Watch repair for ordinary mortals?

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 11:50:39 GMT

I'm looking to get a watch repaired. It's not an expensive watch, and I'm hoping the problem is relatively easy for someone who knows what they're doing, but I quite like the watch, so I would like to get it repaired rather than just replace it.

However, when I look into watch repair by simply googling, everything seems directed at very, very high-end watches. (For example, I believe my watch retailed for under $100 on Amazon when it was new, while the majority of the featured second-hand watches on the WatchFinder Eglinton site are $9,000 and up.)

Can someone recommend a place that's good for getting an ordinary, low-end watch repaired? Or am I wrong to feel intimidated bringing it to one of the high-end places that also do repairs?

My work commute corridor is from the Yonge/Finch area to the Yonge/Eglinton area and then east across Eglinton to the DVP, so a place along that route would be most convenient, although I can travel elsewhere if needed.

Thank you every one who helped me (finally) get the pic to show and then located a source for me.  I really appreciate the help.

Has anyone seen this print in or around any shops in Toronto?
I saw it in a hotel I was at and really liked it, I am hoping I can get a copy of it for myself.
Thank you.

Renting a car for a trip to Niagara Falls.

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 17:33:08 GMT

Hey all,

My partner and I are looking at taking an overnight trip to Niagara Falls in about two weeks' time. We're trying to decide on whether or not it would be better for us to rent a car for the drive out there, take the bus, or the train. Currently we're leaning towards renting a car, since my partner's sister-in-law is from Niagara and says that public transit there is pretty atrocious.

I'm of age to rent a car but have never done it before, and so am not sure what is entailed. (What little experience I do have is based out of the states, since that's where I'm from.) Can anyone give me some pointers? What are your experiences with car rentals in Toronto? Who did you use, and when did you pick up the car?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate the help!

p.s. I tried to use as many relevant tags as possible but could not see any for cars or car rentals.

Street Spammers (and Scammers)

Thu, 28 May 2015 17:50:44 GMT

Toronto, what's up with the Asian "monks" (I would say Buddhists but I somehow doubt this is the case) walking around the downtown core trying to get you to take some card from them. Is this an updated "scam" of the "deaf mute" who walks into restaurants while you're eating and tries to get you to take a card and you have to give them money for said card?

Toyota mechanic in west Etobicoke?

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 22:10:47 GMT

Any one know a good, trustworthy and affordable mechanic in west Etobicoke? I have a 2001 Corolla that needs some work done (the check engine light is on and I need it off to pass the drive clean) and I'm on a very limited budget so I was looking for some first hand experiences.

Thanks in advance!

Could you please recommend specialists in the city who can do door upholstery at homes?

How to find such specialists, where to look?
Are they the same people who do furniture upholstery?

Ultrasound prices?

Thu, 30 Oct 2014 18:10:45 GMT

My mom is a visitor in Canada (she doesn't have OHIP). She needs ultrasound of kidneys/bladder (abdominal/pelvic area).

I called three labs, they gave me quotes ranging from $266 to $717. Is that realistic in Toronto for a 10-minute procedure or do you know of a better price?

Thank you!

Need advice: find a English tutor with lower price?

I came from a Non-English speaking country, had been struggling with language barrier for years now, hard to get a good job if can't speak English well. I am looking for a native English speaker for my conversational tutor, I only can afford $20/H, but most of ads I saw online are $30+, school is not good for my schedule, someone told me, $20 is only students ,anyone knows?

WTF (that's Where To Find) : lighting stores

Sat, 18 Oct 2014 00:46:20 GMT

We're looking for lighting for our newly renovated kitchen. Any idea what stores have decent lighting (we've checked the big box stores already - Lowes/Home Despot/etc. - and we're looking for something more unique - prefer track style due to size of kitchen.

P.S. Bonus points if you can tell me how to get to the Docks via TTC

Deals on flight tickets when buying from a local travel agency?

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 00:20:41 GMT

Dear Torontonians,

I would like to ask you opinion about the possibilities of discount on flight tickets when buying the tickets from a local travel agency
(as opposed to buying it online directly from the airlines).

I need to purchase a flight ticket for my relative to travel to Israel and back.
Due to health limitations of the passenger it needs to be a business class ticket, so it's very expensive for me.
The most affordable round-trip tickets for business class in Air Canada and El Al's are CAD $4,180 - CAD $4,300.
Those are the prices indicated at the airlines' web-sites.

I wonder whether there is a possibility of a discount or some deal if I purchase the tickets from a travel agency.

I assume the travel agencies are getting commissions from the tickets they sell,
so they may be more flexible in offering/agreeing to some kind of discounts in order to attract clients to make relatively expensive purchases with them.

Is that assumption correct?

Do you have any additional information on that?

May be you could recommend a travel agent in Toronto whom I can contact for such purpose..

Thank you very much!
