Vitamin C

2009-04-05T03:12:58.524-07:00

Probably the most talked about vitamin is Vitamin C. Most
people associate it with orange juice, assume that it will help
you stay healthier, and know little else about this famous and
fascinating vitamin.

The truth is that Vitamin C is necessary for all humans. Vital
in the production of collagen, it also helps protect other
fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids in the oxidation process.
It also has been used to treat iron deficiency and can present
and cure scurvy.

So what happens if you don't consume enough Vitamin C? In
extreme cases, it can cause the disease Scurvy. Rarely seen
today except in alcoholics who don't consume many other
calories, it causes mobile teeth, bleeding gums, purplish
colored wounds, joint pain, muscle deterioration, and a wealth
of other problems.

For those who think they may not be getting enough Vitamin C,
the good news is that it is readily available in the form of
many common foods. If you enjoy fruit, you can snack on a lime,
grapefruit, orange, or other citrus fruits. If you are in the
mood for veggies, a green pepper, potato, or tomato are among
those boasting lots of this important vitamin. Although a lot
of the nutrients of the vitamin are damaged during chopping or
cooking, the good news is that there is enough Vitamin C in
these foods so that you will still receive more than the daily
requirement which is about 60 to 90 milligrams a day.

There are cases when individuals should boost their Vitamin C
consumption. Pregnant women might want to opt for that extra
glass of orange juice instead of a soda. Smokers should also
double up on their Vitamin C since many of it is negated by
that damaging little habit.

If you are very picky about what you consume, you may want to
take a Vitamin C supplement as a part of your diet. Water
soluble, these can be found at any supermarket or pharmacy.
Fairly inexpensive, they are just as effective as the vitamins
you would obtain through natural food consumption.

Children Essential Nutrients

2009-03-23T07:04:42.394-07:00

Proper nutrition for a child is critical at an early age
Children are heavily dependent on the quality and quantity of nutrients available in their diets.  Children's diets today are often as severely limited in proper nutrients.   Even an overweight child can be lacking in proper nutrition.  It is imperative that children have a continuous source of  “micro-nutrients”.  The best sources of micro-nutrients come from fresh vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, whole grains, and legumes.
Essential nutrients are vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and amino acids ; a deficiency of these nutrients may cause much more health damage than adults would experience since adults are not utilizing these elements for growth and development.
FKC scientists’ solution to malnutrition in children is focused on replacing essential nutrients which are missing from their modern diet. The FKC scientists created a health supplement solution to help address this deficiency.
The first component in the solution is Kids-Vita and Kids-Vitamin, which was designed to provide a comprehensive array of the essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and phyto-nutrients necessary for normal growth.  Childhood is a critical stage where the entire span of a life time of health or illness can be affected, based on the nutrients in the diet.
The second component in the solution is CalciMagD, which helps in providing all the essential nutrients to build bone strong bones.
CalciMagD provides fundamental nutrients that are the very building block of bone tissue. These nutrients are commonly missing in children’s diets, but must be supplemented to protect from the diseases like rickets  in childhood and osteoporosis  in adulthood. Magnesium, the most powerful mineral in CalciMagD, not only promotes the deposit of calcium into bones, but also provides the massive energy needed to build the bone structures. This supplement is a carefully balanced ratio of molecules for optimal absorption and assimilation of calcium into bones.

Prenatal Vitamins

2009-02-19T11:02:46.546-08:00

Whether you're pregnant or just considering having a baby, you
probably have a dozen things on your mind. While images of a
blanket swaddled newborn might dance in your head, you're
probably considering other issues like bottle versus
breastfeeding, what type of maternity clothes to buy, and what
names you might choose for your little bundle of joy. If you've
visited your OBGYN for your prenatal appointment or simply to
discuss getting pregnant, your doctor has probably prescribed
prenatal vitamins.

Prenatal vitamins are by no means necessary for the health of
your newborn, but they can be a good safety measure to ensure
that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs during
this especially important time. If you're very health conscious
and eat the right foods, chances are that your body is getting
the nutrients it needs. However, during pregnancy many women
experience nausea and sickness or simply find they have
cravings for certain foods that may not be the healthiest
choices. A prenatal vitamin can fill in the gaps, making sure
your baby gets all the vitamins he or she needs to grow and
thrive.

Among the benefits of a prenatal vitamin is the fact that it
ensures your body gets an adequate amount of iron. Studies have
proven that most women don't consume enough iron during their
pregnancies. Iron deficiency can result in anemia, a condition
that can easily be avoided by taking a proper prenatal vitamin.

Another important component of prenatal vitamins is folic acid.
Important in pregnancy, folic acid has been found to reduce the
risk of birth defects. In fact, many doctors recommend that
women who are trying to conceive begin taking a folic acid
supplement or boosting their folic acid consumption at least
one month before trying to get pregnant.

Although prenatal vitamins are not a necessity, they certainly
contain many benefits. With one dose a day, you can rest
assured that your baby-to-be is receiving all the nutrients he
or she needs, keeping his or her development and growth right
on track so you increase your chances of having a healthy
newborn.

Supplimenting Our Health In The 21st Century

2009-02-19T10:59:41.523-08:00

Health and well-being supplements come in many guises and havebeen around a long time. Over the last 50 years tremendousstrides have been made in every aspect of the supplementindustry; marketing, packaging, production have all moved andevolved at a very fast rate. Our appetite for products has grownso much the financial experts predict that the wellness marketis going to be the next trillion dollar industry. The trend now is for products that incorporate health andwell-being with anti-aging components. We still want the healthand fitness thing, but people are now aware more than ever ofthe visible signs of aging. Modern technology encourages us toembrace the concept of physical longevity, even perfection andquestioning the moral and ethical issues surrounding thissubject won't change its public appeal. The demand for productsto help us achieve this will just increase, especially as webecome an aging society. We want to be fit, healthy, live longerand look good in today's society. This is not an unreasonabledesire and so we will go to great lengths to achieve it.Over the years we've seen a lot of changes to products, makingthem much easier for us to use and consume. Chelated tablets andsoft gel capsules for instance were a major breakthrough. At onetime tablets became overly large and seemed to get stuck in thethroat no matter how much water you drank. Tablets that could bechewed instead of swallowed were a big improvement, especiallyfor the junior market. As we move further into the 21st century technology will comeup with many new and exciting ways of balancing conventionalsupplements. New plants are being discovered all the time someof which have been used for centuries by people such as AmericanIndians or tribes living deep in the Amazon jungle. Some cultures in the Far East and Asia have long been aware ofthe health giving properties in plants and roots that werepreviously unknown to us. By drawing on this knowledge and usingmodern technology to harvest and reproduce these plants we willbe able to make them available to a wider population.Though supplements are consumed by swallowing, it is how thenutrients are delivered to the system that is important. Ifnutrients are consumed naturally then the body takes time todigest the food and release of the nutrients is slow. Withtablets the release of the nutrients is very fast, so the bodyis unable to absorb them before they are wasted. Gel capsuleshave improved on this by making the body dissolve the gel casingbefore the nutrients are released. Once the gel has dissolvedhowever, they are released just as quickly. Now a revolutionarymethod of delivery has hit the market and will change the faceof the wellness industry. The latest method is called "suspension gel technology". Thenutrients are suspended in gel packets very similar to theenergy gel pack that is used by athletes. Now you have a trueslow release system where the body can absorb a greater amountof the goodness we are trying to give it. This is a brilliantconcept, easy to use and ideally suited to life in the 21stcentury. The gel packs are small, can be transported easily andcan be taken anywhere at any time.A good example of one of these products is the exotic blend offruit from plant extracts. The gel pack contains a singlemeasure of blended rare and exotic fruits that act asantioxidants. These will help slow the aging process, helpmobility, co-ordination, memory, vision, skin and hair. So forprolonging healthy life these are a must.Taste is very important, so gel packs are designed to ticklethe taste buds with distinctive flavors. Just tear off the topand drink it down. It certainly beats standing in the bathroomwith a load of bottles and a glass of water.
