Criminally Overlooked: SAY WHAT NOW?

Wed, 15 Oct 2008 23:00:00 -0400

From the first day that I spent on Icomp I was drawn to the non-US artists. To hear ordinary people from around the globe create original music and to add their language to it just riveted me. There are many non-US artists that I love here but have enjoyed a lot of attention, so I'm focusing on those that could use a little spotlight.

Criminally Overlooked: Mikee's Musical Musings Vol 3 DNB edition

Fri, 25 Jul 2008 12:13:00 -0400

There is a plethora of musical style out there. Some obvious (Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, RnB, Classical) some obscure (Glitch, 8 Bit, Grind, Field Recording, Concrete Music). But its when these styles come together to form little hybrid freaks of sound, something beautiful and original is born. One (of millions) of these little "hybrid" genres is Jungle Music (or more commonly known as Drum and Bass Music) is what we will be focusing on in this issue of M3.

This week I discovered some great new artists. Well at least they're new to me. I'd like to start off this column mentioning them first.

Sat, 15 Mar 2008 00:15:00 -0400

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 21:22:00 -0500

Apple has released GarageBand 4.1.1, a blogger says that 2008 is the year for a GarageBand user to win a Grammy, and January 6th is iCompositions' 4th birthday.

Criminally Overlooked: Bringin' It All Back Home (to the Music)

Sun, 23 Dec 2007 23:40:00 -0500

So...one beautiful day, Julian asked if I could write something for the famous Criminally Overlooked pages. And, on that beautiful sunny day, I said "yes." And now here I am trying to figure out how to do it properly. The focus of these columns seems really important to me. Giving light to some gems that passed away too soon, too quickly...and some forgotten ones. There's a deep, cruel injustice going on with the amount of uploads everyday on Icomp...and that's one of the best ways (with browsing endlessly through the artists pages) to repair it, maybe.

Criminally Overlooked: Drums and Bass

Fri, 16 Nov 2007 23:16:00 -0500

It's all about the drums and bass this week! Sometimes the rhythm is everything! This week's selections are heavy on the bass and rhythms.

Criminally Overlooked: Global Music (Artists from Sweden and Indonesia)

Tue, 23 Oct 2007 16:25:00 -0400

It's been so long since I've written a column, and I have missed it. But you know, life is what it is and sometimes writing this column, which I love has to take a back seat to life's other priorities. What I do discover is that when I don't write or read the column as my guest contributors have done a most excellent job of sharing their music loves with you -- I really miss listening and writing. So this week I am keeping it short and sweet. Well maybe not too short (image) , but I am trying to focus on a few artists at a time and not to overload the reader and listener with too many as I have done in the past. But as you can tell from the length of this one, I have failed miserably! (image)

Criminally Overlooked: Nothing but the Blues

Sat, 29 Sep 2007 10:51:00 -0400

The blues is a form of expression that takes different shapes and forms but will always allow the artists to express their deepest feelings. It is music that comes from the heart and beyond.

Apple's Logic Series Gets Major Upgrade

Tue, 18 Sep 2007 18:49:00 -0400

Are you a GarageBand user thinking you might have reached the limits of that software? Are you ready to move on to the next level, but you've been worried about the learning curve? Perhaps the jump from free GarageBand to the pricy Logic just seemed too great? On September 12th, Apple provided the answer to all those dilemmas by releasing their latest digital audio workstation software: Logic Pro 8.

Criminally Overlooked: The Next Generation

Fri, 14 Sep 2007 12:01:00 -0400

In my exploring on iComp, I've run across some incredibly motivated and talented young artists. They are the next generation of writers, performers, producers, shakers and movers, Grammy winners, and your neighbor next door. Some of them aren't so overlooked, in any case, I want folks to know that these artists are teens and even younger.

Special Report: GarageBand Jam Pack: Voices Analysis

Sat, 11 Aug 2007 13:24:00 -0400

Though Steve Jobs neglected to mention the existence of a new Jam Pack at Apple's Special Event on Tuesday, the latest addition to the Jam Pack family made its way onto Apple's GarageBand information page with a few details. However, we feel that the information provided before purchase is incomplete so, as we have with past Jam Packs, iCompositions has purchased a copy of GarageBand Jam Pack: Voices and audited its loop and software instrument contents.
