish "Chin Chah Lok Fried Rice". The fried rice is wrapped with golden yellow fry egg. There are chicken slices, fresh tomato slices..etc inside the fried rice. The fried rice is really yummy to go with the Chin Chah Lok dip sauce. The dip sauce is a bit pink in colour as the sauce is made from tiny winy shrimps and other ingredients which I don't really know. They did squeeze some lime juice into the dip sauce. Hehe. I only know how to eat. This is the Thai Style Salad Fish Fillet which is really nice. This is one of the dishes we will order if we ever go to Cafe Cafe for dinner. The fish fillets are deep fried and topped with a special sauce which makes it really mouth watery. I ate a lot of this that night as we ordered too much food. I always scared not enough foods for 5 of us when we ordered 3 dishes and I added another one last minute. This proved that I am wrong as my wife told us not to order too much first and I never listen. My bad and I should have listened to my wife in the first place. We all bloated that night but we did really had a good time having dinner together with the family while chit chatting and joking for the whole night. The bill come up to RM83.00 inclusive of drinks. I think it is worth the price as the food is tasty, ambience is nice and the portion of food is really big. The most important thing is that we did spend a good time together which money cannot buy. Tung Lok Corner - Sibu 2010-01-04T18:44:30.465+08:00 Holiday = Eating+Sleeping+Shopping? I guess that is what most of us do on holidays. Last week three day of consecutive holidays is really great. Really relaxed myself and had fun. Not sure when will have this type of chance already as there will be a long non holiday period for me. Need to work and work. I went to Tung Lok Corner which is located on the left side of the Everwin Supermarket at the Sibu Long Distance Bus Terminal last Sunday with my parent for breakfast. The place is famous for its Fish Noodle and Laksa Sarawak. This stall last time is in Mas Corner and moved to this new coffee shop last year. Now Mas Corner is losing their customer and not much people go there already. The big signboard of Tung Lok Corner This is the Fried Yellow Noodle Foo Chow style ordered by my mum. My mum said the taste is ok but a bit salty. There didn't put much meat or vegetables inside the noodle. Too plain for my liking. Actually I wanted to order the same but changed my mind last minute and proved that I made a good decision. :P This is the Laksa Sarawak with a few prawns on top of the vermicelli. The soup is spicy and the laksa taste is not bad. I think it is better than the famous "Aloha" laksa in Sibu. This bowl of laksa cost RM5.00 as I asked for extra prawns. This is the famous Fish Noodle. This bowl of noodle cost RM8.00 up from RM6.00 not long ago. The fish is really fresh and nice. They use "tapah fish" (a type of local catfish) to cook with the noodle. My dad said the noodle is nice and the portion is too big for him. The fish is tenderly white and yummy. My mum helped him to finish the rest. I am on diet, so can't help much. You like fish noodle? [...]
Manna Cafe Sibu - Korean Food 2010-01-02T23:02:39.288+08:00 Me and my wife went to Manna Cafe on level 5 of Wisma Sanyan for our New Year Eve dinner. We were thinking that we already had Japanese food for Christmas Eve, now we can try Korean food for New Year Eve. At first, we were having Pizza hut in mind, one of my wife's favourite but then we decided to try the Korean food instead of Pizza. Other reasons that drove us to the place is the convenient parking, not so crowded, can do shopping after dinner and most important is the view from the place looking down to the town square. The New Year countdown party is held at the Town Square. We reached the place around 7.30 p.m and scare that the place might be pack but luckily it was not. We settle down on a table beside the windows. Luckily this time this cafe had À la carte on New Year Eve. We were scared that they only provide set dinner and we cannot choose as what happened last time. Interior of Magna Cafe. Once upon a time, most of the cafes and hotels in Sibu only provide set dinner on eve night like Christmas and New Year. I was like what is going on as festive session is supposed to be a day for all and not two only. They make it into the day only for couples. They don't provide À la carte and you can only choose from the sets dinner for two only. The price tags of the sets are like in the range of RM70-100 per person. Can you imagine that? The foods they served are only normal western foods and nothing so special. This is really too much and me and my wife ended up eating something light last time. Many families can only go for KFC, McDonald's as limited choices. This year is better as many cafes don't do that anymore. They still provide sets but you can choose this time. So, I ordered a steel plate lamb and my wife ordered mixed rice in a stone bowl. This is a popular Korean dish "Bibimbap". Bibimbap is served with a bowl of warm white rice topped with many ingredients like cucumber, carrot, bean sprouts, beef or chicken minced meat...etc. You like Korean foods? The food came very fast and we are happy with the serving time. This is the mixed rice in a stone bowl that my wife ordered. Look at the raw egg topped on the white rice... yummy yummy. You need to mix all the ingredients in the hot bowl yourself and the ingredients will continue to cook in the bowl as the bowl is really hot. My wife said the taste is really nice and spicy. No other place in town that serves this type of Korean signature dish and this is a good one. She finished the whole bowl as she said New Year Eve no need to be on diet and I said good. Need to eat more as she is really slim now. This is the lamb that I ordered. The lamb is served really hot and the sauce is really nice. They really put a lot of black peppers inside the sauce which make the taste really strong and spicy. The meat of the lamb is tender and juicy. No need to chew so much and I finished the whole plate in no time. The total bill only came up to less than RM40.00 for the two dishes and two drinks. Not expensive yet nice. Worth to go again next time. We had a great time and dinner with great view up high on New Year Eve...Yeah! What do you have for your New Year Eve night? [...]
2010! 2010-01-01T03:49:37.526+08:00 Happy New Year 2010! Did you all enjoy the New Year eve? I hope everyone did. I just came back from the celebration and did had a good time with my wifey and friends. Now is a brand new year to start off. I had a few things I wanted to achieve in year 2010: 1. I need to lose 10 kg within this year. Gaining weight lately and really need to lose a bit of weight for a healthier life. Need to eat less and do more exercise. No excuse this year as this already prolonged for many years and I still not lose any weight but gaining weight instead. 2. I will work hard to go a step further in my new career. Will not keep on delay in works and find excuses for myself for not working really hard. Need to put in 110% effort as I was procrastinating for most of the time. Need to be more proactive and not just wait for things to fall down from the sky. 3. Need to earn more money to get a better life for my wife and family. For a start, a penny earned is not mine if I don't save. Earning money is easy but saving money is hard. Need to force myself to save and yes, I use the word force as it is human nature to spend more when you earn more. Need to have a plan to start saving. If not, I will end up spending more than I what I earned. 4. Need to be a better man for my wife. Be more sensitive to her feelings and things around her. Sometimes I am very careless and didn't notice that I hurt her feelings. Need to be more caring and protect her all the time. 5. Need to change my bad habits. There is too much to list all down here. Haha. But I am sure my wife will reminds me on those habits every now and then. :P That's the basic thing that I will need to do in year 2010. Hope I can achieve all in year 2010. I will work hard! What do you want to achieve in year 2010? Wish you all have a prosperity year on 2010. Happy New Year!
Had A Merry Christmas? 2009-12-27T20:33:37.192+08:00 Christmas is over and New Year is coming. Could you not love December of each year? I came back from outstation trip a bit earlier than actual plan and got the chance to celebrate the Christmas Eve with my wife happily. When she found out that I am actually coming back earlier than planned, she is so excited and so do I when I told her the news. On Christmas Eve, we dressed up nicely and went to Sushi Tie for dinner. Sushi Tie is the one and only one nice Japanese restaurant in town. There are two outlets in Sibu and we went to the one located in Wisma Sanyan (tallest building in Sarawak) for a nice sushi dinner. The above is only part of the plates that we ordered for the night. Can't actually memorize all the Japanese name for the dishes. The Soft Shell Crab California Roll is our all time favourite. The deep fried soft shell crab with mayonnaise in the vinegar rice wrapped with seaweed, simply delicious! The cheese baked mussels are another nice plate of dish. My wife said felt like we are in the sea when she ate the mussels as the mussels still got the sea like smell. Yummy! After the dinner, we just do window shopping in the shopping mall. The shopping mall is so crowded after our dinner. At around 9.30 pm, we met up with a friend and we took a drive around the city enjoying all the views and lighting in the town. Then we headed to X-Zone which is located beside Paramount Hotel for countdown party. We had a few beers and dancing all night long. We did enjoy ourselves and ended the night after the countdown of Christmas with a filling supper. How you celebrate your Christmas Eve night? On Christmas day, I just spent the day with my family all day long. We went for some shopping in town and had a leisure day. There are some photos I took at the Sibu Town Square while walking there with my family members. There is a Christmas trees decoration competition held in the town square. Those Christmas trees were decorated nicely and compete by the big corporates in Sibu . This is the tallest and biggest Christmas Tree in the center of the stage. Nice? This is the Christmas Tree with laser emitting beam. This tree attracted many people to go in front of it to enjoy the laser beam show. Yeah, the building behind the Christmas tree is Wisma Sanyan where I had my Christmas Eve's dinner with my wife. This Wisma Sanyan is the tallest building in Sarawak as of now. The Christmas tree decorated with turning cursors around the tree. What do you think about this tree? Some said nice and creative but some said ugly. :) Did you enjoy your Christmas holiday? I enjoyed it a lot with my family. Really felt great to celebrate this festival session with my family. Christmas is meant for family to gather around and enjoy, right? [...]
Winter Solstice 2009-12-22T00:59:24.958+08:00 I will need to go for a work trip tomorrow morning and will only return on the eve of Christmas at night. Tomorrow will be the important festival to Chinese as it is the Winter Solstice (冬至) which pronounced as Dong Zhi. This is the day that Chinese celebrate as after this day, Summer is around the corner and that's mean Chinese New Year is about to come! But I still need to work and cannot stay home for dinner. What to do? Still need to work and put food on the table for the family. So no choice but work in this festival session. So my mum cooked a nice dinner for all of us a day earlier to celebrate the Winter Solstice. I am bloated after the dinner. Actually planned a Christmas Eve dinner with my wife and we wanted to go for Sushi. But by the time I reach Sibu on Christmas Eve, not much time for dinner already. So, maybe will take some light food and straight to have fun and a few drinks on Christmas Eve with my wife and friends. For those who can stay home for Winter Solstice, enjoy your dinner with your family! Eat more and have fun gather together. Not much time to get online recently and didn't have the chance to visit other bloggers' page. Sorry my friends... Will visit all the blogs on my bloglist this coming holiday. Wish Everyone "Merry Christmas!" here first. Enjoy your Christmas Day!
I Lost Most Of My Contacts... 2009-12-19T17:55:38.069+08:00 It is been a not very good week for me last week. There is some problem on my daddy's health check. But he is ok now and back to Sibu already. Need to have another follow up check in 6 months time.I am rather lack in going online recently. By the time I finish all my routines, it is already time to sleep and I don't get enough sleep for the past weeks. Felt sleepy most of the time and I don't know why. Another thing happened three days ago...my handphone went blank!!! I cannot see a thing on the screen and hence I cannot do anything but send my phone to warranty. As usual, warranty means WAIT! I don't know how long I need to wait but only can keep on waiting. When will I have you back? Baby please come back home...why I suddenly think of this song? I don't know why went the screen went blank, all my contacts in the SIM card are gone as well. Maybe when I try to on and off my phone to confirm that it is the screen problem, somehow I shorted the SIM card or the phone. When I took my SIM card and put it onto my old handphone, 0 contact is in the record! I am not sure whether if they repair my phone, will my contacts in the phone memory will be erased or not. Please don't... Before that incident happens, I was busy copying my contacts into my new corporate number that the new company just given to me. I only managed to copy most of the business contacts as that corporate number is meant for business. I didn't manage to copy most of my friends' contact including a few blogger friends' contact. Argh...really agitated me and want to crash my phone into pieces. Use the big hand like the photo below to crash it!! There will be another story on the big hand... I think this hand is big enough to crash my little phone. No? I thought I had a back up of my contacts in my computer but hey, the records are gone as well and I couldn't find it in all my drives. I remember fully well that I did make a copy into my thumb drive. What is going on here? Trying to wipe up all my contacts? Or I cannot carry two handphone and that is why all my contacts almost gone when I get a second number and phone. Did you have the same experience that all your contacts in the handphone is gone like me before? I guess I really need to slowly collect my numbers back. That will be hard...
Home Cooked Food 2009-12-12T15:51:07.566+08:00 I was busy settle in with my new work lately and don't have much time to get online to blog and read blogs. Still trying to fit in to the new environment and colleagues. Tired and not enough sleep. I will try to catch up and hope will get use to the new routine soon. I was having dinner at my father in law's house for these few days. My parent is in Kuching as my dad needs to do some health checks in Normah Hospital Kuching. My mother in law cooked a lot for us to eat as my little brother in law also came back from Kuching for the long holidays for Uni. My mother in law really can cook. Stir Fried Kai Lan with pork slices. Look nice? I ate a lot of Kai Lan that night as it is cooked well and the Kai Lan is very crunchy. I wonder why Kai Lan must be cooked in whole plant and not chopped into smaller pieces. The nice and yummy Soy Sauce Chicken Wings. This is my brother in law's favourite. Sometimes I wonder why chicken wing is so nice no matter how it was cooked. You can barbecue, deep fried, grill, stir fried...etc and it is all nice. No wonder chicken wings are selling so expensive nowadays. Three or four BBQ chicken wings can easily cost RM10 nowadays. This is my wife's favourite Asam Egg. She said the nice and spicy gravy is not easy to prepare. My mother in law was sobbing when preparing this asam gravy as the chili gets into her eyes. She insists on using traditional way to prepare it rather than put everything inside the blended. She said the taste will be different. The asam is so nice to eat with the egg and white rice. I think I can finish my bowl of white rice with only this asam egg. Sour vegetable soup with bean curd plus some bones with little meat on it. Chinese always like to boil soup with pig bones. This really makes the soup nicer. It is simple but still very nice. Dessert time! Ya, so nice to even have dessert prepared after the meal. Boh Boh Cha Cha! Malaysian's favourite and popular dessert. It is so delicious! I like the sweet potato more than the yam inside Boh Boh Cha Cha. How about you? Home cooked foods are simple most of the time but sometimes simple is just nice as the world is already too complicated... Simple is simply the best! [...]
Life Cafe - Brighton Square Kuching 2009-12-09T07:13:00.258+08:00 It is time for lunch and my wife's little brother shows us to a nice place for something hot and spicy. Not KFC of course but Life Cafe at Brighton Square Kuching. It is just a stone away from Premier 101 Commercial Area which I blogged on my last trip to Kuching. This Life Cafe is famous for its hot and spicy noodles. They offer 4 spicy levels for your preference of the noodles. Outlook of Life Cafe at Brighton Square Kuching This is the interior of the Life Cafe. Very cozy and simple. Sometimes simple is nice. I met my ex-colleague Danny from Kuching in this Life Cafe. This is his first time seeing my wife and he said in Hokkien "Si Gui, lu eh boh ah neh sui ah?". Haha. My wife was so happy to find out later on. I am so happy as well. :) The menu of Life Cafe. They do really put effort in designing the menu. This is the Lamb noodle that my sister's little brother ordered. He didn't order the spicy noodle and just normal not spicy noodle with lamb. He said the lamb taste great and so do the noodle. This is the Beef Noodle that I ordered. Look at the chunk of beef...so tempting. I wanted my noodle to be medium spicy. This is what I got. Looks normal but it is not. It is really spicy and tasty. The noodle is very smooth. This is the tender juicy beef! I am drooling already now looking back at the photo. The beef and the noodle are really delicious! I am all sweat after this spicy noodle. Sweat kept rushing out from my head and forehead. My wife can take very spicy foods. So she ordered level 3 spicy noodle. They called it "Ta Lak" (Very Spciy). The noodle is served with minced meat. Look at the colour of the noodle. It is actually nothing special and cannot find any trace of chili as well. But don't be too sure until you see the real deal. You need to dig further to find out the real gems. All the spices are under the noodle and at the bottom of the bowl. The colour of the noodle will become very red once you start to stir the noodle. You will find a lot of little pieces of dried chili inside the noodles as well. My wife said this noodle really suit her taste. Very spicy but yet amazingly delicious. Yummy yummy! We all had a nice and spicy lunch. The bill only around RM25. Cheap and nice. Highly recommended for those who like spicy noodles. We sure will go back there if we visit Kuching again! Thumbs up! Top 10 Food Court - Kuching 2009-12-05T16:28:50.846+08:00 Top 10 Food Court The second day in Kuching, we went to area around Jalan Song for breakfast. My daddy likes the fishball over there in one of the stall in Top 10 Food Court. The place is crowded when we reach there around 9 a.m. We managed to get a table for 5 of us. Time to order foods. I ordered Kuey Chap as Kuching Kuey Chap is famous.Wanted to eat it as long time didn't eat already. The pig spare parts (intestines) are nice and tender. Only the soup is a bit not tasty enough. If they can add more spices inside the soup, it will be great. But it is still better than what I get back in Sibu. Not easy to find a nice Kuey Chap in Sibu nowadays. Any recommendation? My sister ordered the Kolok Mee with pig liver soup. My sister said the Kolok Mee is not bad. The soup is better. They use minced meat for Kolok Mee and not grill meat like Kampua Mee. See the pig liver and the dark red colour cubes inside the soup? The pig liver is a bit over cooked and become a bit hard. But what is nice for the soup is that they put the pig's blood cubicals inside the soup. You like pig's blood jelly or not? My wife, sister, parent and I love it. Yummy yummy. You dare to eat this or not? Fear factors? Haha. This is the Fishball Vermicelli Soup that my daddy likes. The soup is tasty and the fishball is really soft and delicious. The size of the fishball is big and the fish meat is tender white. The fishball is handmade if I am not mistaken. For those who like fishball, can try it if you happen to be there. My mum opted for Char Kueh Teow. The taste is only average. Nothing to brag about. This is the O Jian (Fried Oyster Omelette) asian style that my daddy ordered for all of us in case we still hungry after our plate of noodles. My daddy like fried oyster omelette very much. This one over here cost us RM10 and the taste is not nice. Not many oysters are inside the omelette also. They give soy sauce with pepper as dip sauce for the omelette. A bit weird. Not worth the money. My daddy said he still think the fried oyster omelette in Penang is the best. He still missed the plate of fried oyster omelette that we had years ago in Penang. My wife had Kuching Laksa but the one in this Top 10 Food Court is not nice. So I just don't take the photo of it. Sibu laksa is far better than this. But Kuching do really had nice laksa which the colour of the soup is a bit dark in colour compare to those curry coloured type of laksa like this one. There are still many other stalls in this food court but we only had one stomach. Next time we will come back again. :) [...]
Barbecue AKA BBQ!~ 2009-12-02T20:03:50.431+08:00 On the road trip to Kuching, we reached Kuching in the afternoon and both of us are starving after the 6 hours drive. We headed straight to tHe Spring shopping mall for a quickie lunch as me and my wife also wanted to do some shopping. We wanted to eat something spicy and we headed to Kluang Station in tHe Spring shopping mall. We sat down at the far corner table and quickly ordered our foods. I ordered Roti with Curry Lamb+Lime Juice and my wife ordered Mee Siam Kluang and Coffee. This is the Mee Siam Kluang. My wife said it is not nice as the vermicelli is too dry and cold. I guess they cooked it sometime ago in big portion and served it in small portion when there is an order for Mee Siam. The sambal is not bad. It will be nice if the vermicelli is hot and not harden. My wife said the coffee in Kluang Station is nice. Can try the drinks next time but not the foods. The Roti with Curry Lamb that I ordered. At first I thought they will serve bread with the curry lamb as roti is bread in Malay. It turned out the roti is some sort like roti canai but it is crunch and not soft like roti canai. The curry lamb is not bad to go with the roti but only the curry lamb is cold as well. Minus point for this dish. The total bill comes out to RM20.90. Consider not cheap for this type of foods. We did some shopping in tHe Spring for the afternoon after lunch. We bought some shirts for the coming CNY. Got discount and worth the price. When we are about to go home after our hands fully of bags, my mum called. She asks me to get a present for my brother in law as that day is his birthday. She forgot to buy present for him. This made us like we are getting extension time to shop more as we are about to go back to my sister place for dinner. Haha. My brother in law is doing renovation works in Kuching and so I bought him a crystal tree which carries the meaning of good health and wealth. Do you believe crystal can brings good luck and have special power? Or do you carry any crystal with you? Oh, anyone want to renovate house in Kuching, I can give you the contact. Hehe. Free advertising for my brother in law. :P We had BBQ for the night. My sister prepared so many meats for the BBQ. High calories! Sausages, chicken wings, lamb slices, beef slices, pork slices, salad, vermicelli...etc. Burning hot and the smell are so great. Making my saliva flowing out of my mouth. Haha. I like the lamb, chicken wings and pork. The beef is cut into too thin slices and it become hard after barbecue. The fatty pork! Very juicy and crispy after barbecue it! Yummy! Brinjal for BBQ? I never try before and my brother in law's mother said it is nice. My brother in law's mother planted it herself. The shape short and fat but the purple colour is so vivid. I didn't try the BBQ brinjal and forgot to ask for comments. Maybe next time. The piece of art by my naughty wife. She cut the fishball into two and line it on the edge of the plate. She said it look nice. We had a great night and all bloated after the nice BBQ. [...]
Famous Jakar Prawn Noodles 2009-11-30T15:38:50.620+08:00 I just came back from a road trip to Kuching. A week of computer free days as I lived at my sister's house and she doesn't have an internet connection at home. So, I just give myself a break and no computer or go online for a week. Not bad as well to really relax and enjoy the holidays with my family. Me and my wife drove from Sibu to Kuching and my parent was out to Kuching earlier with my sister. Our mission is to fetch my parent from Kuching and back to Sibu while enjoying a few days holidays in Kuching and do some shopping with my wifey. We started at around 7.30 a.m from Sibu. This was a road trip that me and my wife been waiting for sometimes already. We decided to drive slowly and stop along the way to Kuching as we think it will be fun. We had fun taking shots along the way and sing songs inside the car. My wife like this song "Nobody by Wonder Girls" very much. It is sung by a group of Korean girls. You can listen to this song here. We kept on repeat this song and she kept doing the action of the Korean girls in their MTV. So funny. After an hour drive, we reached a small town named "Jakar". This town is famous for its big head prawn noodles. We planned to try it before we start the road trip. The name of the town "Jakar" is a bit funny and I wonder why people put the name of the town like this. In Malay, if you change the letter J to Z it will become penis in Malay. What very coincidence is they even place the symbol like the photo below at the entrance of the little town...LOL. Actually the symbol is pepper. If you know how pepper is planted, then you will understand it. Only the stick is a bit too big in the middle and too little leaves. :) We planned to go for the famous shop for prawn noodles but the shop is not open that morning. So, we had to settle for another shop called "Xiang Bin Cafe (Champagne Cafe?) . We wanted to have the big head prawn but they said don't have supply of the big head prawns today. Sigh... So I just ordered normal prawn noodle. While waiting for the noodle to come, I took a random picture. I like the one below and they really give you a lot of choices to choose for chopstick. There is another coffee shop side by side this coffee shop and there are a lot of people sitting around enjoying their morning tea. This is the RM8.00 ringgit white prawn noodle. My wife said the colour of the soup is a bit weird and too red. There are around 8 prawns inside this bowl of noodle. The taste of the noodle is just so so. Only the quantity of the prawn is not bad. Not what I expected and not really recommended. We made a few pee stops along the way and thanks to Petronas for the free service. This is the usual pee stop we made at Betong. Another pee stop in Sri Aman Petronas. We reached Kuching around 1 p.m and we headed to tHe Spring straight away. Will have more post on foods in Kuching soon. On our way back from Kuching to Sibu, we stop by Jakar town again. This time we got lucky as the famous shop is open for business. We went in for a light dinner. This is the Peking Restaurant and famous for its prawn noodles. Tata! See the different of the prawn noodle compare to the previous one? This is really delicious and spicy. My wife and my parent love it. The prawn is really big! This bowl cost us RM13.00. Not too expensive consider the amount of prawn you can find in the bowl. I opted for the fried noodle and it is not very nice. The amount of prawn is also very little but same price. Next time better order the soup one. Fried one not recommended. Prawn noodle, anyone? [...]
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head 2009-11-20T08:31:59.922+08:00 I woke up early this morning to send my wife to work as I am not working. Later of the day will need to pick her up after work. Now my current job is a full time driver and I enjoyed it very much. :) After sending my wife to work, I came home and changed into my jogging suit. It is really been a long long time I didn't do exercise in such an early morning. Maybe since my school days...Times really fly. I went to the park near my house to jog. The weather is still cooling at that time. Nice for a morning jog. One thing I found funny is that the people jog in the morning here are doing the laps in clockwise direction. I jog all the time in the afternoon and people are doing the laps in anti clockwise. At first I am not used to it as everything seems to be going in reverse direction. After two three laps, I kind of getting use to it. Maybe it is just like our life, sometimes we only see things in one direction and never try to see it from another direction. Do you drive a same path everyday and never try other path that will get you to the same destination? Maybe you will get surprises along the way. After I done my laps and cooling down myself, I need to cut it short as raindrops keep falling on my head~ I am humming BJ Thomas's oldies while I walk back to my house. Morning rains are always chilling and nice!
My Last Day! 2009-11-17T16:33:30.943+08:00 Today is my last day at my current company. Yes! I decided to make a change after thinking over and over again. I need to take a step further. If you read my previous post you will know that I went for interview in a company not long ago. At that time, I do not hope much from it. But who knows, they called me for a second interview after sometime. After the second interview, it is decision time and everything just happened so fast. The new company is very efficient and they process everything very fast which I really impressed. I got the letter from them after 3 days of the first interview.I have been working in the current company for great six years and it is my first job. I learned a lot and made a bunch of good friends working here. I do met a great mentor over here in this company. He taught me a lot and I really want to thank him for everything. If you ask me one thing that I will miss this company, it is the friends over here. I will be starting to work on Dec 09. The new job scope is nothing like what I did in the previous company. But I will try my best to work out the best! Next few weeks are my holidays! Yeah, I do really need a holiday before start work again!
Mitsu Shabu Shabu 2009-11-16T10:31:50.507+08:00 Last week went to Mitsu Shabu Shabu for dinner with my wife. This Mitsu Shabu Shabu last time is known as Mitsu Tea House (中华茶楼) located in Pedada behind Rejang Medical Center. I hope I didn't get the name wrong as this restaurant just changed the name of it and boss. We had a bad experience last time with Mitsu Tea House where the food is not fresh and taste lousy. Now they changed the boss and we have confidence for this new boss as this new boss is the famous Foochow Lane Shabu Shabu Japanese Hotpot boss. Me and my wife like the Shabu Shabu in Foochow Lane but the place is always crowded and parking is a pain in the ass in that vicinity. Now the new place in Pedada serves the same stuff. Parking and table is definitely more over there in the new place. Ok. Enough for the history. Let see what I ate that night. We opted for a lamb steamboat as this is our favourite. The serving time is ok and the steamboat ingredients are on the table after 7 minutes. This is the dip sauce for the steamboat. My wife like it very much and she always get two of this in a row. The thin slices of red yummy lamb. You just need to dip this into the steamboat for a minute and it will be cooked. The fresh red lamb will turn into grey meat after a minute in the hot pot. Dip it with the special sauce...yummy! The steamy hot pot boiling. Can't wait for it to boil quickly so that I can throw everything in quickly. We are drooling already while the soup in the pot is heating up. Everything is in! Haha! They specially divide the pot into two so that you can choose two type of soup for your steamboat. Nice. My side is with egg in the soup and my wife's hot pot is without egg. She doesn't like to put egg inside the soup but she like to put vinegar. She likes the soup to be a bit sour in that way. After 5 minutes, it is ready to eat. Look at the nice soup with all the vegetables, eggs, bean curd, lamb...etc, drooling? :P This is the pan fried dumpling that we will order everytime. We always order the Spinach flavour dumpling in the old Shabu Shabu but the new place seems to miss that in the menu. We opted for this one as above. It tastes very nice also. The filling inside of the dumpling. Tender minced meat and vegetable. Dip this with the vinegar and ginger will be best! Simply delicious. The total damage for the night with drinks is only RM24.70. Cheap? We will sure go back to that place again. [...]
MAS Corner Cafe's Laksa 2009-11-13T09:40:07.771+08:00 I went to MAS Corner Cafe in Kampung Nyabor a few times with my colleague and family for the laksa there. This coffee shop is located in town and at the corner lot of the shoplots where MAS office is located last time. I guess this is how they get the name. But it moved to Kampung Nyabor many years ago. Last time MAS Corner Cafe is famous with the fish noodles and fried yellow noodles. The stall moved to a new place and opened a coffee shop. From stall to coffee shop, I guess they really made money from the stall already. Now MAS corner is not so crowded as last time. It is really difficult to find a table in the coffee shop last time. You can get a table very easily now. Now I go to this coffee shop for the Halal laksa and kampua mee. If you don't know kampua mee, you can read my previous post on kampua mee here and here. This is the halal kampua mee topped with slices of chicken meat. The taste of the kampua mee is not bad. I like it as it is dry enough. This is the laksa which cost RM3.50. The taste of the laksa is nice. It is spicy enough for my taste. But for those who cannot take too spicy food, better stay away from this. The soup is really so laksa. Hehe. Not easy to get one with this type of taste already. Laksa, anyone?
L = 7 2009-11-11T11:55:59.521+08:00 I guess many must wonder what is L = 7? You will understand why my title post after you sees the photo below.Look at the car number plate of this kancil. It supposes to read QSL but instead of L, they use digit 7 upside down as L. I was like, do L equal to 7? Is it the mistake of the car accessories shop or the owner itself use the 7 to substitute the L? How much is an L letter cost you? Or they are environmentalist that likes to save and recycle things? Really funny when I saw this. At first I thought my eye sight is bad. But look clearly, it is really 7 upside down. Haha! Do you know that Sarawak's car plate number start with Q? Many of my friends in West Malaysia didn't know car number plate that start with Q is from Sarawak not until I tell them.
Dow Jumps To 13-Month High 2009-11-10T11:15:33.548+08:00 Dow Jones surges to 13 month high as the investor gained confidence on the recovery of the global economy. Dow closed at 10,226.94 points last night and manged to stay above 10,000 points for a few days already. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 also up around 2% on last night trading. I bet those who bought shares in U.S must be very happy seeing this. Many media reporting a very good sign of recovery on mainstream media and many investors gained more confidence when reading those news. People are starting to go back to stock markets around the world. Look at the trading volume of KLCI for the past few days, the volume is surging high. When you look deeper, only those second and third liner stocks are moving and not much of the blue chips are follow suit. I can smell heavy 'goreng smell' here. The only person who is making money is those who shouting for help last year. Yes, those from the finance sector. I bet their bonus for the year end will be as thick as the telephone book now. The stock markets around the world are pushed up by governments as the stimulus packages introduced. The governments around the world are flashing money into the market but how long can it last? Most of the money is not going to the fundamental of the economy and only goes to those rich fellows. If you ask around your friends doing business, I bet most of them will tell you that their business had dropped sharply. The government stimulus is not benefiting those small players but big players only. How long can the government give stimulus? The government is running dry as well by now. Or will Malaysia start printing money like U.S? But for me, I do really hope KLCI will reach 1,300 point very soon. Possible for KLCI to stand on 1,300 point before year end? I think it will and that will be very soon. Nice for people who do swing trades but not me. I will save my money for the worse to come. I think those aim for 5%-10% gains in short term is ready to shoot now. Do you think the economy will get better from now on? [...]
Creepy 2009-11-09T12:01:14.802+08:00 Last night when I reached home and wanted to open my gate, I couldn't find my key in the car. Luckily my parent is still awake and opened the gate for me. I thought I left the key in my house and didn't bring it out with me.My key I tried to search in the house and couldn't find where the key is. I searched the places where I usually put my key but still cannot find it. I told my parent that I lost my key. My mum quickly called my sister to check if she accidentally took my key back home or not. My sister calls back and said no after check through her belongings. I tried to search my car again with a torch light now while my parent continues in the house. I flipped all over my car and still cannot find it. I gave up already and want to declare I really lost my key. Then I heard my dad saying he found the key! What a relieve for me as losing the key is something not good as might need to change all the locks in the house. I walked back into the house and ask my dad where he finds the key? He said the key is on the sofa and slightly covered by the little MAS airline pillow. Don't ask how come a MAS airline pillow ended up in my house. *Eyes roll* My mum said she did search the sofa before that and didn't see the key is there. As I remember, I didn't take the key out of the car since morning. My parent or sister also didn't take my key either. My wifey is not with me yesterday also. How come the key will end up there at the sofa?? Creepy. Thinking of this and I can feel a cold rush up my spine... I really wonder...Do you have this kind of experience before when trying to look for something but cannot find and suddenly it appear out from nowhere?
Can I Choose? 2009-11-05T09:14:40.899+08:00 Did you experience before when you are in a hurry and want to switch off your laptop, you can't shut it down immediately? It is really very annoying. I experienced this few days ago. When I want to shutdown my laptop and go home, this nice Windows shutting down screen popped up...Do not turn off or unplug your computer, it will turn off automatically! It seems that Windows XP is upgrading and I will need to wait until the updates are installed completely before shutting down the laptop. Can Microsoft be a bit more considerate to the users to choose wants to install the update this time or next time or not? I am so mad and got nothing to do and need to sit there and wait for the updates to be installed. I am regretting to set Windows upgrade whenever Windows want it. If you just shut it down before the updates completely installed, you might get problem when you on your computer next time. So, I got no choice but to wait... The worst part that drove me crazy is that the screen shows installing update 1 of 19!~ OMG! Can you imagine that 1 of 19 when you are in a hurry to shutdown the computer? It takes me around 20 minutes to wait for the updates to be completely installed. Argh... Do you have any bad experience with Microsoft Windows before? |
