at Google announced that they had acquired Zagat today!

"So, today, I'm thrilled that Google has acquired Zagat. Moving forward, Zagat will be a cornerstone of our local offering—delighting people with their impressive array of reviews, ratings and insights, while enabling people everywhere to find extraordinary (and ordinary) experiences around the corner and around the world.

With Zagat, we gain a world-class team that has more experience in consumer based-surveys, recommendations and reviews than anyone else in the industry. Founded by Tim and Nina Zagat more than 32 years ago, Zagat has established a trusted and well-loved brand the world over, operating in 13 categories and more than 100 cities. The Zagats have demonstrated their ability to innovate and to do so with tremendous insight. Their surveys may be one of the earliest forms of UGC (user-generated content)—gathering restaurant recommendations from friends, computing and distributing ratings before the Internet as we know it today even existed.

Their iconic pocket-sized guides with paragraphs summarizing and “snippeting” sentiment were “mobile” before “mobile” involved electronics. Today, Zagat provides people with a democratized, authentic and comprehensive view of where to eat, drink, stay, shop and play worldwide based on millions of reviews and ratings.

For all of these reasons, I'm incredibly excited to collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users, and to bring their innovation, trusted reputation and wealth of experience to our users."

Borges's 1929 book Cuaderno San Martín includes the poem "Isidoro Acevedo," commemorating his grandfather, Isidoro de Acevedo Laprida, a soldier of the Buenos Aires Army. A descendant of the Argentine lawyer and politician Francisco Narciso de Laprida, Acevedo fought in the battles of Cepeda in 1859, Pavón in 1861, and Los Corrales in 1880. Isidoro de Acevedo Laprida died of pulmonary congestion in the house where his grandson Jorge Luis Borges was born. Borges grew up hearing about the faded family glory. On the other side, Borges's father, Jorge Guillermo Borges Haslam, was part Spanish, part Portuguese, and half English, also the son of a colonel. Borges Haslam, whose mother was English, grew up speaking English at home, and took his own family frequently to Europe. England and English pervaded the family home. Google Sitelinks Update - New Google Interface for WebSite Sitelinks at Google

2011-08-17T16:00:42.133+05:30

It's morning and I guess not many of power Google user's has noticed that Google rolled out a new Sitelink features which I just now observed. Also I am not sure does it being rolled out to all Google data-center's or as always Google trying out at few and later make it universal. To confirm this new Google Sitelink's feature I checked with Official Google Blog & Official Google Webmaster Central Blog, but there's no news yet in this regard. (Update 0n 08/16/2011: Official Google Blog: The evolution of sitelinks: expanded and improved) Espn.com - Google Sitelinks Well you must have noticed earlier for Sitelinks Google only show's few important internal webpages (also known as Sitelinks) at organic SERP's if a user search for any Domain at Google(www.afzalkhan.org) name with or without domain extension (Afzalkhan.org or Simply Domain Name as AfzalKhan) as shown at image-1(Espn.com Google Sitelinks) with Old Sitelinks pattern. What's New now with Google Sitelinks Google is now showing website's sitelinks with Title (H1 tag in some cases), meta description and the landing page URL as shown in image-2 (Afzalkhan.org Google Sitelinks) which were missing at the old sitelinks preview (Google used to show only Anchor Text hyperlinked) Afzalkhan.org Google sitelinks - New Preview What will its affect on Organic Traffic? - While it's still early to judge its impact but I noticed significant increase in Google traffic for my site since yesterday, the increase in Google Organic traffic is almost 20-30% comparing my daily blog traffic. It's a welcome change from my site being a SEO along with many other changes due from Google including infinite scrolling at SERP's for organic searches too like Google Image Searches. I've read on many forum's Google is experimenting & testing out loads of new feature's since after launching Google +1 which they will merge all together to offer a better user experience. Finger's crossed expecting few more changes in next coming days which might affect Search Engine Optimization strategies, website organic rankings & traffic. Yahoo's AlltheWeb.com is Shutting Down on April 4, 2011

2011-04-01T02:18:03.881+05:30

(image)
(image)

End of AlltheWeb.com Era - Another Search Engine going to be DEAD soon!

When AlltheWeb started in 1999, Fast Search and Transfer aimed to provide their database to other search engines, copying the successful case of Inktomi. Indeed, in January 2000, Lycos used their results in the Lycos PRO search. By that time, the AlltheWeb database had grown from 80 million URIs to 200 million. Their aim was to index all the publicly-accessible web. Their crawler indexed over 2 billion pages by June 2002 and started a fresh round of the Search Engine Size War and had given a good run to GOOGLE.

In February 2003 Fast's web search division was bought by Overture.  In March 2004 Overture itself was taken over by Yahoo!. Shortly after Yahoo!'s acquisition, the AlltheWeb site started using Yahoo!'s database and some of the advanced functions were removed, such as FTP search and direct image search.

In March 2011, Yahoo! stated on the AlltheWeb website that they intend to close the engine. It's sad to see Alltheweb.com to be a history!

Below is Statement displayed over Alltheweb.com stating Yahoo! will be closing it, & it will take user to Yahoo Home Page

"Yahoo! will be closing AlltheWeb on April 4, 2011, as we focus on other features to improve your search experience. Starting on April 4, 2011, http://www.alltheweb.com will redirect to Yahoo! Search at http://search.yahoo.com. Thanks for your understanding."

Apple iPad is now officially available in India

2011-01-28T21:29:51.076+05:30

Good news to all iPad lover's in INDIA, Apple today has finally announced they started selling "iPad" to indian market.  Apple will make the iPad available through its Apple Retail Store's in India, with 3G services from BSNL. On Thursday BSNL has announced attractive data plans for Apple 3G iPad, BSNL is the first among other 3G service provider in India to have a deal with Apple. BSNL is offering both prepaid and postpaid plans for iPad owners in India. Unlimited 3G usage costs Rs 999 per month in both prepaid and postpaid. Check out BSNL's official site for Apple iPad 3G data plans in India. Below is cost of different storage capacity iPad in India, You can get more detail's at Apple Store in India. iPad with Wi-Fi 13-inch | 15-inch | 17-inch Connect to the Internet wherever you can access a Wi-Fi hotspot. 16GB1 Rs. 27,900* 32GB1 Rs. 32,900* 64GB1 Rs. 37,900* iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G Connect to the Internet at Wi-Fi hotspots and over 3G networks when you’re on the go; 3G service sold separately. 16GB1 Rs. 34,900* 32GB1 Rs. 39,900* 64GB1 Rs. 44,900* Apple iPad price is somewhat higher in India comparing to iPad price in US & UK.  However for iPad lover like me who haven't waited long and ordered for the Apple iPad after it's launch in USA. I ordered for my iPad (64 GB, 3G + Wi-Fi) on 20th August, 2010 last year and then shipped it to India which cost me somewhat higher at price to now available iPad price in INDIA. Along with Apple iPad I ordered for accessories including Apple iPad Case, iPad Keyboard Dock, Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit, iPad 10W USB Power Adapter & iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter. Except Apple iPad case all other accessories are not of much use, especially the "iPad Keyboard Dock" it looks awesome, but believe me it's not of use at all. The in-built keyboard functionality in iPad is sufficient enough, you'll never feel necessity of attaching it to the external iPad Keyboard Dock...Rest all accessories depends on your use, better my suggestion would be first to get your iPad in hand use it for few months and order accessories later as per requirement:-) I am using BSNL 3G normal SIM which I  converted into Micro SIM to be used with iPad. It's very easy to convert your normal SIM card to fit into iPad micro SIM card in-built slot. There's dozen of videos available at Youtube or you can watch this one Video. Before cutting your SIM as Micro-SIM, don't forget to activate your SIM and use "BSNLNET" as the data provider in your iPad Settings to work with 3G. More details on how to activate your BSNL 3G SIM can be found here. Alternatively you can also order for Noosy Micro SIM cutter with SIM adapters which is available for Rs 500/- only at Ebay.com & Amazon.com My Apple iPad picture's I love playing with my iPad and can say it's kind of gadget whom you easily get into love play, work most of hour's with it. iPad is fantastic! So when you planning to bring iPad your home, share your thoughts?[...]
